Play it like an exploration game instead of just doing heart quests. If you are running from heart to heart simply doing that for experience you are willfully removing so much freedom given to you. During the first 2 betas I went exploring, found secret areas underwater. Found a crazy jumping puzzle cave. With added vistas I feel like I'm halfway playing assassins creed in all of the city areas. (be sure to save all the materials for armor crafting or something, leveling up your crafting gives mad exp bosts so you will always be over leveled in the current area instead of being forced to turn back because of harder mobs). Well that's just it, I don't feel I actually have any freedom. I've never encountered any more linear MMO, and "hearting" seems to be the way everyone plays, so I don't think it's the wrong way? Ummm hmmmm okay. Crafting seems an okay idea but I'm just gathering materials, I don't actually know how to level the actual crafting. ![]() I don't why you mention vistas, though. They seem completely useless. You don't even get vision from them.

No sense of adventure? I think you don't quite grasp the meaning of those words. If you don't like it that's fine. Doesn't mean not great and enjoyable for most. Because it's the only way to get experience, unless crafting works like the other guy mentioned. Doing hearts and events is literally about standing in one place and pressing 1 and maybe a few other keys if you feel like it. Well, they might be hard to define but with exploration I mean actually going places you aren't "supposed" to be and discovering huge monsters, secret places (cities, graveyards, dungeons, whatever), and you can actually accomplish something there if you are careful. With adventure I mean you might sometimes run into an ACTUAL event that actually has some meaning to the world or to you and others. The events they have come along every 4 or 5 seconds or so, and in the same spots, and with the same crappy rewards, and with the same consequences (none).

The events they have come along every 4 or 5 seconds or so, and in the same spots, and with the same crappy rewards, and with the same consequences (none). Crafting, gathering, exploring all give experience. Hearts are possibly done by standing in one place and autoattacking everything, but dynamic events definitely aren't. In the sylvari starting area there is a jumping game where at the very top you find a several chests with good loot covered with mobs that are much higher level than the area. If you follow this path you will go through several areas before coming out in the open in another zone. And as I posted in the previous page: There are some dynamic events marked as 'group' but the grand majority are completable solo. Groups are automatically grouped together, not by instancing though. I think it just looks at the number of players in a given area. They aren't phased, they don't exactly reset, the events just happen 'again' or follow a chain. For example, imaging enemies attack your home base and try to steal all your wares. If you defend successfully, the base continues operating as per normal and they will attack again in X minutes. If you fail, you are no longer able to purchase items from that base, but the captain of the base may announce a counterattack on the enemy base where you go to retrieve your wares. If you do that successfully, the base returns to normal operations.

I just run around killing stuff and clicking on glittering things, my bar fills up and woopdidoo, another heart completed without having even seen the freaking NPC that wanted help. Dynamics events get way more different further in the game. The last zone has no hearts and only dynamics. During one of the weekends, we'd be losing towns because some people didn't manage to defend it against centaurs.

You can say what you want about Runescape but the one thing it does amazingly well is quests. My god, quests in Runescape are on an entirely different level than the quests in all these supposed to be triple-A MMO's.

I think the only way this becomes an esport is if they create a good spectator platform. One of the main reasons why games like SC2 and DotA are such good esports is because of how great the spectating is and how easy it is to show what's going on.
