Is anyone having actual fun playing this game? I *hate* questing, and even though it looks like this game has no quests, it's all it has. At least in regular MMOs you get to see different areas in your quests, while in this game you stand in the same spot grinding, then you move to the next fucking heart and grind there. There's no exploration, no sense of adventure. Events happen ALL the time. Shouldn't you feel excited when an event happens instead of just hating it? They're all the same too.

I should say that I'm very bored of MMOs in general, as I never manage to get myself immersed in them. I just feel like a character running around with the same skills as in every other game, for absolutely no reason but to grind. I was expecting at least SOMETHING different this time around.

You are playing it wrong. You've got five starting areas to explore. Ingredients to collect and craft. Cities to explore. Plenty of vistas everywhere. Play it like an exploration game instead of just doing heart quests.

If you are running from heart to heart simply doing that for experience you are willfully removing so much freedom given to you.

During the first 2 betas I went exploring, found secret areas underwater. Found a crazy jumping puzzle cave. With added vistas I feel like I'm halfway playing assassins creed in all of the city areas.

(be sure to save all the materials for armor crafting or something, leveling up your crafting gives mad exp bosts so you will always be over leveled in the current area instead of being forced to turn back because of harder mobs).

Well that's just it, I don't feel I actually have any freedom. I've never encountered any more linear MMO, and "hearting" seems to be the way everyone plays, so I don't think it's the wrong way?

Ummm hmmmm okay. Crafting seems an okay idea but I'm just gathering materials, I don't actually know how to level the actual crafting. I'll check it out before giving up on this game. Thanks.

I don't why you mention vistas, though. They seem completely useless. You don't even get vision from them.

Stand in the same spot grinding? You're doing it wrong, lmao. And I dunno why you feel compelled to complete hearts, you don't have to...

No exploration? No sense of adventure? I think you don't quite grasp the meaning of those words.

If you don't like it that's fine. Doesn't mean not great and enjoyable for most.

Because it's the only way to get experience, unless crafting works like the other guy mentioned. Doing hearts and events is literally about standing in one place and pressing 1 and maybe a few other keys if you feel like it.

Well, they might be hard to define but with exploration I mean actually going places you aren't "supposed" to be and discovering huge monsters, secret places (cities, graveyards, dungeons, whatever), and you can actually accomplish something there if you are careful.

With adventure I mean you might sometimes run into an ACTUAL event that actually has some meaning to the world or to you and others. The events they have come along every 4 or 5 seconds or so, and in the same spots, and with the same crappy rewards, and with the same consequences (none).

Crafting, gathering, exploring all give experience. Hearts are possibly done by standing in one place and autoattacking everything, but dynamic events definitely aren't.

In the sylvari starting area there is a jumping game where at the very top you find a several chests with good loot covered with mobs that are much higher level than the area. If you follow this path you will go through several areas before coming out in the open in another zone.

And as I posted in the previous page:
There are some dynamic events marked as 'group' but the grand majority are completable solo. Groups are automatically grouped together, not by instancing though. I think it just looks at the number of players in a given area. They aren't phased, they don't exactly reset, the events just happen 'again' or follow a chain. For example, imaging enemies attack your home base and try to steal all your wares. If you defend successfully, the base continues operating as per normal and they will attack again in X minutes. If you fail, you are no longer able to purchase items from that base, but the captain of the base may announce a counterattack on the enemy base where you go to retrieve your wares. If you do that successfully, the base returns to normal operations.

What I miss is interaction with NPC's. I just run around killing stuff and clicking on glittering things, my bar fills up and woopdidoo, another heart completed without having even seen the freaking NPC that wanted help.

You can always run to them and talk to them for a bit of story about the area.

Just finding all of the way points will level you up quite a bit. Vistas give experience as well. Try out WvWvW. Guess what, it also gives you experience.
Dynamics events get way more different further in the game. The last zone has no hearts and only dynamics. During one of the weekends, we'd be losing towns because some people didn't manage to defend it against centaurs.

A reminder: The heart NPC's sell you items that are appropriate for the level, like a new pair of boots or a weapon. You buy them using the karma that you acquire from the hearts

Are there going to be different heart quests than kill mobs and gather things at higher levels?

You can say what you want about Runescape but the one thing it does amazingly well is quests. My god, quests in Runescape are on an entirely different level than the quests in all these supposed to be triple-A MMO's.

Higher level areas have fewer hearts and more dynamic events.

O god the frikin pirate cave jump quest on the bottom of the Lions Arch map was SO FUN! You guys should all try it if you haven't. Directions: The bottom View Point of the map is the location where you start it. It might be a little hard to find at first but it is worth it.

They said they would like the game to be an esport. IMO the game won't be much fun to watch, but who knows.

I personally have been having some fun with Elementalist with scepter main hand, focus off hand. Just stick in air and earth elements and you have a blind in each and a way to stop missile attacks in each. The damage isn't amazing but it's enough to outdamage a profession's heal CD and you should never even come close to dying with the right utilities. (Also earth focus has the 5 second invuln ability, that + mistform gives you crazy amounts of invuln).

I think the only way this becomes an esport is if they create a good spectator platform. One of the main reasons why games like SC2 and DotA are such good esports is because of how great the spectating is and how easy it is to show what's going on.

Problem is that you really need to get to 20+ or so to experience the class. Before 20 you can just autoattack and faceroll your way through everything.
