About a week ago I didnt even know it was coming at 28-08, but think im gonna pick it up on tuesday. Got 2 more questions tho.
Read some stuff from 1month+ back where that if youre dead, youre not really dead, you have to be finished off by a 5 second cast ability, making it impossible to 1v2 people? Also, no DR on CC?
Thinking of going with a human necromancer. Can anyone give some advice on playing male or female animation wise? Like when I played WoW, when you played a human rogue, you had to pick a female because their animations were just way way way cooler.
edit: And whats your ping on US servers like when playing from EU?

Yes, you go into a downed state where you have to be finished off but you can still take regular damage and be killed normally, it's just the animation instant kills you. Yes, it completely stops the notion of 1v2ing or 1v3ing and it's very, very annoying and I hope ArenaNet removes it in sPvP and especially WvWvW. I dunno about animations, I think they're actually pretty much the same.
Also, people feeling underleveled are 100% not doing it right. I'm mixing in exploring, personal story and events and I'm overleveled as hell. I can only imagine if I was doing professions too.

God DAMN that fucking Frozen Maw event chain for Norns was fucking astounding. It felt like something I would do in a WoW raid instance or something at level 11. I'm fucking loving this game, think I'm definitely set on norn after like 20 characters.

I just said fuck it and went to different areas to quest. I do pvping on the side as well, but I'm not too much in the mood for exploring until I hit 80 =P. The personal story is very nice however.

Thinking of picking this game up today after hearing everyone say good things about it..quick question. Are the professions similair to guild wars 1 ? For instance I played a mesmer in gw1 for a while, is the class very much similair in gw2 to that of gw1?
Would love to hear from some of the people already playing the Mesmer class

This game is pretty damn nice. And I had severe doubts.

I like how this game flows. You get to just wander around, gathering stuff you find, then join in an event passing by. And if you get tired of a certain area you can just go to another factions place. This game does exploring right.
I'm lvl 15 and I've only seen one huge boss yet, don't know if that's unlucky or typical. Was a huge shade in the swamp that would summon portals that would summon a bunch of demons.

There are only slight similarities and especially the Mesmer is barely recognizable anymore.

I never played gw but I picked up gw2 with some friends. I am really enjoying it up until now. The only things that bugs me a little bit is that there is no secondary ressource system for your skills. Only cooldowns and sometimes the normal attack seems to do just as much damage as the cooldown skills :/
The other thing that is strange is that monsters give like zero exp. Cutting down a single tree gives you as much exp as killing 3 monsters and you can get even more exp if you craft something out of the wood(like 140 exp per tree). A single piece of bronze amor gave me like 600 exp while monsters give 10-20.
Well none the less thoose things are kinda different to other mmorpgs i guess but not neccessarily bad. It´s just that I normally always killed some mobs while I quested and now I don´t really see the need to do it unless you know it has interessting loot.
The positive things are:
Giant Open World with landmarks etc.
Awesome random events
Nice personal story

I really, really like the leveling, exploration and crafting in this game, but the combat system is extremely weird.
It feels like it's a mix of TERA+WoW. For example, if I'm in range of a mob attack when the animation starts, run out of range of the animation and the attack looks like it completely misses me -> it still hits me. Just like WoW. The dodge button functions more as a 'negate attack' button than an actual dodge. In TERA I could truly avoid mob attacks instead. I hope someone gets what I'm saying ^^
I also have doubts about endgame content. There are only 8 dungeons in the entire game? No raids, no 'heroic' dungeons, no nothing at max level? A MMO cannot survive purely on exploration content... and PvP won't hold in the masses (PvP isn't really fun as well with the abovementioned combat system).

Is it really any different than other MMO's or is it still the normal quest grind? I have real trouble staying interested in MMO's without a decent storyline/things to do other than kill x mobs.
Kind of on the fence about buying considering ive been burned by almost every MMO release recently.

You know, you could read up a little bit before posting stuff like this. Everyone knows there aren't quests per-se, the only thing remotely quest-like is your personal storyline, which is where you get the story as well.
You don't do quests, you join in random events that you find happening for lots of xp, or you explore/gather/craft/pvp/whatever you want to level.
