The Mesmer clones and phantasms cannot be directly controlled. They only attack the target you were targeting when you summoned them using preset behavior depending on the specific spell that summoned it, and die when it dies (if not before). I didn't have a chance to test Ranger or Necro this past BWE, but from what I've read on the beta forums, there have been some issues with the pets. I imagine a lot of those issues will get ironed out through future tests, though.

Ranger pets worked mostly fine so long as you didn't expect them to be like WoW pets where they just tank for you or sit there and soak damage. You really had to manage them and what not. There were some AI issues though with attacking things.
As for how they work you have f1 to send them after a target, f2 to use their ability, f3 to toggle them from passive to guard (going from active -> passive would draw them back to you), then f4 to switch pets.
Switching pets was really important as pets come out at full health and the cooldown is short if you don't let them die. So you spent a lot of time swapping the pets around to keep one up and in good health.
Their special abilities tend to be quite good, at least for some pets. Plenty of disables and what not that were good to have. Damage wise certain pets with certain skills could do quite a fair bit.

Having never played Guild Wars 1 before, I am just too excited for Guild Wars 2. I can't wait ! ^^
|
I just pre-purchased the game today. I will admit, I'm very excited. This will be the first Guild Wars game I've played, but I can already tell it's going to be really fun. Hopefully there will be another beta soon so I can get the feel of the game before actually playing it.

Does anyone know how guilds work in terms of servers? Over the BWE I was surprised to find the guild name I wanted taken, it was a name common enough where I didn't necessarily expect it to be unique, but it was still surprising that on one of the lower population servers it was taken within the first day. My initial thought was that guild names are unique across servers (which makes sense if you can hop around servers as a visitor), but I can't find any info confirming that.

I blogged about my adventures with TL right here in the blog section for anyone who cares to read a subjective view rather than try to process all the raw info from streams, videos etc.
Here's another screenshot.

Plenty of disables and what not that were good to have. Damage wise certain pets with certain skills could do quite a fair bit. Anet said recently that they thought they had pet AI figured out coming into this beta but more problems arrived. Jon Peter's said it was issue #1 going into next beta since it affecting 3/8 classes is a very large deal.
Masmer's were the best off as most of their "pets" worked effectively while they were alive.
Ranger's were worst off in my opinion, the pets would randomly just stop in place sometimes, random disappears around corners, and a few other issues. My solution was to have two of the same pets so everytime I got out of combat I would just switch pets to reset it and it would be full hp and would be ready for my f2.
I only do sPvP so I won't comment on MM Necro's but they had a few issues I know most people just avoided playing a spec like that in PvP since it's not very strong.

Does anyone know how the game experience is near the minimum posted system requirements? I'm trying to decide whether to order or not.
I have a laptop with a core 2 duo 2.0 ghz (same as the min requirement) 4 GB ram (better than the min which is 2GB). GeForce 8600 GT (slightly newer than the min, same 256 MB video RAM)

I wouldn't preorder but hopefully they'll release a demo or something that you can experiment with.

It will not run on that machine. At least not in an enjoyable way. That is if they will not improve the engine until release.
I run on a slightly better CPU E6300@3,2ghz and a Geforce 560 TI and it was not really enjoyable.

Then again remember everyone has only experienced the beta, which has not been optimised at all. It may have been optimised well enough by release that your computer can run it well.

I have maybe a slightly better laptop with 1GB less RAM (2.3GHz, 3GB, HD5470 with 512MB; but I had GF 8600GT before and I believe it has this extension with physical memory to 512MB,no?) and the experience was good. You just have to avoid the overcrowded places. In huge WvWvW battles it will be a photo-fest. Many people around here consider anything less than 80fps as a 'non enjoyable experience'. So yeah, I guess the decision is still on your shoulders

I tried running the beta bootcamped on a core 2 duo 2.5ghz, 4gb of ram and a GT 8600 (laptop version) and it was not playable. I think even the character creation was a total mess.

I wouldn't dare even try WvWvW zergs with that rig.

Hey guys I am a complete noob and am playing guild wars again (played it when it started on-and-off for a few months), is there anyone here that plays or a Guild Wars 1 guild I can join just to have some fun in this game???

So, what about this laptop for running the game?
I5-2520M @ 2.50Ghz 4GB Ram GT520M
Will it run ok? :| Like, 30 FPS or so? Im god awful with laptops kekeke, all i know is my super computer will run it :p
Surely there will be optimisations and config tweaks to improve performance too?
I just ask as my wife wants it on her laptop

It is really system dependend at the moment. Some poeple with way better system than I have dropped under 10 fps in towns. I got an i5 2500k (4x 3,4 ghz) and a gtx 560ti 448 and the game rolled fluently on highest settings without any fps drops (except short after loading new areas after running through a portal). They will optimize that, because a lot of poeple had the problem, that only one core of the cpu was used while the game was running mainly on the cpu instead of the gpu.

hey guys i got 2 questions:
1) when will the next beta event be? this weekend? any weekend? browsing through the gw2 official site i get the idea there will only be like 1 beta event before release, but i have heard rumours that release will be close to october or such. i am going to the army on november so i wanna find out if it is worth it pre-purchasing for the beta weekends alone and the little playtime i will get till i leave.
2) i have a 4y old rig. q9550 3ghz and gtx280.1gb with 4gb ddr3. the gpu has been a bit buggy for the past 3 months or so although generally i can run any game i throw at it (computer was build to run crysis1 at max settings so it is well built). is this game cpu or gpu intensive? because if it causes my gpu to reach ~100 C i might have problems playing it and need replacing. for example i played diablo beta at max settings, tera open beta at high settings and sc2,skyrim,swtor on high with no problem (although swtor shadows needed adjusting in instances with a lot of players on screen)
i dont really wanna upgrade right now, rather wait after i am done with the army (summer-fall 2013) to build a brand new rig. so i am wondering if the game stresses gpu's a lot.
