Yes, since criticizing a game makes you instantly an animal
I got banned on their forums for saying the following in the "How did you like Dragon Age 2" Thread:
"I am not too fond of this game. It's still a solid 6/10 for me, and I did enjoy it. However, it's not the Dragon Age I remember and probably will not be getting multiple play throughs of it like I did DA:O. However, still a decent game."
Spam. End of the Line. 3 day ban.
So we must praise the changes we, the gamers, dislike, to avoid hurting the feelings of those who worked on the game? Are you on crack? It is perfectly fine to express your own opinion on the game, positive or not, as it is you who bought the game in the first place. The game is nothing but a product and you are free to evaluate it all you wish and in any manner you want - you are the customer! If some people are outraged at the direction in which DA is going than let them speak their mind and maybe the developer won't repeat the same mistakes. Really, how is feedback ever bad?
I'm nearing the end of DA2, it's decent, but fell short of expectations. In my opinion, it is not even close to being the best game of the year (and it's march). Once I'm done I'll write my thoughts down.
I'm not going to let this post fall behind on the last page. Excellent post, sums up my feelings perfectly. I can understand, even slightly, if they were doing this to hardcore trolls or something. But no, this is ANYONE who disagrees with how they made DA:2. It may not be Bioware mods, but there is definitely a Bioware Defense Force on that forums that is a few hundred strong that reports any bad post ever and gets the thread locked and the person banned.

Original article from IGN: http://uk.music.ign.com/articles/115/1154594p1.html
IGN: After the game is finished, do you go back through a play it again with all of the music in place?
Zur: Sure thing. I'm actually really anxious for the game right now, so I can pop it in and start playing. I'm really looking forward to see it. I know there are a few bugs that still need to be fixed. Unlike other titles from Bioware, this [score] was kind of a rush job. EA really wanted to capitalize on the success of Origins, so the game was really being pushed hard to be released now. So I'd like to know if there are bugs, or if there's anything we could patch or fix. [Editor's note: Zur is speaking about bugs in the score only; he had no involvement with the rest of the game's development.]

In my opinion, it's a mediocre console game. It just hurts to play this 3 options dialog rubbish on a pc. Fighting is fun for the first 15 minutes, not much tactic involved, even on hardmode. Graphics are worse than its predecessor! They will make good money of it, thats for sure, because like pop-music, trash sells. They sure did a great job designing a rpg with less freedom than a formula 1 racing game.
|
Well, I'm pretty disappointed. They took the things I hated most about da:o and made them even worse. Next rpg I play will be one that is NOT released for console simultaneously because that seems to fuck up most things (
I'm sure I'll actually finish it, but I certainly will never replay it. Probably won't bother with an expansion either.
Also I'd love a rpg without spiders. I fucking hate spiders. ONE TIME. Hehe.

So many people here praising Origins into the sky I went on youtube to see some gameplay footage and OMG. The Berserker speed in Origins is literally 1/3 speed of DA2 version :S. I was considering giving it a shot but that right there kills the game for me after playing DA2 first. Its just too painful to watch. I can understand that If you someone played Origins for a long time then switching to DA2, the gameplay speed might be an issue.

And way to brush off the bad reviews with the it must have been emotional backlash because it wasnt like the first one argument. Theres no way people dislike this game for legitimate reasons. I also have to say the re use of levels wasnt a risk, it was dumb and lazy. That alone will kill most rpg's (or any kind of game for that matter) but since this is a sequel to a good game some overlook this huge blunder. And once again I will never understand the logic behind the argument that people shouldn't expect a sequel to be simillar to the original, it just doesnt make sense to me.

Yes, you dont jump from enemy to enemy like you are hyped up on caffeine. DA:O had this undertone of realism behind everything you did. You weren't flying around like a retard, the bigger the weapon the longer it took to fire, mages weren't fucking spinning around shooting flames out of every orifice and it took tactics. Not to say DA2 doesn't take tactics on Nightmare.
DA:O is a slower game, this isn't news. DA:O focuses more on story, character progression, and tactics while DA:2 focuses on high speed action combat. Both are fine and dandy, I just prefer the former.

interview kinda saddening.
apparently they dont even realize what the peoples problem is,dont plan to ever make a good game again and cant understand that a game they admit to be rushed and dumbed down doesnt get high scores.
they should just make dragon age their console "look kids! flashy fires and you can sekz dat elf!" game and do a new franchise that really goes back to the roots. and yes i know this will never happen...
so many people here praising Origins into the sky
i never did that. think on some of the early pages there is still a rant from me how underwhelmed i was by origins. but that was my and their fault for bringing up BG.
but origins still was a decent game and one of the better ones in recent times , for me it just never deserved the hype.
but DA2 is a slap in the face and evryone who likes RPGs should rather replay any BG/NWN game ,play drakensang or whatever.
dunno if anyone remembers the weird diablo like baldurs gate spinoffs on the ps2. guess thats what they ment with "we wanna make dragon age in the spirit of baldurs gate"

The dialogue is kinda stiff and poorly written, there is no nice talk around the issue, it is just straight to the point with short sentences and Hawke(male) seems to be talking really loudly at all times which kinda makes me facepalm. On top of that the voice acting isnt close to DA:O.
One of the reasons this fails on the story telling plane imo is you are just thrown into everything as a guy, you dont identify with the character as much as in DA:O. I wont complain on the graphics since that is never the biggest issue with a game if its a good game, but the game is very, very repetitive. I am halfway in and theres no identifyable characters introduced, just nameless Raiders and Qunary for me to kill.
To top it off my beloved nightmare mode is indeed very hard, but its made hard through stupid methods. I dont enjoy getting all my characters but my tank stunlocked by a normal trash mob if it isnt tanked. My level 9 rogue cant kill any mob that isnt tanked since he just gets interrupted forever and then dies, same for the supporting mage and archer, thats just dumb. On top of that mage support spells like crowd control have insanely long cooldowns and last for like a few seconds so it feels as if the tactical side is just gone and its down to just pumping out tons of damage before the mobs kill you rather then controlling them and killing them like you coould in DA:O. Then there are the elite assassins who are just annoying as hell, they disappear from sight and then reappear and oneshots anyone in my party but the tank... there are alot of stupid oversights like this which clearly indicates a very rushed game.
Things like you cant even use most gear on your companions, only yourself like... what? And then you are FLOODED with gear aswell, i have like 15 rings 10 necks and 15 belts in my inventory. Character progression is 0 in this game.
Overall kind of a disappointment compared to the great story telling DA:O. I dont understand why publishers/developers want to rush games to capitalize on the success of a previous game, if the first game is good enough the following game will do well. Look at SC2 for example. I would put DA:O up there with SC:BW in terms of how good the overall game was, even if it took them 10 years the sequel would still sell since the first game was an epicly good game.
Also it takes like nothing to be a game reviewer these days? The biggest swedish newspaper gave the game a 4/5. While claiming CoD Black Ops is one of the best games of all time... like... really?
|
I also enjoy the fact that most critic reviews that claim the first one was better still gave Dragon age 2 a better rating, how is that possible?
|

Yeah this... user reviews for the game are really bad while "game critics" gives it like 4/5 or 80/100. There really is no requirement to be a game reviewer/journalist these days? it feels like they always buy into the hype of games, id even say they get paid to write reviews for certain games since there are some games getting good reviews that are just awfull.

What decent people? This game was made for adolecent kids. Also are these the same decent people that argue about politics in RL and all over the Internet in the same way? SC2 has been way more positively received by users and game critics than DA2 because it wasn't rushed. So you're absolutely right in that regard. No game is ever gonna be perfect when it first comes out either.
Hopefully some people who drop into this thread can appreciate Blizzard just that little bit more

Holy shit, I'm dying right now.
I'm seeing my favorite developer just crash and burn in the matter of 48 hours. First the forum bans, then the playing-online-bans (Despite it being EA, it's still there), and now THIS? Outright saying you are not installing DRM onto our computers, and then doing it anyways?
Jesus Fuck, definitely not getting their shit anymore now.

Sadly, even though i really liked the demo and actually tried to defend it from some early critics, the full game is just a complete disappointment.
Voice acting is awful, many dialogues make absolutely no sense, it just gives you most of the companions with almost no introduction, the world is almost empty, npcs have such a bad design, low quality textures (especially the elves) or even sometimes their mesh is completely off, music is... w8 there was music? hmmm... Quests? Very uninteresting. Story? So flat that Euclid would be envy of. Graphics? Well it's funny cause devs had warned players not to use dx11 engine in demo cause it was still experimental in that build. Really i don't think that the demo build is very much older of the released one.
Anyway that happens when artists, programmers and writers are ordered by people in suits.

people rarely hate blizzard for the game. 90% of the hate blizzard gets is because of bnet 0.2 ,ignoring key features (realm selection etc) and maps. there is still much to do to lift the gameplay to another level but thats what the expansions are for ~
and DA2 sadly got quite some great reviews. pcgamer gave it a freakin 94. many others 9/10. just like evry shitty CoD iteration many bow to the hype since they dont want to offend the fanboys.
i mean how the hell can you write something like "The best RPG combat ever. Not gaming’s best story, but maybe its best storytelling. Darker, sexier, better." with a straight face.

When asked why he thought many people liked Dragon Age: Origins more and if they should forget the whole "spiritual successor to Baldurs gate" he talked about the story in the game when people were obviously talking about the gameplay.
Either Bioware have given up making WRPGs and we will never see one again or they have forgotten what their owns strengths were. Bioware is dead to me.

Got the game and been playing on Hard difficulty, I have played 38 hours now and I have mixed feelings. Some obvious stuff...
I've been playing 36 hours, thats pretty solid, Its at least entertained me for that long, I still have more to do (not sure how much more). The dialog and character interactions are top notch. A few characters stand out. The story is average I suppose.
I really enjoy the combat. Playing on hard has tested my patience more than once, but I often feel I lost that fight because of my error, and I want to improve. Unfortunately, I have come across MANY bugs that add difficulty. Poor hit detection (VERY serious problem in one battle), poor AI if left alone, often doing very strange things.
On the note of bugs, I have also bugged 3 quests now, unable to complete them because very weird things happened. I did the majority of a companion quest... without that companion in my party, even though they are 'required'. He had dialog and the camera focused on him during it, but he wasn't there... Kinda humorous, but ultimately disappointing as I couldn't complete the quest.
Which is the main feel of the game... disappointing. Both Bioware and the Dragon Age title, I was expecting polish. Instead we got a game with a VERY small world (lolworld) map, a total of 5 dungeon layouts, reused 50+ times, with predictable spawns, and a lack of polish that I was expecting. The game feels rushed, which oddly enough, was.
Overall a good (okay, soso) game that I may have trouble recommending. The disappointment is just way to strong.
my2cents
TL;DR
Good but disappoint
