I'm not happy with the 18 game season for three reasons.
1) Longer season means greater injury chance. I could be convinced otherwise on this one, but 16 seems pretty long as it is, and it was 14 before that.
2) Scheduling. 16 is a nice number right now for scheduling. You get a home and away game against everyone in your division, a game against every team in 1 NFC and 1 AFC division yours was matched up against, and 2 games against the other teams in your conference that placed the same in their divisions as you did. Who will you play for those other 2 games? You can't fit another entire division in there, and you can't quite fit in equal games against your own division either. I can't see a way they can maintain such an elegant scheduling process with 18 games. I like being able to know all but 2 of the game that will be on my teams schedule for any year in the future.
3) Records. There is already is a weird spot in NFL history where the 14 game season ends (1978) and the 16 game season begins. Fortunately that also coincides with all the new rules changes that opened up the passing game, so stats wouldn't really be comparable to pre 1978 stats even if they had stayed on 14 games. 16-18 right now would be really weird. Marino's passing record would probably fall to Brees, who is on pace for it every year but just can't get it done in 16 games. 2000 yard seasons for RBs will no longer be as rare, etc. NFL isn't like baseball who added like 8 games on to their already ridiculously long season, here you're extending the season by 12.5%.
Pre-season is a joke already though. They need to do something about that. At the very least maybe stop forcing season ticket owners to buy tickets to it?

Need some help with my fantasy lineup this week. Lemme know what you guys think.
QB Joe Flacco @ Pittsburgh Donovan McNabb @ Philadelphia
TE Jermichael Finley vs. Detroit Dallas Clark @ Jacksonville
WR Kevin Walter @ Oakland Calvin Johnson @ Green Bay
K Nate Kaeding vs Arizona Neil Rackers @ Oakland
I'm thinking D.McNabb, J.Finley, K. Walter, and N.Rackers.

Pre-season is a joke already though. They need to do something about that. At the very least maybe stop forcing season ticket owners to buy tickets to it? At least the scheduling thing could be resolved. 2 games against everyone in your division, 1 game against every team in 2 divisions in your conference, 1 game against everyone in 1 division in the other conference. It's about the only schedule that makes sense to me. However, I don't like it very much. I liked that you had to play the other teams that finished in the same position in the conference. That allowed real rivalries to develop between teams that were strong at the same time (think Colts - Patriots). Also, it gave easier schedules to teams who were rebuilding so they could dig themselves out of the gutter easier.
I am also quite worried about injuries. Players are barely making it through 16 game seasons as it is. 18 games plus the playoffs? I don't like the idea of the Superbowl being played by backups.
Finally, I'd like to add another concern. You label preseason as a joke. To a certain extent, I think you're right. From a fan's perspective it is a waste of time and money outside of the first game (for the "yay my team is playing again!" feeling) and the third game (so you can see how good your team actually is). That fourth game in particular feels completely redundant. Most personnel decisions have already been made by that point. BUT, the owners aren't cutting 1 preseason game, they're cutting 2.
I like the idea of the best players getting on the field. If you only have 2 preseason games, you have to play your starters for at least 3 quarters just to make sure they aren't rusty for the season. I just don't think there is enough time for the low draft picks and undrafted players to get noticed because the higher draft picks will see most of the playing time during the 5 quarters the starters aren't playing. And I think this hurts the overall talent level in the NFL in the long run because more players will get cut without really getting a chance to show their stuff.

I have 4 good WOs that I'm trying to decided on
Jennings vs DET (Obviously) Collie @JAC (If Garcon is still out then probably) Fitz G @ SD H.Nicks vs CHI
The toss up is really between the last two or all three if Garcon comes back. Right now I think I'm leaning the top three I have up there.

SL, im a little late, but between your comparison between NYNJ/ new england and your troy smith comment i found last week, i must say, i hate you
I stand by my statements that Troy Smith is better than Flacco. I'm assuming those are the ones you are referencing. Further, I enjoy a good underdog story, and most people didn't believe Troy Smith could succeed in the NFL.
I took back what I said about your area, though... kind of. I said it was unfair to generalize an entire population on tourists and gas station attendees. I still hate your accents though, and I'm not the only person who does. On that note, which is incredibly off topic, I listened to an old Loveline airing not all that long ago, Adam Corolla was still on it... he had some broad from Jersey on, so he puts her on hold/mute and says something very similar to "God, isn't that accent just disgusting? There's absolutely nothing attractive about it. You could see the most beautiful woman and once you hear that accent be turned off completely." It's so true.
I've heard Qatol's last concern referenced by several former coaches. The fourth game is absolutely vital to final rosters, though. There is a lot of talent evaluation in preseason (Terrel Davis would not have been in the NFL if it weren't for a preseason game in '96, and he had an amazing career in his limited time). There are a lot of special teams guys that are on the cusp of being cut, but it's down to A or B, and that decision is made in the fourth week. And there's no way to really evaluate that talent appropriately in practice.

Maybe got one for a bye this week? Well, no... I don't know any reason to have two kickers, ever.

That's probably what they'll do I didn't think of that. I guess I can see this working, and all of us forgetting about it in 42 years like they did in 1978. There will be a huge shit storm if someone gets injured in the last two weeks though. Imagine if what happened to Wes Welker happens in game 18 of a season one year. We might even be treated to an ESPN special on it. Joy.

why do you have two kickers Eventually one will have a BYE Week. Doesn't everybody do this? It was my first time doing fantasy football.

no, you just usually drop the kicker on the bye week and pick up another one. they usually do the same generally.

So you can spend money on more important positions? Makes sense. You live and you learn I guess.
Any suggestions GTR?

if you did an auction kickers should cost $1 so that isn't that big of a deal

Def play collie if garcon is out, which i think he will be.
Fitz still seems like he's hampered by the knee he hurt in preseason. I thought alot of it had to do with Anderson, but it also seems like fitz doesnt have the ability to run his routes as well as he could. His productivity will probably go up as time goes on. The cards getting Beanie back helps him too.
Also, i wouldn't really trust any Giants now, that team seems absolutely awful.

Collie forever! Screw Garcon! (
However, I don't believe Collie will get a sick amount of points this week, if much at all.
He's a bit nicked up and Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark should be enough to handle the game this weekend.

Guy in my league is desperate for a TE as his only one is on bye. He said he was willing to take one of my TE's for Moss, who I think is probably the best player on his team (his RB's are Greene, Mathews). Would it be worth to give away Keller/Gonzo for him?

In my league that trade would be instantly vetoed. That persons team is terrible, he shouldnt be getting rid of his best player for a TE...
If that flies in your league Moss for gonzo is a ridiculously good trade.

oh shit. def McNabb over Flacco Flacco is going to struggle vs Pitt D. But then again..Philly D is also strong..
Dallas Clark @ Jacksonville. Watch Philly's game last week vs Jacksonville roflstomp. Jacksonville's D is just so bad
Walter at oakland. Oakland's D is still bad.

How on Earth did you get both Finnley and Dallas Clark? Regardless, Clark is probably the better option. And yeah, don't start Flacco. He's bad already, and he's going against Steelers? No thank you.
