no one is really questioning Cutler’s toughness. Football people question his love of the game and whether he has the right mental makeup to be a consistent, effective leader at the quarterback position.
What.

How could you consider it quitting when the guy who's gotten his ass kicked for so long keeps coming back for more? Quitting is acting like VY acted, or like Russel. Cutler doesn't act like those guys. He apparently goes to practice and works his ass off with Martz, and he takes a beating and never complains. That's not quitting. He just doesn't have the showman personality so many people have come to love from their favorite sports stars. People want him to be eccentric--especially people here in Chicago, because so many of our stars have been eccentric people--but he's not that kind of guy. So stupid though. And my guess is that they didn't like that LB he mentioned, or him, because they both weren't talented enough for the game. Coaches like talent.

I mean, yeah, sometimes it's entertaining to see all the banter between games, but IMO, it's meaningless on Sunday >.>

They feel the need to be entertained 24/7, and they want to live vicariously through athletes who have better lives than they will ever have, because they are completely unhappy with their own lives; so, instead of improving their own circumstances, they impart themselves on the athletes and desire more than should be necessary about them. Guys like Cutler don't give into this, so they dislike him. Guys like Manning and Montana didn't do it either, but they won more games. I suspect that, should the Bears start winning a lot more games, and Cutler's decision making improve, people will stop talking about his demeanor. Winning cures all. Another season like this one, with fewer interceptions and people will stop harping on the guy.

I’d hurt it in the spring and been told by my school's team doctor it wasn’t seriously injured. The knee never felt right all season. Two minutes into my visit with Shelbourne, he informed me I had an ACL tear. I’d played 11 straight games on a torn ACL. I quit. But I’d mentally checked out years earlier. Like Jay Cutler, my personality never really fit football, especially college football. I don’t like bullies. In fact, I enjoy exposing their ignorance and cowardice. Football is filled with coaching bullies. From the earliest interactions with my offensive line coach, I knew college football would be a struggle for me. I respond to logic, intellect, respect and fairness. For two years, I was coached by an idiot. And during those two years I focused much of my intellectual energy on the unfairness I perceived within the Ball State football program. Whitlock knows a quitter when he sees one because was one himself, he doesn't like unfair or disrespectful people; GOD MY COACH WAS AN IDIOT (no explanation) I wonder why people think sports writing is a fucking joke.

There will be absolutely no complaining about entertainment at these events in this thread until the NFL deliberately starts trying to alienate its customers.

Oh darn. The game is ruined. ![]() Out of the final 4 teams, only the Jets have cheerleaders. We were pretty much screwed after the divisional rounds ended. What are the producers gonna show when the casters read off the sponsors after commercial breaks? They usually show drunken fans without shirts in subzero temperatures. Dunno what they're planning on showing in the nice warm dome in Dallas. Yeah it's not like the stands are typically filled with hard core fans on the superbowl either. Most people can't afford a gazzillion dollars to park and another two to get in. There will probably be more than most years, considering these teams have two of the best traveling fan bases in football. Yeah but still...

His brother is pretty good in Baltimore, and he was really good in Stanford (aided, of course, by Andrew Luck), so I think he was a pretty solid grab. Other teams? They made poor choices. I wish this would have happened before John Fox was hired.
