Jets stupid there showing their wildcat thing when the quarter is ending, now using that is sort of out the window for now.

Regarding any situation : QB hands the ball to the runner, runner runs through the middle and often gets 0 possibly even - yards. So how come they don't just run around? There's like 6, 7 people just clumped up together right there in the center. How come runners don't just see that there's no possible openings and decide to run around that huddle? Can't they see that there is no opening?

You want to run straight ahead. If you know you can beat some guys to the edge, then you take the space, but otherwise, it's often wasted movement. The defenders have a pretty reasonable angle to come at you from if you're starting 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage and running left and right. Easier for them to close. It's also very tough to see in the trenches. EDIT: See the Cromartie return there for a good example. He tried to go forward, guy in his way, cuts back and runs sideways. He gets caught and ends up losing yardage.

Not pretty. Also you run straight up since majority of the time that's where your blockers are. Usually the runner in that situation is just looking for a gap/hole to explode through.
