Right now: Statistics 1970 players online, in 858 servers. 899720 registered users, of which 258133 (28.69%) have bought the game. In the last 24 hours, 18245 people registered, and 6876 people bought the game. Games started in the last 24 hours: Minecraft Alpha: 7198 Minecraft Classic: 6236 Phased out versions: Survival mode test: 183 Indev: 0 Infdev: 0 Also, from Day9's twitter: "Yeah I'll play minecraft for just 20 minutes. Just 20 short minutes. That's all." haha Holy shit did this game make 2.5 million euros?!?!?!

The incredibly cool thing about this is that most of the success he got with the game was purely due to word of mouth propaganda by people who already played the game. The coverage of the game by bigger online gaming outlets didn't start until the snowball was already rolling. For some reason when you look at the game superficially via youtube vids etc. it somehow seems a lot cooler than it really is. I showed the "official trailer" to my friend and he immediately bought the game, he then proceeded to tell a couple of his friends and while they didn't buy the game because none of them have paypal accounts they all wanted to play it very badly lol.

Also, yay Google Chrome being able to translate the Swedish(?) Paypal page into English, heh. http://minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=28299 I found that thread on the Minecraft forums. It's about Mining in general, at what level ores can appear and how large the veins usually are. Also gives some various example mining patterns depending if you want to be thorough (leave no Short version tip: Iron/Gold/Diamond/Redstone generally spawns in veins that can be 2x2 and up to 3 high. Their faces don't have to be touching, just sides or corners unlike Coal and the lower blocks (Dirt, Gravel, Sand, etc). There's also an optimum level near the bedrock that can give Diamonds (and all other ores) but is above the supercommon level at which lava appears. Sea also has a maximum depth so knowing how far down to go to tunnel under it isn't too hard if you count it out correctly. As a side note, I can't get tilling ground (with a Hoe) to work correctly. It doesn't give me any seeds and the Hoe isn't taking any damage and the ground takes just as long as punching it with my fist. Couldn't find an immediately obvious answer in the Wiki. Just that it's an "indev" feature so I'm not sure if it's supposed to work yet in the main Alpha or not. Edit: Solved. I'm a retard.

I haven't played minecraft in a while, but you're supposed to hit the top of a earth-block that has grass grown over it. You hit the grass once with the hoe, it dissapears and you get seeds in like 1 out of 5 or so. Then you need to hit the earth block without the grass again(I think?) in order to make it so that you can plant the seeds, also keep in mind that as long as they're within 2 or 3 units of water they'll grow like way faster.

i've got a roomate who is obsessed with it, but he only has a pirated version. if i can get him to actually buy the game, we'll set up a server and get a whitelist or something going to avoid griefers. who would want to start building on a NEW legit server? no kits or anything, you have to earn every block. thats how real men play. i want to make an underwater city..... hopefully we get an island map
