No, but items on the ground do have some sort of time limit before they disappear. I encountered this on my first dungeon (I didn't see the spawner in action and was trying to fight my way through a hole with my fists against spiders) and died multiple times trying to get my equipment back. It eventually disappeared, but it was definitely after the third time I got there.

I've tried to play Minecraft... it looks like a boring version of Dwarf Fortress. With a first person look.
Should have donated the $10 to the DF developer instead. :/
Edit: Although I do think the game has a lot of potential and in a year or two of development it will truly be good. But so far Dwarf Fortress leads, by far.

This is one of my favourite games ever, It reminds me of the old days of gaming, didn't care what you did just had fun, except this is a sandbox game not a linear sidescroller so it's way better, and sharing the stories of your adventures is fun too

The thing is, it's not like DF at all. Like... at all. There are no similarities, besides the fact that there are things you can collect and build stuff with it etc., but then you might as well say DF is like SC2. But for whatever reason when I gave it a first superficial look I also thought: lol that's just dwarf fortress in 3d. But it really is completely different
That said, the single player mode of Minecraft currently is totally boring for me. There's no goal (yet, since it's still in alpha) and you've very quickly tried out everything you can do.
Multiplayer on the other hand is totally awesome. Getting 2 or more people together and then trying to organize a huge project, + seeing the daily process is just awesome. The current project me and 2 buddies are working on has been going on for 4 days, and I'm the only one who's not building 12 hours a day (those 2 are total addicts), more like 5 hours a day for me (I mean I have to practice some SC2 :D ).
BTW here's a map of our map (as of like... 5 hours ago or so. The guy who runs the server updates the map once a day). The huge castle in the middle is our project, but that's just the inner wall.
If you open the picture with paint you can see every single block we're working on

my god, you people really think that people have done "everything" that can be done in minecraft?
please go educate yourself in proper autism simulation by taking a trip to www.minecraftforum.net Some things to focus on are insane building projects, redstone logic gates and other redstone contraptions and mine cart stations and the many many other things that havent even been found.
There are also nearly weekely updates, each one with the potential to entirely remake the game (compass comes to mind here)
Please people, dont say mine craft is boring or anything of the sort, your brain is the only limiting factor here.

I can't connect to the TL servers. Are they working fine for everyone or is it US only or something?
|
I think Fontong said the TL servers are down untill multiplayer gets monsters properly. In other news, its time for a game update!
Edit: Name fail
|
Tl servers are down. Don't think fong wants to bring them back till smp is more developed. On another note, the secret Saturday update is out. Warning. Slow download. Sneaking and Somme other things, cant really check because I'm at work and people are all dlling it at once.
Share the news here if you can!

Minecraft.com is down for me T_T

Minecraft is down for me Anyone having the same problem? Just bought the game yesterday so really want to play but the game chrashed mid-patch, gave me a gray screen of death that forced reboot and now it says I can't connect. Guessing that the patch killed the servers?
|
The servers are having a lot of trouble right now, because of the massive amount of people patching. Give it some time. Im DLing ~ 1.5 KB/sec
Also, its Minecraft.net, not .com ^^
EDIT: When downloading the patch, my computer suddenly gave me a totally grey screen. On both my screens. I had to restart. It appears the patch is bugged. Dont update if you can avoid
EDIT 2: By hitting WinKey + L and unlocking the computer, i was able to get in. I found a new item, a fishing rod. Oh, and by holding down Shift, you can crouch, so you can't fall off a cliff. Useful for bridge building

just let the site calm itself down, dont even try today.
Play minecraft tomorrow xD
|
If your launcher is bugging, go to http://www.minecraft.net/ and download the latest one manually.
The site is up right now, in a very non-fancy fashion. Everything should be back to normal on Monday according to Notch.

I really love the concept of Dwarf Fortress, it's like the ultimate in procedurally generated worlds.
But when I tried to play the game I was trying to make heads or tails of the ascii symbolic graphics and the user interface. . I even downloaded a new graphic pack and read some tutorials, but it's still an uphill climb. The learning curve is huuuuuuuge on this thing.
|
For anyone who doesn't have the game yet, it's a free to play weekend because the site when down. just go to minecraft.net
|
Aww I cant launch anymore. Fatal error extracting something. Assuming it has to do with the server outage
Edit: Had to dl latest build.
Cant wait to jump on the TL server.

H O L Y S H I T...
I saw a post today on reddit that mentioned that Minecraft is free until his servers are back up or whatever, so i thought i'd give it a try since i've seen this game mentioned everywhere the last couple of weeks.
It is addicting as hell, i just spent the entire day walking around building little houses and collecting shit left and right. I think i have spent a good 6-7hours straight today, just playing this damn game.
