Just started playing a few days ago, this game is seriously amazing. I am so glad people started recommending this. The first time a creeper came out of nowhere and blew me up I nearly had a heart attack.
Now it's time to start playing on the TL servers!
Btw what is the difference between the two servers? Anyone know?

This is what I love about Minecraft, even though the graphics are simplistic you are still immersed in the game. It's rare that I will explore a cave for more than 10 minutes without jumping out of my chair in fright, it's so intense.
omfg almighty, I haven't laughed so hard in my whole life. This even surpassed laddergoat by a tiny margin xD
Anyway...Minecraft is so awesome, it just has so much potential. With some new enemies to cause you trouble (like some sort of mole who can dig through dirt and get you even if you have a well entrenched position, some lizards spitting acid to burn through wood or something) it should be even more exciting.
Why don't serious game making companies decide to create a game of this sort with a shitton of crafting possibilities, multiple enemies, nice game engine and better graphics (tho I really don't care about graphics personally)?;/
I absolutely love this game. I picked it up during the free to play weekend, and have been addicted since.
I started a new save file the other day, and hit gold. I actually built my first fort for the night quite a bit away from my starting point; there's no way I was ever going to find it again if I spawned. I did mark my territory with torches, but after I picked up some supplies by tunneling down, I expected to settle down in a more permanent beach front area. So, I camp out for the night, build some supplies, and start digging down. I find an absolutely massive cavern, that I'm honestly not sure if I've explored 100%. After about 20 minutes of looking for the way I came in (since I had absolutely no picks left, and no wood.) I start to panic; digging through stone takes forever without any tools, and I don't know how far underground I am.
So I decide to start digging in an area that's fairly close to the roof. Luckily I do have some ladders with me, so it's not all bad. Break two rocks going upward, and BOOM I strike sand. Things are looking pretty good now. So I dig it out and make my way to the surface. It's nearly dark, so I choose a nice area and build a little sand/stone fort, as well as a massive stone "tower" to act as a landmark (it was connected to my underground cavern since I wanted to go back and gather all the iron/coal I had to pass up. There's no torch markers in sight, so I figure I've lost my original workbench/chest/furnace/supplies, but that's not a big deal. Was more afraid about not ever finding this place again that I've now decked out with furnaces/supplies (hence the massive tower.)
So I go back down, and in the cavern I acquire about a stack or redstone, 4 diamonds, about 2 stacks of iron, and a shit load of coal. I manage to make my way out after I feel I've done a pretty good job exploring, and I set all my crap in the chest. At some unspecified time, I died.... and spawned literally right next to my fortress. I was so freaking happy and absolutely dumbfounded by my luck.
Just bought the game and it's AMAZING. I love mining in the game, it's so much fun and about an hour into the game I found diamonds and red glowing stones (rubies?). Guess I'm pretty lucky(?)

you found redstone dust. it's required to make the electrical systems of minecraft. pretty much you can theoreticallymake ANY type of circuit with the game given enough dust and enough space even a computer.

I cried I laughed so hard when I watched that video for the first time. So amazing. The little things like that where you fail or die make the game even more fun.
One thing this game needs though. Dragons.
EDIT: Oh and I just spent like 45 minutes trying to find my base as I had just gone through some caverns for over an hour and came out somewhere and I had no clue where I was. After finally finding my base I realized I had came out on the other side of the hill that my base was on and I had just ran around for an hour for no reason. ;p

Yeah, that's fairly crazy. I'm sure this guy has a good amount of expenses to keep the game running (I know nothing about servers, and the fact that you can play offline may lessen it), but the guy is practically set for life.

The expenses are really nothing. He's making boatloads of cash.
Honestly, I think he's making way too much for the quality of the product, but such is the power of word of mouth. He's starting up a small company and he's going to keep improving the product so I don't mind. He's improving my purchase.

you're saying he makes $91,250,000 a year? bulllllshit.
IIRC, he made $250k the day after the free weekend (when they couldn't process payments or something like that) :S
In total there are over 200k+ people that have bought the game (Site is down atm so I can't check exact amount) which at $10 a piece is looking at making 2 million dollars already and since I last checked the stats page I think he was averaging about 35k new users a day with 15k users a day buying the game, so about $150k a day at the moment on average. Obviously the figure will balance out after awhile and that many people won't be buying the game but it is still quite impressive.
EDIT: He is also starting his own small company to create more games and better support minecraft so he is paying employees now and buying a building and all that with his new income. Looking forward to what comes from all of this.
