Set bonuses are retroactive because blizzard doesn't want there to be multiple versions of sets like the lvl 60 nats. Furnace and Rimehart are unique changes because they were literally gamebreaking. I think I remember some guys able to do GR 200 or something on a ptr with Rimehart and EP. Blizzard was forced to change all of them because they couldn't allow them to exist in their then current state.

Maybe monk is too much of a success that makes me feel other classes are bland and boring in comparison
Regarding class choice I feel that I'm in the same boat. Wizard sure has interesting skills but videos/stream show incredibly boring gameplay when you're used to Gungdo Gear.
Think I'm going to try a pet wd which to me looks better than jade gameplay at the moment. Wouldn't be surprised if I rolled a monk again 2 weeks into the season because I miss the playstyle. Add that I didn't do anything special this season so I have a lot to shoot for. Only finished grift 33 in time as of yet. no unity, ancient schaefers (no gift).

2 things about this specifically
furnace was actually infinitely better when it did health burn because it was the only way to deal with RGs in high grifts
second because the item was so broken they had to retroactively change it

man it's really hurting my ladder progression before season ends (hardcore) by not having a torch or at least a nice furnace ( i have a decent non-ancient but it needs a gift...)
going to be close to pl400 by the end of this season with 0 torches, so sad RNG. >:|

What's a torch? I am close to 400 and have a crappy furnace, low damage and wrong main start, and haven't gotten a single gift.

Amazon have the base game at 20 and expansion at 27 bucks. Not cheap but not anywhere near 95 either. Not sure where you live though since it's the boxed copy.

it's one of 2 must have weapons for monk this season to progress into the leader boards.

reduces the mana cost of our high damage spell and increases its damage quite a lot.
there are other builds with fist but I never found one of those either lel.
it's a real shame too, my other items were pretty good this season but no proper weapon = stagnation.

fun story
i died on my first hc monk
made a new one, got carried to 70, then got carried through t6 rifts
decent torch dropped for me on my 3rd run, and a gift dropped for me on my 4th run through
gifted and rerolled it
then i died 2 hours later
havent found another gift or torch after that on any of my characters

I'm having a hard time picking a class for season 3.
I play hardcore and I play enough to be 'slightly' competitive, AKA top 500ish leaderboards, will never have enough time without insane RNG to get top10/100 etc.,
Season 1 I did Jade Doc
Season 2 I did EP Monk
I was going to try barb again as I haven't played it since vanilla, but the recent nerfs make that less appealing. I'm having a hard time deciding because I'm out of new classes. I played WD/MONK in s1/s2 because I'd never played those classes previously.
I've played DH the least out of the remaining classes so maybe I'll try that again. The play style doesn't seem that fun but it would be nice to have RG die quickly.
