Mainly Because RMAH.
Sucks because it's the only thing that would have a chance to bring back masses to d3 (myself included). PvP won't do it unless it's extremely grindy and well designed with a ladder etc... which we can put a cross on with the way d3 has evolved.
Also unrelated but I believe the 4 player game was a massive mistake by blizz. From 1.0 to 1.05 with shared mf, augmented diffiiculty etc it really drove players to play solo and get bored faster. Remember 8 players infinite baals? Can't say it was really fun to play but it was instantly packed with 8 players just because you know, people play to have fun with other people.
Also not have all the area accessible in a open world sucked. It was a pillar of the diablo franchise. Picking the same quest (which you might not even finish) got boring. The idea of boss hunting or run was really fun in d2. Things like doing quick meph while group is getting to diablo was an awesome feature.
8 players + open world would have lead to much more "run" diversity an not the fucking boring 1 player Alkaizer run.

Hell I think even taking a page out of PoE's short "races" would get me playing. Seriously had a lot of fun participating in one last week-end. If a feature like that were implemented, I would play more often.

There's a lot of people buying unid legendaries for fairly high prices. Most of them will end up being sold for 100k after rolling no lucky stats but I suppose with a large number of them, the 100m+ ones balance everything out. How profitable is it buying unid legendaries? I'm debating between selling all my legendaries to unid buyers for reliable income, identifying them myself, or even buying unids.

diablo.incgamers.com has ladders and resets..... there you go, problem solved.

I used to think like you, selling all my "good" unid legendaries. Until one day I decided to just say fuck it and IDed an inna chest which sold for 100m, on the next week I got a Dead Man's Legacy with 300dex/300vit roll which s supposed to worth a ton (phoenixrage said 1b on cdx's stream, I think its worth less than that).
To be honest most of the major buyers of legendaries are not paying high enough for them. I would just ID them myself.
I would only recommend people to sell their legendaries IF they are "new" to the game and need some gold to build an initial set.

Ok, I just talked with a guy I sell unids to. He was fairly low level, but rich as fuck, so I guess this is a good way to make cash. Unids of good legendaries will seldomly roll well, but once they do, you can sell them for a few billion. With a large enough capital, buying unids becomes more reliable as a source of income and is highly time efficient.

Hardly the same thing without a proper gear reset.

Pretty sure he was just trollin heh, but I agree, it's too bad that a true characters reset doesn't exist, or at the least the option to play in that environment (similar to there being an option in D2 to play ladder w/ character resets or non-ladder with no resets)

Stopped playing when I realized I wasn't going to keep all the stuff after I die or blizz goes under, whichever comes first.
Unless they got blizz servers in hell, wonder how they'll manage the account transfer though.

What a blast. yeah, well, its something. personally, the idea of a ladder in a game like this is stupid to me, but whatever. ladder rewards time played so you might as well just have a ladder that tracks the time you play a character.

as i understand it, you have to use a brand new character and cant swap gear from others.
That would make it an honor system. Kinda like multiplayer Ironman runs in Diablo 1. Still better than nothing I suppose.

why dont they introduce a mode between hardcore and softcore?
i think hc is amazing, but its one major weakness that keeps many players from sticking to it is the issue of lag- or disconnect deaths. for most players, its just inacceptable to lose a char on which they spent lots of time and gold simply because their internet connection or the battle.net servers fucked up.
therefore, i would suggest a mode that works like hardcore, except that instead of being dead forever, the player loses one randomly selected item that his char was wearing the moment he died.
this way, there would be a strong enough incentive to not die, in particular for high-end chars that have 200m+ items on every slot. but if someone dies, either because he fucked up or because bn/internet fucked up, its not the end of the world. this system would also have the advantage of removing high-end items from the economy on a regular basis. it would also provide an advantage to more skilled players over less skilled players. and because people only wear trash in norm-hell, this system would not even be too discouraging for noobs who just picked up the game.
another advantage is that keys and ubers become more challenging. even one more advantage: with the difficulty level of d3 right now, the game is more or less a dps competition - with my "elasticmode", defensive gear could become more feasible and used again.
what do you think of this idea?
edit: my suggestion would also cater to bobby kotick: if rich guys lose their items more often, they will on average spend more on (re-)buying gear.

blizz doesn't want to deal with lag. say they implement this then we start having conspiracy theories where blizz was purposely lagging their servers so people can spend more money. just a headache to deal with in general

Why even have hardcore mode? We could just have players who promise to only trade with other hardcore players, and delete their characters the first time they die.

My point is that you don't "need" hardcore mode to exist in the game if you've got the discipline to just delete your character yourself when it dies. But its always better to have it built into the game. Same for the ladder system. And as SC2 shows, you don't need to be in contention for the very top of the ladder to care about it.
