the problem is when you have skills in the 1 2 3 4 hot keys... and some of those skills need directions/targets... there is no problem when that skill doesnt require targets...you need to use shift or press 1 and then click with your mouse... thats two clicks instead of one and its hard to do...in D2 when you switch a skill it automatically bind to right or left click so you can aim with your mouse automatically.

They're autocast at the current mouse location...

didnt know that but... thats the problem... just doesnt feel right when you are not clicking/ or aiming with left or right click.... i dont understand why they chose this format... when the D2 one was fine... instead of 4 skill slot ... allow 6 slots 1-6 then allow to left or right click to bind so you can click /aim with mouse

It's more consistent as the method is the same whether the ability is self target, on-target, or on-ground. Also, once you get used to it it's one less action to perform. Makes a lot of sense to me.

Besides most of the skill slots being locked, I thought the casting system in beta was far superior to D2. I suggest you try it out before you bash it.

In Diablo 2 I could just cycle skills on my right click. Now I need to get used to annoying hold-still-micro.
You will get use to it fast.
Anyone who played a Hammerdin at some point, which I imagine is a fairly extensive list given how OP they were when I stopped playing (granted it was ages ago) will be familiar with the exercise.

Not sure what you are talking about. Have you actually played the beta ?
If you push 1 for a targeted spell it goes where your mouse is currently at. It's pretty simple. If you havent played yet, wait before speaking of gameplay issue like these. Believe me its pretty easy.

Pretty sure [Crimson]Bason hasn't played the beta. Before playing beta, i was wondering to myself the same thing.
And well, the current system looks perfect so far, very well thought.

With each new Blizzard release, we get a treat from our friends at Landover Baptist Church! :D
Here is just a short list of the horrible things this game includes...
Upon starting the game up, the player is asked to "role-play" as one of three characters: the Destroyer, a tatooed meathead obviously inspired by a member of the BDSM-sodomite community known as a "power top bear"; the Vanquisher, a scantily-clad harlot who gains "levels" by soliciting people for s*x and fornicating with them; and, worst of all, the Scientist, a demon-summoning wizard who builds sex-robots and espouses Darwinian propaganda! After choosing to role-play as one of these three characters, the player is then required to choose an "animal partner", which in the context of this game is probably either used as a sacrificial offering to demons or for the player to partake in simulated bestiality with.
All of the characters are required to use witchcraft and sorcery by purchasing "spells" from some sinister cabal. The player is also NOT allowed to use prayer or faith in the Lord to overcome obstacles!
The player is constantly encouraged to murder people, steal their possessions, and then sell them or pay a wizard to "enchant" them to become stronger, implying that a life of thievery, murder and Satanism is a valid career option.
The game is infinitely long! It never ends! It's a calculated attempt by Blizzard into forcing people into Diablo-addiction and a life-time of servitude to Satan!
The game includes detailed instructions for your character to consult with spirits and summon skeletons. This, of course, is specifically forbidden by Deuteronomy 18:10-12! The main plot of the game is to sabotage a mine. What kind of person would want to sabotage a capitalist operation like that? A free-thinking anarchist!
Finally, the game encourages repetitive mouse-clicking and movement, which can lead young women into a repetitive stimulation of her lady-bits. Blizzards Entertainment wants to train young ladies to m*sturbate!
Clearly there is no limit to the lows that Blizzard will go to to destroy our innocent children. I am certain they have gay orgies with animals all the time at their headquarters. They even put a picture of their CEO on the box: ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/aNRdL.jpg<br>)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like whoever wrote that review was using Torchlight? 3 Classes, sabotoage a mine... sounds like torchlight to me.
EDIT: Should probably look at the source before I take it too seriously .....

Quick question: how does people plan on playing their first playthrough? Right now I kinda feel like I wanna do everything at once lol.
Seriously though, I have numerous friends/classmates whom are also getting D3 at day 1 just like me, and of course we plan on playing together... but I'm not so sure that it's optimal on doing so right away. For one, you can't be more than 4 people per party now, and we're more than that, so we can't just make one party and play through everything together. Regardless, given school is still on, there's no way we'd all be synched progress-wise for very long, making a playthrough together either very hickupy, or some of us would have to skip certain sections. Now, I do not really think the story is the most important part of Diablo, but I'm still interested in and would like to experience to its full extent at least the first time. Thus, I think I will play through solo the first time, at least up 'til Nightmare, partially to get a more advanced feel for the changes from D2 in my own pace, and partially for the sake of the story. (Playing with pubs I'm not even considering for some time, given my experience with them in the beta lol)
So how are you guys planning on playing it the first time? Solo/Co-op/Pubs etc? Are you gonna play for fun, try out HC right away, or just rush to 60 and ignore everything else?

Solo playthrough.
My friends and I are honest enough to admit that neither of us would be patient enough to wait for the others to catch up. We'll pretty much start together at the midnight release but then progress indepently after that. Syncing up again will probably happen after we've finished Normal mode, either to try out other characters or to band together for Nightmare and beyond.

I dealt with the shift click situation by binding it to grave (tilde -shift . I used shift click nonstop in d2 (eg guided arrow) so it wasn't a big deal learning the mechanic. Putting it on the grave key reduced finger gymnastics a little bit, but it did cause cognitive numerical confusion briefly until I became inured.

I'm planning to go solo my first play through. I'm planning to explore everywhere, watch all the cutscenes, and just generally immerse myself in the story. I wouldn't mind starting another character that I only play with my friends, or even just grouping with them if we ever happen to be around the same area. In general, though, I'll be going alone for most of the first play through.

Trying to decide which class to play. Which of the current five classes feels the most like the D2 Paladin? (ie sword/shield viable, relatively tough and quick.)

No class has the REAL feel of the paladin. But all the classes are very fun to play so just pick one and do what you want.
