This can be checked by using the filter in the AH and looking for "Has Sockets." The three gear types consist of boots, gloves, and shoulders. And yes, rings and amulets can have sockets, which is pretty badass ^^ Should show level 6-8 gems, they are more representative than level 14 if what is known about gems is true.

I can't wait to play the market ^_^ It'll be interesting to see whether or not we'll have a similar level of market complexity as we had/have in WoW. It'll take a while until common prices and values are established, despite gold values for crafting and sales setting a certain standard. And then there's the thousands of players waiting to do just the same, plus the professional gold farmers / item sellers who certainly have already set up their infrastructure and are waiting for release.

Even if they can't find a way to circumvent the regional locks (and I'm sure they will), there's always "regional" gold farmers. Gold farmers / professional item sellers will exist in every region.

Exactly my expectation, they may not be chinese but there will be people devoting alot of time to making money off of the auction house. Anyone casually playing D3 or even seriously playing D3 won't make anything off the action house I expect.

You get a Arkaine's valor with 140 armor instead of your previous one of 120 armor with all the same stats...I would personnally sell the previous one for real money...then, I will buy other stuff with it untill I get a crazy strong champion. Then, every item that is less strong will be sold to the benefit of my bank account...

Yeah but I don't think anyone wants to buy those items, and the small amount of people that do already buy them from the devoted farmers.

The idea floating around is that most botters/hardcore farmers will actually try to avoid the AH, and sell directly to players(basically how they do in D2 and WoW). We'll see if that works. I'm going in with the goal of making the price of the game back over the course of a year or so. I don't know if that is a realistic expectation.

Nothing new for those who played WoW; people will (massively) play the market or at least try to. Not only can you get rich ingame, you can actually earn money! In theory. Because you'll compete with: - professional, foreign gold/item farmers - professional, local gold/item farmers - professional AH "businessmen" - AH bots - non-professional AH players (the kind of player that dominated a specific part of the market in WoW) - AH amateurs all trying to make a profit Except for the random lucky drop or off-chart sale, none of us will make any sort of profit on the RMAH. Given enough time, sure, you'll eventually cash out some bucks on Paypal, but chances are that you've spent so much time it wasn't worth it. Take a look at the rates D2 items and WoW gold currently and recently went for, and then translate that into time played. Unless you find a SoJ five hours into the game or plan on spending the majority of your time on the AH, dabbling in the market with the goal of turning profits will be an adventure into masochism and a major waste of time.

Most won't make much, but a few will find that amazing piece of loot that they don't want, and sell it for a decent take. I have the exact same objective...I no I believe it will be very easy in fact...I do not understand why people think you will not make any money from the game... Let's look at LoL...most people pay for skins that doesnt even affect the game play. Therefore, people will pay for easy gear...Then, if u can avoid the urge of buying items on the AH and sell for money the items you do not want, you will make money. Even if it is not much money, you will still earn some...I play this game for fun, not for living of it... Now, if I remember correctly, an average stats Shaco could be sold around 5$ us on internet back in the days of 1.9... I had Shaco or gaze on all my characters...(around 5-6)...now that a character can change skills very easily and you do not need 3 sorceress to exploit all skills...it means you need 3 times less items...Which means I could sell around 4 shacos/gaze I had...15 bucks right there only for the hats...and there are like 8 other pieces of equipement...

Realistically, if you're only using the AH to buy new gear for your character, there's no reason to use the RMAH to do it. You'd use the normal gold AH for that, because converting to real $ is going to entail some loss in value for you (e.g. from Blizzard taking a cut of your sale).
