I think they actually talked about maybe increasing the AI and making monsters more agressive, but if they do that it will be for the Inferno difficulty as a whole. I don't think it is possible to completelly avoid the complexity curve, specially on boss fights. They actually want it to be as equal as possible, so that if you feel like it, you can farm Act 1 without losing too much. Look, with every diablo game the AI has got worse. D2, despite all its touting of group based monster ai and smart behavior, D1 monsters are still much more brutal. The guys need to look at the roots of diablo
What? They were tough, but it sure as hell wasn't the AI that made them tough. How many swarms of creatures could you massacre by camping your ass in a doorway, killing them one-by-one? You could argue that they were intentionally 'stats-tough' to compensate for the fact that they were 'AI-retarded'.

I was hoping if they added a 4th difficulty that the whole place would be max level so you could basically farm whatever you pleased. I just hope that it's extremely difficult, but I doubt it. I think the best we can hope for is slightly more difficult than D2 Hell (which wasn't difficult).

If they had any sense, they'll make it so god damn difficult that only Zeus himself could get through act one upon entry. The rest of us will have to wait for gear and mathcrafting to reach a high level before completion is possible. THAT'S how you keep the top-tier lunatics occupied for a long-ass time.

yes i am really excited about a more developed late game in diablo. that was really the only thing that sucked in d2 was that once you had good gear you had already beaten hell 100+ times so why keep playing? (other than the fact that its addicting) im pumped to see some longevity. also i think the RMAH will add to the longevity and keep top tier players interested

Anybody else think they're just gonna add in random "quests" or things that give you a bonus reward a la daily dungeons/heroics from WoW? I really hope their idea to stop people from doing meph runs over and over is more creative than that.
Unrelated edit, not about to make a new post when this one is so close to the end of the thread anyway:

Anyway, to set expectations straight, beta in August is unlikely. But it shouldn't be too long after.

"We don't have any plans to restrict or change the game difficulty for Hardcore characters.
Surviving the challenges thrown at you by outplaying them is the entire point. Hardcore characters that take on Inferno and survive will be granted cosmetic rewards for their efforts." -Bashiok So apparently there will be extra incentive to do hardcore :D

ya its probably just those stupid achievements like in SC2

i really hope they dont use a title system like wow and opt instead for special colors or maybe a tabard.

As I remember, Diablo 2 was pretty damn challenging on hell (patch 1.09-1.10) but I also played 100% legit (no high runes) and hardcore as well. I dont need super difficult endgame where mobs have 1-shot abilities or bosses can only be killed while in a 4-man group. You could easily find yourself in trouble if you rushed headlong into a pack of mobs, especially if bosses had some nasty attributes (extra strong, cursed, aura enchanted, immunities, extra fast etc.)
What made hellmode challenging was in fact that all the mobs moved really fast compared to the previous difficulties.
Also I dislike all the wow-comparisons. Diablo 2 invented titles for completion of the game,,,not WoW.
As a hardcore player I dont need achievements or cosmetic awards as an incentive to play. Being able to survive is all that should matter, which is also why I would love the god damn ladder back that displayed levels and players that were dead and such. The ladder was some of the best in Diablo 2.

This is a great idea, but unfortunately so good that Blizzard would never implement it. The game will probably be ridiculously easy to beat, even online in the hardest dungeons. I'd love for their to be some nearly-impossible final act / difficulty though: they could even call it a bonus act / difficulty so casuals can feel they beat the game without beating that

Just adding a fourth difficulty wouldn't change the game at all. I mean, that's just: "This one goes to 11"-Syndrome. Click here for a reference of this problem. Trying to flatten the complete difficulty is a good idea in itself, although I guess they will have to give Act1 monsters new abilities or AI. Otherwise everyone is going to farm there. People will always find the path of least resistance.
Something else: Would/could Blizzard make the drops across Inferno random? I mean, not having 1 monster drop the max treasure class but randomizing it every morning or something? Would be difficult to track that way.
This quote seems to point to something like that:
In addition we’re attempting to de-emphasize path of least resistance by creating a more equal value across monster types. We’re not going to get into specifics about who can drop what or how much, but our intent is that being out in the world exploring should be as lucrative (potentially more) as simply aiming for the quickest-to-reach boss and running that over and over. At least they seem to be working on something like an "intelligent" tracking system, where you get diminished returns when playing the same area without playing another act or something.
If the treasure classes and drop chances are server side data, will we be able to "decode" their system? In D2, all the Treasure Class and Pindleskin problems followed from datamining. Any tech savy people here that know if the Always-online model makes this more difficult/impossible?
EDIT: Just read through the complete quote, Bashiok confirms new monster AI in Inferno. That's big news!.
It may be that you need to stick around in Hell difficulty for a bit longer because you beat the game at level 58 or something, but it shouldn’t be a long drawn out XP farming situation just so you can advance – if we do it right. Does this mean you NEED to be level 60 to enter inferno, as a requirement I mean? Bye bye rushing in that case.

Untwinked Hell was actually quite difficult.

Rushing will still exist you will just have to change the areas where you rush to perhaps you can't go to inferno, but hell act 3 or whatever where there are the most easy monsters to beat.

If they keep the 'switch chars too fast and get banned for 10 minutes' I'm going to ask for my money back!

If this is true couldnt a good photoshoper just photoshop them self into a picture?

Did you even read what they said? Hell monsters were lvl 85 while Inferno monsters will be 61+, while the D3 max char level is 60; meaning they are stronger than you right off the bat.
What I'm hoping for is for inferno mode to include some sort of dungeon exclusive to itself, like the last bastion fortress of badassery where TEAMWORK is the only thing that can pull you out of it in one peice.
That would be awesome.
But who knows, there was a secret cow level in D2, so D3 is bound to have its own secret level. And before you idiots start saying the cow level was too easy. Try to remember that D2 was made in a different time, before developpers REALLY started balancing their games.
Wait for the game to come out before you crucify it. Or better yet, be grateful they are making a game at all.

I've seen some pretty convincing shops before... I wouldent cross out the possibility.
Brings me to another point... Why does blizzard do this? We all dont live in germany, not very fair to offer betas for such a specific thing. They need to give beta keys out to fan sites like they did in sc2 beta =P Maybe they will down the road and I'm just getting edgy waiting lol
