Incredible final. After evil winning on t7 and cure, I expected him to just close it out. dm13 had me on edge the entire time as I expected evil to just come in with full stack and just bully rapha out, but very happy to see rapha take it and close it out on Toxicity. Shame about the delays and the sponsor stuff afterwards though =/ I understand it's a community event and all, but I just feel that they could've had better...timing of it?

hey guys, just started playing the game (FPS experience in CS) and i had one small question

does armor reduce damage taken? are different weapons stronger vs. unarmored/armored opponents?

and if armor doesn't reduce damage taken, does it just act as extra health or smth?

If you have sufficient armor, 66% of the damage you take will be absorbed by the equivalent armor points. Other than that nothing special about it.

So basically if you have very low HP but a sizable armor stack, you should still be very careful.

I think it was that at 27 HP you're still railable and at 33 you still die from a direct rocket or grenade. (both situations implying a big armor stack) But again, a decent opponent can probably take you out with lightning gun, plasma or shotgun in that kind of situation, so unless you know he's just as weak as you, or you can setup a good trap of sorts, it's best to just avoid confrontation and try to stack up on HP.

Man I played some the other time and I got absolutely demolished. It wasn't like CS where you can hax out a win from time to time. I've always been interested in these games where the skills relies on two skillets shooting and moving but I suck way too much

Trust me there's far, far more to Quake than just moving and shooting. This mindset might also explain why you got absolutely demolished.

In fact I'd say Counter-Strike relies more on aiming than Quake does. I played Counter-Strike for a very long time and love it, but I have to admit that most of the skill involved is how good your aim is, how well you know the map and how well you work with your team. And quite frankly I feel like Quake has always had a lot more going for it, or at least the Dueling did. The idea of getting map control, exercising it (maybe to deny your opponent either weapons or major items), item timing (probably the most important thing even for a beginner; it's the items that you fight for, not the frags) and of course knowing the map well enough that you can retreat when you have to and re-stack if need be, or that you can set up cool traps and so on... I mean sure, if you watch toxjq or k1llsen play, it's not hard to get the mindset that Quake is all about aim (even though they're phenomenal players in every respect, that's where they shine the most) but really it's more about positional play, item control, map control and just strategy overall. You can't just go in guns blazing and expect to do well.

Anyway I'm sure Phyrigian can further explain some of these concepts in much greater detail so feel free to talk to him. XD
