AP is ridiculously fun, mass mushroom can do about 900 per shroom and if you run right into a field of eight to escape you can usually grab a bunch of kills you usually wouldn't. Feels a lot more fun to see people run into a bush to B out and then die mysteriously to four shrooms stacked.

Keep up the AP so that his mushrooms can rice up jungle camps (example: kill wraith camp, put down a mushroom.Next time it respawns, u get free gold). After that, DPS/survival. You don't need a whole lot. Guinsoo's rageblade is probably all the AP you need. Yeah, teemo needs to be played as a hardcore rice champ as he has nothing else going for him really. Plus moving from lane to lane means plopping down more mushrooms between the lanes (map control), and he has a movespeed buff to get him where he needs to be. Play aggressively everytime you rice up a good item, and then when that advantage is eventually gone, play defensively while ricing up some more. Teemo's a good turtler.
