Why do people always yell at me when I say they should get survivability items as carries.

Because they're bad.

First time we lost badly. Second time I managed to farm up to 300 kills with Sion in an over hour long game (3000 hp no hp items) and managed to consistently crit for 700 and heal my team for 350 a hit. Felt so satisfying to win.

A counter is something which, when used, completely cancels out something else. Ignite doesn't counter heal or heals, it limits them, exhaust doesn't counter dps champs, it disables them (and is less effective then a root or stun to boot) knowing that somebody is sitting in your bush setting up a gank will not save you if you are already out of position in the first place (i.e. attacking their tower and notice there is a not-so-friendly BEAR STANCE running at you from river) Fortify and Teleport don't counter anything, it just delays them and if someone has revive I don't think you'll find a single soul that says "well I guess I shouldn't attack that guy because his summoner spells counter my damage" Ignite does 50 + 20/lv to the target Heal heals 140 + 20/lv to yourself Guess what that means? It means that using heal during Ignite will still give you more health then ignite deals at level 1 and even healing/damage at 2, where after that ignite will deal a net of 10 damage per level. That's not really significant at all as if that much damage (a whopping 160 at 18) will have killed you then you are probably dead anyways. Not exactly a counter. Perhaps my suggestions were poor, I only spent a moment thinking of them, but I don't think dismissing the idea of extra layers of depth in summoner spell choice is a bad idea. Doesn't ignite reduce incoming healing/regen by 50% for the duration? If it nullifies the effect completely I'd say it's pretty damn close to a counter. Like ,when you could cleanse ignite I called cleanse a counter to ignite, and imo ignite counters heal because on top of nullifying the effect it does damage and reduces healing for the duration as well.

Thornmail is debatable too. Well I'm not even talking about necessarily finishing shit (though obviously finishing any of those 4 eventually is good). I'm talking like get a Negatron/Chainmail somewhere so you live long enough for someone to CC the guy jumping on you, or so that you don't randomly die to global/long-range ults.

On October 26 2010 09:20 DiracMonopole wrote: Question: Other than the super end game after you have all your top end items, is there any point to potions (other than healing/mana ones ofc)? Yes. A lot of it has to do with timing and how the game is progressing. Two big examples are Kayle and Twitch. If you are going to enter a teamfight with Kayle and you already have Rageblade, you should probably consider buying Green and Red elixirs (in that order imo). If you feel that the elixirs will help you win the fight with good certainty, they are definitely worth the buy. Losing a teamfight can end up losing the game, so a "sunk" cost of 600 gold can make a huge difference even early on. If you've already got Rageblade and some other item like Malady or Ghostblade, you should probably just consider triple elixirs instead of building another item. 900 gold for Triple elixirs will give you such a ridiculous buff that it'd be difficult for you to lose the next teamfight unless you really lose out on the initiation. This depends on your current farm, though, and the progress of the game. If you feel like the game is going "slowly" grab another item first. ==== When playing Twitch, I usually go Avarice -> Avarice -> IE. If I think I can get successful ganks off and have someone that can cover my lane, I will get a Red elixir just to be safe (the extra HP can save you in a 1v1 or 2v2 situation, especially if the other team has burst damage). Even if you only get 1 kill, it pays for itself and also gives others on your team some gold for assists, as well as putting whoever you killed behind in the XP/gold race. You definitely want to get at least Green elixir after you get IE. Ideally you could carry Red and Green around with you for when a fight is going to happen. Green elixir with IE is just ridiculous and is a 100% requirement. ==== For other champs it is highly situational. If you die as Chogath, you wanna get a Blue elixir for the CD so you can get your stacks back up. If you are Kassadin, a Blue elixir can put your damage right over the edge needed to pull off some ganks or attack a tower successfully. Red elixirs are fantastic on pretty much any tank with core items and people like Pantheon and Akali who benefit from early game dominance. It's purely a judgment call when getting elixirs over getting items. Think about the state of the game and do whatever it takes to maximize your chance of winning. This isn't always clear, but try out elixirs sometime, especially if you feel you are about to lose the game.
