Apparently HSGG stacks offense on him but you have to realize it's all-in: you have to kill faster than they can kill you, like Master Yi. I think most people (like Smash and Brees) run pure survivability on him, as his base damage output is more than sufficient to "outlast" people. IIRC Smash doesn't go puuuuuuuuuuure tank like Brees as he slots in a BR. I think you also need a pure attack speed rune page to really make use of the pure tank build, although I'm not sure Brees even bothers with one which implies the guy has sufficient innate damage to be a threat.

Yeah, and by the same mentality they play slightly different and sometimes get themselves in a bad position they wouldn't otherwise be in.

Just started playing Xin this week because he's free. Currently I'm using attack speed red and quints, armor yellow, and CDR blue and jungling with my 1/8/21 setup. Seems to be working "okay".
His item build is tricky. You want to build him tanky, but a certain amount of DPS actually increases his beefiness if it helps you kill the other guy faster. I'm currently building recursive bow into tank items, but I'm considering maybe stinger into full tank instead.
Currently using:
Q,W,Q,E,Q,R
Then R>Q>E>W
Maxing Q and E so that he gets through 2 cycles of those skills in a fight by activating W and having decent attack speed. It's quite strong.

But they're also among the best players in the game so exploiting that edge is what puts them over the top vs someone who just plays safe the whole game. Small edges add up at this level.

don't do stinger. recurve bow into LW or BR is good. but if you're jungling, you really need Madred's IMO because otherwise your jungling speed is ass. I also think you go too low without 14 in defensive, but *shrug*, whatever works for you.

I'm always itchy to get stinger because it's like the brutalizer of attack speed items because it's cheap for what it does  but yeah, I'll try 14-defense and see how that goes.

R > Q > W > E
W is a better investment, turn it on as soon as your Q finishes the knock up. E is simply needed for initation and the slow. Q is your bread and butter.
Lane Xin is better than Jungle Xin imo.

lol, stinger is not the brutalizer of AS items. Pretty sure Recurve bow is. Stinger builds into another AP item. Sure it gives you CDR but I'd give up CDR in a dead end item over more AS and a better item pathway.

No but when I say stinger into full tank I imply I am not going any further DPS item than that. I.e. I would leave recursive as recursive and that's it.
When I compare stinger to brutalizer its because it's basically a very cost-effective item (only like ~100g for 10% cdr compared to recursive) but doesn't build into anything. Similar comparison could be made between getting BF sword vs brutalizer.
The reason I like maxing E over W is so you get to use it twice in 1 cycle with W knocking cooldowns off of it. Doing 200 damage and 40% slow twice in a row is pretty nasty imo.
Lane xin is stronger than jungle xin, but I don't want to play Xin Zhao at all if I get to lane tbh.

I do the same thing as Neo, but I honestly don't think it really matters all that much one way or the other.

Man, how does the elo system even fucking work? I just had a team of all low-1400s and me at 1524 vs two 1500s, a 1600 and two high 1400s.
Our captain is the lowest elo and he gives them first pick amumu and goes on to pick mundo. 0-4 mordekaiser, 0-8 kayle, 4-8 karthus and me on jungle yi.

If you insist on going jungle Xin, 1 21 8 masteries. Wiggles, Phage, Banshee. Stinger if you want but I still it is an out of place item for your build. /shrug

ill try to clarify the xin zhao thing here
1. I never jungle with him, bad at it unless you have specialized rune page id only pick him to solo top since he rapes pretty much anyone there
2. I build pure tank until end-game, throwing in bloodrazors as 5th/6th item depending on how farmed I am. Bloodrazor is an item that scales as time goes on, mitigation is amazing early/mid game. this is why I stack tank items then finish build with bloodrazor (this is like 40 min + game tho)
3. 0-9-21 for supa lane stayin power with your passive and all that bs. its like cho gath youll never have to b until you ask some one to cover so you can buy. Basically just be really gay by charging at them, popping them up, then running away. they'll eventually have to b, or better they stay and you rape them with ghost/ignite
4. He works best as an initiator so it makes sense to build him very tanky. You only get the MR/armor bonus once you've blown your ult, so charge in, ult everyone and lol as you go around Cc'ing people to death with your absurdly low CDs due to W.

I just found out that Pantheon is still superior ~~ Just need to find out most suitable build for him. For now I start off with sword/hp into brutalizer/ghostblade, then I go for mercury, randuins/banshees + mallet.
Sounds pretty lame but works so far, lols.
