So with two of teamliquid’s favourite hobbies being chess and real-time strategy I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in/currently plays:
It’s real time chess. I know that sounds insane and to be honest, it’s a pretty crazy game. I played some high ranked guy on fast standard and he’d managed to take my entire back row while I’d being moving my pawn. I don’t think I’d ever had so much fun get my ass handed to me though.
It basically plays like you’d expect something called real-time chess to but with two features that make it playable. The first is that it takes time for your piece to move across the board, so you can move your piece out of the way if you’re fast enough. The second is a delay after making a move before you can move the same piece again, which stops you making insane suicide moves. Both lengths of time can be varied but I recommend fast standard for the true omg what the hell is going on experience.
A LONG time ago I used to play something I think was called sumochess which was exactly the same thing, but I lost the site and haven't bothered with it since. They also had a mode for a 4 player ffa in a big square where your pawn could eat their pawn and knight if they weren't fast enough it made for some crazy games.
Reading the title, I was thinking it was just chess with a timer. Seeing the demo, I can say that it is a an awesome concept. If they enhance the graphics and add sounds then games like this I am willing to buy as an indie title.
Fast standard is for the ballers. I'd assume most of us would be better at that considereing this is a starcraft forum and were more likely to have the speed than the chess knowledge.

lol i was just too slow for fast standard when i played other guy moved his bishop, and then moved it again to take my queen before i was even able to click to move my queen lol
fun game but have some big issues, latency already handles badly for a starting player like myself. The server doesnt have enough player to be animated, in one hour you know everyone and its hard to find a game. The starting step is very high

I think the lack of players and steep learning curve are kind of related. The players there are really good so new people who come just get hammered. Shame, because it's a great game and really fun when you find someone at your level to play.

Yeah I agree. I feel that this game has a lot of potential when I play it >_<... there was some nice people that were helping me get better though and I had a lot of fun even though I lost the majority of my games =P. btw I think I played you, my name was savior =D.
I'm watching QuoVadis own nbtnbt5 right now after he owned me a couple of games... It's like watching korean progamers play D rank on iccup... Soo good.. can't even kill his two knights
It's surprisingly fun ! I'm not particularly good at chess but not only is fun to watch but also to play, lol. Unfortunately, I'm from europe and I have a pretty big ping on the server, so playing against americans is kinda tough since you all guys have a very good ping and I always get owned by it (it's very important, since it's all based on speed) ... Oh well, still very fun, I'll try it later against other europeans. ^^
Lost my first 19 games straight, then started owning it up. You just have to get used to it. Don't tell anyone, but I'm doing 10/15 gate rush every game. Keke.
God this game is fun. Only had time for one game so far but it is addicting. It has a good strategical sense and a very awesome hyper sense in the game. I hope it goes far and gets put as a playstyle in some of the big chess sites.
Are there engines playing this thing... I swear either I lag but some people are able to get 5 moves at at the beginning instantly. Like i know what they will be and hypothetically if you know that you can place pieces in a good spot, but I find it impossible to get the first move in let alone the first 5 instantly (this is on playing fast standard). Likewise mating these people is ridiculous they can dodge so well. .
