never played DoTa, but I started this game last week and I'm really hooked. All players I met are mature and very friendly.
I main Ryze (I was about to main Veigar, but this week I dont have the option to choose it).
I love how they emphasize the importance of vision, and environment. Grass gives huge advantage. Beside hiding you can harass openly then quickly hide in grass giving you more opportunity to hit if they approach you. Also there's "cliffing." If you have vision outside of the border of your base or the trees surrounding you, you can cast spells and they might not be able to counter you as you can move away after you spam all your spells.
The thing i dislike is that you averagely wait at least 3 minutes before a game start.
Add me if you wanna play with me EchoesOfWar

jeez yea, you can just keep it up at all times with ability spam, can't you? In cougar form you can just pounce all the time and never have it go away and none of her human spells require targets. So it's 2235 gold for 35 damage, 32% AS and 93 AP. Shit that seems really freaking good on either build now that I think about it.
Do you ever find yourself lacking mana? It seems like nidalee needs to run through skills pretty quickly, and I don't know how much of a strain that is on her mana pool.
|
:D
You might be mana-strapped in laning stage because depending on hero composition you might have to cast heal etc. often, but after laning stage I find I never really notice it. There're times I run out of mana, but it's very rare. After all at least half the time you're running around in cougar form using free skills.
|
oh shit, cougar skills cost no mana?
Also, I guess she bursts with low CD skills plenty well enough that you could always just rape a golem if you needed mana.
|
Yep, cougar skills cost no mana. Thus my "you can upkeep perma-8 for free, you have to be really dumb to lose it when you don't need to." Switching is free, too.
In short, mid-late game all you use mana for is javelin, trap, and heal. GL running out of mana with that, hahah.
|
haha, damn, I'm liking the idea of nidalee more and more :p.
what sort of rune page/masteries do you suggest?
|
Dunno, the way I play her I go 9/0/21 (exhaust/ignite, don't care about 10 ap from mastery) and would probably run magic pen/survival/cooldown/hpquint or something. As it is I run armor pen/dodge/cooldown/hpquint but that's mostly because that's my works-for-everyone-except-casters rune set :x
Edit: By the way she's considered tier1/tier2 by most people because her burst damage is insane, she doesn't need mana, she has a great escape/chase mechanism, and because heal + attack speed buff is sick. She's definitely not a bad hero to pick and get good at ;p
|
yea... they definitely need to give us a better way to setup rune pages based on what character we're playing :p... before I really knew what I was doing I got AS/dodge/CD/CDquints. Not great, but not terrible generic rune page either. I eventually transitioned my quints to Move Speed when I was playing a speedy pantheon and that was probably a waste of IP for competitive purposes but does fit the way I like to play. I did get magic pen marks to play amumu and casters, and mana regen glyphs for sivir/pantheon, so I'm guessing I'll be running something like magic pen/dodge/CD/MS quints (or maybe bust the CD quints out again) and 9/0/21 (seems like meditation is all the mana regen you'll need with her).
Edit: yea, that's why I'm picking her up. Pantheon just isn't good enough to win with mediocre pubs and I feel like Sivir's not quite fitting my playstyle, though I tend to do pretty well with her. Nidalee seems like she can carry a mediocre team pretty well and does a lot of running around quickly and doing huge burst, which sounds like the way I like to play Pantheon.
|
Incidentally I feel you with Sivir. I keep having to play Sivir (esp when we need a 1v2 lane), but I hate playing her. I'm the type of player where if I see someone make a mistake I pounce, but with Sivir you just kinda, run at them, and then nyuh, nyuh, nyuh. And hope they die before you do. Blehhhh.

Anyone know when the weekley heros rollover?
|
Sivir early game is fun with all the focus on spell shielding and skillshotting them with your boomerang blade (I really love killing idiots who try to B near their tower with one of those sweet spot boomerangs that double hit), but yea, as the game drags out... uhg, I just want to be able to kill people for doing stupid shit.
@Cerumo: it's a little sporatic, but you can track it on the Announcement sections of their boards on LeagueofLegends.com I think. I dunno, I bought champion bundles so I'm good to go and don't pay a whole lot of attention to the free champion rotation, but you should be able to track it on their website.

I believe its' Wednesdays or Thursdays.
Will be glad to have a different caster rotation. I've actually started to get OK with Ryze, but the truth is he's just not that great. Annie's stun is simply vastly better, both because it's AoE and because it has longer range.

I have recently bought Alistar, wanting to do some major tanking. I was used to playing Cho'gath, and tanking-wise Alistar is a whole lot better.
However, I just can't seem to get any good games when playing him. So far I've went 1/8 with him, on what I guess is mid-ELO rating (I'm level 30). I just seem to end up in shitty teams, argh. When will I finally get a team that players together well?

Yea, I main Alistar, and he really seems to be a support tank more than anything else. He's meant to sneak up behind to headbutt, stun and just gank, push towers, heal and overall stay as a group. How I play him is simply farm and level up until 10 or so, making sure to play it safe. Then just start rampaging with the assists and a couple kills mid-late game by ganking from all sides. Headbutting from the behind just gives a good sense of satisfaction.
But for Bad Teams...Take initiative I guess? That's the most you can do. =/ Order them around and stuff, and hope for the best lol.

You can kill people on Sivir if you go DPS =P
As of the current patch, Ryze isn't actually that bad. Annie only has strong spikes up to mid-game without massive snowballing, while Ryze can spike for most of the game. Obviously Annie has a AoE stun, but you're rarely going to hit more than three people with it.
Many people complain about matchmaker, and I'll tell you now: You will never reliably get good players on your team, even at High Elo. If you want to win solo queuing, the easiest way is being a leader. Get your team to do dragon, and keep ganking and pushing towers. If you can't accomplish any of this, get your team together and start roaming when everyone's around level 9.
Picking a high tier hero will also help, though I honestly wouldn't recommend picking a tank or support unless you recognize at least one player on your team.
|
Playing a carry in solo queue either makes you run over the other team so hard they quit or getting super raged that nobody on your team realizes that they need to soak damage because you're the only good player and they're totally going to focus you.

Sword would probably wreck them :p. I mean, it's not like I don't get kills playing her... case in point my last game where I was 11-1-9 (I gave first blood too, LOL) and QBed the team to an easy victory. But the kills always come in team fights or because I have lizard buff AND am like 3-5 levels higher than my opponent. The fact of the matter is that she's just not built for mid-late game 1v1ing and while that's all well and good and what she's about, what I myself am about is fucking idiots up when they do something stupid.
For instance, I've started scrubbing around with tryndamere, cause I like autocritting throughout the whole game and bashing skulls in. Sure, he sucks pretty bad, but he's my style in that when someone challenges me, I get to just kill them.

I can't tell you how many games I've just wanted to kill myself because I'm the only competent player on my team and I'm stuck playing amumu. He's great and I like playing him as my tank and will play him if we desperately need a tank, but jesus tittyfucking christ, if you don't have a DPSer who can back you up, you're in for a very very miserable and infuriating game. I've managed to carry teams with amumu (ex. like 10 pages ago I posted the end screen), but it's always cause the other team is just more retarded than my own (in that game, there was a kat with 6 sunfire capes on the other team, lol).
oh and for what it's worth, I think with the treads + starks + veil opening with sivir that after a bloodthirster, last whisper is usually better than stacking another B. F. Sword if the game's dragging out.

For me, I pick Soraka when I wanna win haha. I'm Solo queue, and rather than play a carry, I turn mediocre players into unkillable beasts. I'm almost 50 wins, 10 losses with her haha.
|
Hpw could you do so good with Soraka? She seems like she needs a really good team or the other team has to be pretty incompetent. During the laning phase she's really strong, but during teamfights or small engagements she just gets focused and then your team if fucked.
