Why is blind pick silly? The teams had reasonable variety, and I think everyone had a good time. Exclusive draft, on the other hand, would mean you might not get the 10 people you need for two teams -- the number of people who play more than 2 champions competently on TL is pretty low, and most of those didn't even participate on Saturday.

Reasonable variety? Who didn't pick shen? The teams would have MORE variety with bans and picks because not everyone will be able to play their BEST champion and there will be 10 different champions being used instead of the same 2 on both teams plus 3 randoms.
Either way newer or not as good player should learn more champions rather than the two or three they feel most comfortable with.

Regarding Blind Pick vs Bans, I don't think our community skills in general is good enough to have it make too much of a difference right now. For example, our team did not have any top tier characters except for Ezrael.
Right now individual skills in community tourneys like this far outweigh champion advantage. I think half of the fun in our tourney was just getting everyone together and fostering a sense of competition.
I do think that eventually Bans may be a good idea, but right now our main focus is to get a core group of people in TL to play together and compete, and also to get the TL LoL players together. If enough people want Bans, we can definitely implement it though.
**On side note, Riot forum just said they're doing Emergency Maintenance, so it's not the patch that's (long) overdue... Damnit, why can't they maintain their servers right...

depends, sometimes they're up in 2 hours, sometimes they go overnight. if it's just a restart, it's like 2 hours.

Hohums said there has been some problem with the server side coding for the game that's causing a lot of memory leaks but today i think match making was getting backed up for some reason.
Also blitz and ashe are pretty high tier if you can hit a hook when it counts (ashe and/or tristana usually end up being banned from most tournament games on SR)
I might be biased but I just don't like blind pick, I might as well get three times as much ip by queuing matchmaking

I think that LoL needs to work a lot on optimizing client server code, as it's still really buggy if they're trying to get a solid season going. At least they're being dedicated with their games unlike other games.

well, the big issue is that they're really entrenched in adobe air at this point and it sucks. so I'd be pretty surprised if they can even realistically do anything in any sort of reasonable timeframe.
