Sivir is strong in a lane, provides decent dmg, and has an ult that wins team fights. What's not to like. Ricochet is probably her weakest ability.

Not saying she sucks, just saying she's not overpowered; she's fine as is.

She's great at pushing, but only if you let her be unharmed, because she provides nothing in combat aside from her boomerang and auto-attack pre-level 6 - you can seriously unhinge her. Even afterwards she's relatively simple to kill... I mean she's a decent support character in team fights afterwards but, bleh.

I can beat her 1v1, or at least play her to a stalemate 1v1 with even Morgana solo mid, and Morgana isn't even that great against a character like Sivir.

I played against a sivir today in a pub that mirrored my tank build with cho, it was basically warmogs + force of nature + guardian angel and a few other things, towards the end of the game it took our whole team to even damage her to the point where she would lose life and we had to do it 5v1. Otherwise I was just sitting there trying to stun her with rupture and screaming at her meaninglessly. She ran in, tanked our inhibitor tower and got our inhibitor to quarter life before we killed her, but because it was so late we had more than a minute before she respawned and we pushed their middle and bottom while our warwick solo'd baron.

Sivir is sometimes really hard to kill.

I always build Sivir as an crazy fragile killing machine. I only get minimal tanking gear and usually rely on killing everything in sight and life leach to stay alive, lol.

Anyway, I've primarily been playing Morgana, Sivir, and occasionally Soraka/Janna. I love these chars, but I'm looking to get another one to be good with.

In people's opinions, what champions are really powerful if played well, but require a good bit of skill? What champs would play differently from what I'm used to running?

Thanks!

Most heroes would play differently, 'cause you've only been playing support heroes ;p

Probably the most extreme opposite would be a ganker, like Shaco or something... and almost every hero ends up looking scary if they're well-farmed/fed, so... :x

they all take some skills

Like for vegar, my favorite char, its the stun + aoe spell combo that require a lot of skills. if u do it good its amazing

i think the new hero nidale require a lot of skills, 2 form, 7 spells, when to switch, how to switch ...

How bad is LoL nowadays? I haven't played in a while due to HoN and Maestro simply doesn't work.

Is it still imbalanced skillless garbage?

yeah but dota wasn't anything different, totally used to it

dude is right about veigar, i love that hero, and i hope they dont nerf the soulstealer... I wasn't buying that before and I just started too, o-m-g I rape twice as hard with it. 500 ability before 30 minutes? weeeeee

that said, alistar is a tricky hero to play well but once you get it down it never changes.

i noticed ashe is useless unless someone good is playing her

I have been starting to play nasus a bit. my crit damage runes work surprisingly well with him(trying to find other chars to play besides shaco, yi, etc.)

its pretty fun chasing people around and whacking them with your stick lol.

if you want a super easy carry hero, i suggest ashe. I've been getting pretty good results with her at my elo range (whatever that is). just enter battles a few seconds later, and most people will ignore you, allowing you to basically build yourself as pure damage.

my current build, esp if you have +crit dmg runes
avarice blade
avarice blade
boots (upgrade into greaves)
infinity edge
bloodthirster
last whisper

you basically W to initiate team battles, turn on Q, right click on squishiest champion in range (preferably their carry), right click on something else when target dies, R when opportune.

At higher levels you start seeing huge divides in Ashe player skill levels ;p (Most Ashe players stink)

My preference for building her is

Health Runes
Philosopher's Stone
Berserker's
Madred's Razor

then I mix together a combo of Zeal->Dancer, -> Bloodrazor, Malady/Starks/Executioner, and Banshee, depending on how the game's going and what's most likely to kill me.

Health runes are required for her IMO because she's by far the most brittle "carry" hero in the game - without, you tend to get 3-shot by most heroes (Annie, Yi, Trynd, etc.) and whilst the 400-500 from runes doesn't seem like that much, any bit that helps keep you alive/make you die less quickly is good.

Edit:
This is obviously more of a roving gank/support Ashe with a good bit of DPS mixed in. The summoner skills I tend to bring are Clair/Teleport with 9/0/21 mastery (4 cooldown from offense - 9% cooldown from the double mastery is nice). When I go farming Ashe I switch up to get Smite+ and bring Smite + Tele/Rally, going Cleaver/Whisper and Bloodthirster, but I feel like roving Ashe is much "better" for your team. If you're going to simply sit and farm and carry you're honestly better off playing DPS Jax or Yi or Trynd IMO.

A reasonably common build I've seen on good Ashe/Trist players that I think is pretty damn effective is beginning the game with lvl 1 boots + 3 hp pots while relying on Liz buff for any early harrasment to control the solo lane. After this they usually rush the Infinity Edge after and buy an elixir with it. This + Crit dmg runes makes you a beast. Other than that the most cookie cutter build out there is Philsoph stone --> berserker greaves --> Last Whisper/Infinity Edge

If you are going Ashe, Trist or any other ranged carry aside from sivir always go Infinity Edge ASAP.

Ignore Phil Stone. Yes you will be low on mana early. If its unbearable then get a mana potion. Payback items usually take around 7 minutes to turn around cost. All its doing is slowing down your progress towards an Inf Edge

1) Go Vampric Scepter to open. Dont come off lane unless you absolutely need to until you get 4080 gold.
2) Get Inf Edge. Now you should be ~lvl 6/7 and deal a ton of damage. Go hunt a squishy hero off your recall.
3) Get Malady.

Past this your item selection needs to be hero dependent.
-If they have a lot of explosive spells, go for more crit chance. If you take down one mage quickly and prevent a nuke odds are the rest of their mages will be just short of kills on all their nukes.
-If they have a strong twitch/teemo stack attack speed and life steal.
-If they have a bunch of tanks with nice armor items, go last whisper.

Fast Edge has never worked too well for me - the damage increase from it is nice but Ashe's lack of a DPS skill doesn't make straight-carrying very effective (unless the other team has absolutely no straight carries) with her, IMO. Might just be a playstyle difference through *shrugs*

On a related note, what do you all think of the gold passive? I have a habit of getting as much of it as fast as I can, especially if I'm farm-carrying, but I've kinda noticed I see games ending with me only having about 150 creep kills (including Neutrals) if I go Bloodrazor ganking...

There's no way you're going to farm a full Infinity from one trip, that's kinda ridiculous to advocate. While I'm typically against boots first builds, Korean (one of the top Trist players) does go boots first with 3 pots. Your first trip back ideally should be to get your BF Sword. If for whatever reason you're forced back earlier than that, upgrade your boots to greaves and get 1-2 pots. It's vital that as your teams physical ranged DPS, that you go as much pure damage as possible. imo, there's no better build on a phys DPS than Infinity first.
An exception is if you're Twitch and you have some crit runes, two Avarice Blades are a nice investment. Gank well, 2 Ava + a BF Sword, you can melt faces in level 9-11 team fights with SnP in the back.

Avoid getting Bloodrazors on ranged DPS. Razors in general are great for farming and control neutrals. Leave that to champions like Shaco, Udyr, and Warwick. They will control Dragon, the 4 sigils, and eventually Baron for your team. Phys DPS should go pure damage and some survivability if needed (e.g. Mallet or Banshee).

- Philo stone builds are outdated. If you really want survivability first, get a Catalyst first. The level up bonus and the building block towards Banshee makes it a good investment for a carry.
- Leech life is typically not needed, but if you want, just stick with Vamp Scepter and leave it at that. After Infinity, Armor Pen is needed, so go for Last Whisper. LW gives you the IAS that Malady would but at a better bang for your buck.

Lastly, here's a VOD of Korean playing as Trist.

Maybe it's just the people I play with, but why do you say this? I find BR one of the best (if not the best) DPS items in the game, regardless of the 500/proc Razor effect prior to completing it. And as opposed to most of the other DPS items it's got standalone capabilities, as it gives you damage AND attack speed... plus obv. if you go Dragon/Rune pre-BR it saves you time.

I also don't know if Catalyst is that great for solo mid characters... costs 300 more than Stone too, plus however many potionsx35 you'll need to counter harassment. I believe stone is 22/10 per 5 tick, so if were to say you level once every two minutes you're looking at a comparison of 300/225 (Cat) to 528/240 (Stone) (+31/+14 with Mastery) in between levels. I tried switching between Cat-first and Grasp-first with Annie solo mid before and I honestly hardly felt a difference between the two - I ended up opting for Cat-first because of the max hp increase against certain heroes, but the mana regen was the same. Same goes for Ashe, but I kinda like the superior health regen over the max hp. I can try running Cat-first to compare I guess...

I was just recommending a philsoph stone opening since he is newer and opening Sapphire Crystal can be risky. Ive tore through many Ashe who open that way and have no regen to last in the lane or just end up getting outfarmed from being pushed to tower.

Razer's only add dps when fighting a tank while with an Infinity you hit everyone hard no matter what. Even when ive bought it as Teemo it still seems like i was doing more dmg with my IE either way since of MR reducing procs.
