Regarding carrying a lesser skilled team to victory, how would Mundo and Jax fare at that on SR? I have no doubt that they can do it on TT. Mundo is a beast on TT, at least. I'm often running around with 2k to 3k gold, because I often simply don't need to shop after I've gotten my Spirit visage and t2 boots. Mundo barely needs gear to do his job on TT, gear only makes him slaughter more. Also, thanks for the fast and elaborate response regarding Rupture and dealing with Teemo ![]() Edit: On May 17 2010 16:13 InsideTheBox wrote: So I've been wondering; what's the consensus on "dead end" items like the Doran's items. I don't know whether there is a consensus on Doran's items, some despise them because they build into nothing. I personally find them more useful on Twisted Treeline than on Summoner's Rift, because people start fighting right from level 1 on, so one greatly benefits from the short-term boost they provide. On SR, I like Doran's shield on some champions to be able to stay in lane, and have the extra health as a cushion against burst damage. On Annie for example, since she isn't too mana hungry with disintegrate last hitting, and with runes and masteries, one has enough mana regeneration anyway. On champions who get Warmog's, like Cho'Gath, I just get a regrowth pendant. But then, regrowth pendant is pretty standard for Cho'Gath on SR, or at least it should be. Why some would take a meki pendant is beyond me, I'd rather be low on mana than low on health. At least with low mana and high health, one can safely eat a few minions to refill one's mana. But I guess with a pendant, you can spam rupture and an early taken scream more to kill minions.

They're nice on Shaco because he has a 100% chance of crit via Deceive, but hardly necessary, and said heroes like Trynd Gang etc. are much better off served building either armor pen or, more useful, crit chance %. Jax is very strong but you tend to need a team to funnel you (with heals etc.) or else you'll think "wow this hero isn't as strong as everyone makes him out to be!", but if you have like Shen Soraka Zilean you'll be like WOOOOOOOOOH POWERRRRRRRR. In both cases though it's a bit tougher to say now than a couple weeks ago. As I mentioned before, the metagame on SR is shifting from AoE teamfights to "mobility is good." With less AoE spam and 5v5 clusterfucks it's made a lot of melee heroes far more viable, to the point where some think some melee heroes have been overbuffed (see: Jax, Yi). To that end Mundo's biggest problem, which is his inability to tank, may have been trumped by his mobility via his ult. I can't give you a definitive answer, though. Two weeks ago I woulda said Mundo is terribad, because he can't tank and so he'll die trying to build attack speed, as he needs to be built. He's still got great synergy with Soraka, though.

Doran's blade is trash, you're always better off getting doran's shield unless you're doing a blade stacking build (which I don't like anyway, but it's legit). Shield and Ring are both great early laning items. I open Shield A LOT on squishy characters for the same reason I do 9/21/0 and 0/21/9 with most carries. You typically have plenty of damage output in your own right and it's more important to not get 2 shotted early.

Ring is nice because it gives you HP + mregen + AP, it's the one item of the three you can stack and still turn out okay. It's like Bracers in DotA. Blade sucks. The 1% lifesteal gives you nothing (lifesteal sucks early game, too), and the damage doesn't build into anything (much better to buy longsword and two pots).

1 Blade sucks because lifesteal is terribad early, but I see the power in stacking blades. 3 Blades = 1305 gold = 12% lifesteal, 18 damage, 360 HP, which is like having a vampiric scepter (450 gold), almost 2 longswords (747 gold at longsword's damage/cost rate), and 2 ruby crystals (950 gold) = 2147 value in tier 1 items. That's pretty good efficiency early, so I think it makes a lot of sense on ranged carries who suck at farming, which I guess is really just twitch, but yea, I think it's pretty good on twitch :p.

Ring pretty much is clearly better than Meki at the moment, unless you're building Meki into something. Personally I'll take it for Fiendish Codec sometimes, but yeah. I wouldn't stack Blade on Twitch because you desperately need to farm up actual damage as fast as possible. ^-- but we have been overt his before so mweh.

Also blade is more useful as the game goes on, whereas shield decreases in usefulness as the lane phase passes. Small, small issue, but worth considering. I know blade has got me a kill where shield would have got me killed more than once.

I dunno, I get what you're saying now that regrowth is buffed, but I still think shield + pot works out better unless you're going to do something with that regrowth pendant later. I think Doran's items get a penalty to their resale value- I usually start out with a Regrowth Pendant and sell it later on for 75% of its cost and get a Vampiric Scepter when my damage is high enough to make it better, but I only get around 50% of the cost back when I sell a Doran's shield iirc.
