yea, I guess I agree to that.
Ghostblade feels like an upgrade to brutalizer DFG feels like an upgrade to Codex Omen feels like an upgrade to HoG
I dunno, I guess I haven't played Amumu in so long that I really don't know if my double HoG build is viable or worthwhile at higher ELOs, but when I stopped playing him I was doing something like:
cloth armor + 4 health pots for jungling work to 2 HoG boots -> merc treads Abbysal Scepter and then generic tanking shit from there, usually spirit visage or FoN or Sunfire Cape or Frozen Heart.
So then this opens up another option post Scepter of spending ~2K to lose the income off of a HoG and in return get: 100 Health 63 Armor 25 HPp5 15% CD redux 20% chance to slow by 35% on getting hit An Active Frost Nova type thingie that'll work for ~2 seconds with the amount of Armor Magic Resist you have.
The benefits off of the recipe over just Warden's Mail is 100 HP, 3 Armor, 15% CD redux, and the active ability.
Off the top of my head, I can't really decide if this is worth it or not, but I at least think it merits consideration, especially when paired with Spirit Visage for affordable and massive health regen and a lot of CD reduction. If you're not already getting HoG though, I agree that it's simply too expensive. By getting your HoG early, you essentially soften the cost's blow by anywhere between 300 and 600, depending on how highly your prioritize completing it, which makes it much more attractive.

Actually DFG stands alone, IMO: the effect of DFG is unbelievably strong, as it adds another level 5 nuke to a caster's arsenal. You either see people make DFG, or see people simply not make any of its components (unless it builds into something else).
On a pure nuker like Veigar (and to an extent Annie) I happily go for DFG. It just happens to use Codex as one of its items, as a stepping stone.
Edit: Worded another way, when I consider something an upgrade over another item, it means I'm content sitting on that lower-tier item for a bit of time, because it works as its own sufficient item. When rushing DFG, though, I don't think anyone is content "sitting on Codex." You make Codex because it's required, then immediately make DFG as soon as you have the money to do it.
For instance, Zeal, Brutalizer, those stuff I'm willing to make, then sit on for a bit while I tend to other needs.

I semi-frequently see people sit on Codex for awhile while they build RoA or something, then finish their DFG. *shrugs*, I agree that DFG is a cut above the others, but I think they're pretty clearly designed to be a cycle (Gp5 item + low-mid level item = new item in the 2500-3000 range that gives CD reduction and an Active ability) and sitting on codex is certainly viable.

Can anyone give some in depth advice for Annie? I'd like to start playing her since I haven't touched casters for a while except for Fiddle.

Hmm, well I feel like Codex itself is such a low-impact item that it's not worth sitting on, but that's just me :D

Not sure if it trumps BC/BFSword in terms of importance, but it'd certainly beat out Zeal possibly Cata->Veil as 4th/5th item, which you can reach in 40-50-minute games. It's also a superior third item on Twitch, and I can see Trists bringing it (they farm so fast anyways).
Edit: I don't even see Rammus bring Warden, and I don't think Omen is better than Warden by a good enough amount to make it "worthwhile." Honestly, I struggle to see Omen being of ANY use, right now. Well, I was thinking more along the lines of upgrading it from HoG, but Rammus has taunt and his passive, which makes it potentially worthwhile. Maybe Shen's taunt could make it useful, too. Also, Mordekaiser tends to run a lot of items similar to this... but yeah, I agree, it's pretty expensive for a dubious effect.
I guess the new passive is like Tristana's Q skill for any champion that buys a brutalizer, which potentially turns Ashe into a sick DPS while she farms. I think you'd probably grab LW a bit later if that was the case, maybe after your first BF sword?

Men I want to play some of these new heroes so bad. But they are so expensive :S The ninjas seem so cash. A tank Ninja and the cute assassin. Also the Mordekasier guy has the best model in LoL. How good is he in high ELO play?
I own Corki, Rammus, Twisted, Fiddle and Veigar. What are considered the higher tier heroes nowadays? is TF still S+ after the change?

I'm not a high level player, so I can't speak for high lvls of play, but I think TF is still a very strong hero. Fiddle and Rammus are solid, Corki I don't see often enough in play to make a good judgement, and I think Veigar is alright.

Every time I see this topic, I want to play again. But I want to play with decent people and I don't like playing my way up the ladder just to play against people who might put up a challenge at me. My Summoner's level 13 right now and the game is just boring :[
