savior will go down as the most badass player in sc history ever

"Savior was sentenced to one year in prison (this sentence has been suspended for 2 years; sentencing occurred in May 2010)."
What does this mean? Is this the equivalent to "auf Bewährung" in german?
|
it means he got sentenced jail time of 1 year, but that time was commuted for 2 years. meaning in may of 2012 he will go to jail for 1 year. Seeing as he was a middle man not just a person throwing games it's somewhat understandable that he would get some jail time not a lot but some 1 year seems like a bit much but i guess it depends on how much money was made from this which i doubt was alot alot.

Ok thanks for the explanation. I don't know how it is in Korea, but in austria there is the possibilty, that if you commit a crime, the sentence can be suspended "auf bewährung", which means that a prison-sentence can be suspended for a certain time (mostly used for "smaller" crimes and persons without priors), and if you don't do anything during your "bewährung" you wont have to go to jail at all, kind of like the most serious kind of warning.
Sounds weird to me, that he will know for 2 years, that he will go to prison no matter what he does. Is there no possibility for him to avoid prison at that point?
Edit: Apart from that, really awesome article! As someone who only got into the scene more recently, it is very interessting to read such write-ups. Of course I knew who savior was but this kind of concise write up is great (I really enjoy those kind of articles, similar to "best of past tsls" and "greates BW games of each year" - I think that at the moment you can still see the huge differnce between the games because SC2 lacks 2 expansions to be finished and is not played out like BW so far).

Is there a bigger version of the picture of Savior in the OP with that staff or whatever he has so I can use it as a wallpaper? If you link me one i'll love you long time.

This is really inspiring, too bad you couldn't release this earlier due to the scandal. It takes nothing away from his accomplishments though
마재윤상환!! (probably wrong, best I could do )

I second this, purely stopped being a lurker and registered to ask for a wallpaper of this. Amazing, inspiring picture to me.

So Idra used to be on team CJ Entus right? DO you think he's secretly training with Savior!?!?!?!?!
Besides that, do you think Savior's tactics are even teachable or does it depend too much on mind state and natural talents? Hydra from CJ Entus is sticking to broodwar, is there still money in the bw scene? Why do you think players do not switch to sc2?

surprises people are actually still intersted in that old game
omg how much time has been wasted with this threat

SC2 is too unstable. BW is more stable. Players not willing to risk going out. Plus they get pretty deal with the money by their team. And BW give them "celebrity power" that SC2 can't offer (because OSL/MSL have more people going to watch it live) and of course, BW is just a better game.

its the same thing that your referring to. if he doesnt do anything bad within the 2 years he will not go to jail as stated in other articles. strange that this article doesn't make it clear but w/e

In Korea, there's far more money to be made in BW as a pro.

So many oblivious responses.. head hurting, although:

The SC2 paradigm was based on fluidity and army movement.
Note that the main point of RTS is controlling points and dictating the flow of the game.
However given peoples distaste for turtle strategies, Browder decided to tip this upside down. Nerfing Tanks, removing Lurkers, Reavers, Defilers, and bringing in Warp Gate, Immortal, Baneling and Marauder that can destroy contains easily and instantly.
Unfortunately without the ability to control the map properly nor dictate the flow of the game, you have to move your army around the map in 1 big ball because even having 8 marauders on flight to a drop can mean your main army gets torn to pieces. This means people don't want to attack and what you get is an army balling around for 15 mins gradually increasing in size till 200/200 and then there is a sudden clash and its all over.
Many of Saviors tactics heavily involved abusing zergs ability to instantly zone off sections of the map using Lurkers or Defilers. So when a Terran army moves out, he can instantly wedge his lurkers in-between his army and his base. It's a win-win for Savior.
The Terrans first reaction is to immediately go back and defend, in which case he will lose his entire army while still losing his base. If he doesn't do that he can attack, but he still loses his base and all reinforcements, after the confusion settles Savior already has ample time to bring out Defilers and defend himself.
In SC2 a backstab would often just turn into a base trade. However with the ability to zone off sections of the map, you can do a backstab with most of your army and still have all your bases completely in tact. This is why squad based play is so prevalent in BW, its actually often inefficient to have your whole army together.
Logically it doesn't make sense for SC2 to turn out like BW in 10 years time (if the same unit design continues), the paradigm is too different, maybe even if it turns into something great, it won't be anything like BW.
Every once in a while you find a gem amongst the trash. The reason certain things don't work is because siege tanks and lurkers are too strong with the new and improved AI. That's one of the main reasons lurkers were left out of WoL, other than the lame excuse of roaches overlapping their role, which is a really big cop out after you read this article by Ver. I believe Blizzard has been working very hard on making lurkers work considering they have multiple purposes. There is a reason you would see them in every game except for ZvZ. I still think such units can slow down armies and help improve the flow of SC2. We'll have to wait and see to find out.
