Does anyone know whether he has a smurf account he's using to practice on? It seems odd, even for Stephano, to practice so little before what will likely be the most important tournament of the year (for Stephano). I think it seems exactly like Stephano. After he won IPL 3 he didn't play like at all until MLG Orlando, I guess he just wants to get the losses out of his head and collect himself.

He says he was overconfident in Game 1 vs. Polt and just a-moved because he thought the game was over. This is really disappointing to hear because that game was his, and had he beaten Polt, he just had to win 1 ZvZ match against Sheth and 1 ZvT match against KawaiiRice to make it into pool play, both of which were easy matches compared to Polt. Seeing the group Kawaii was placed in, Stephano had a good shot at securing a great finish. I'm not sure about his answer for Game 3 v.s Polt, though. He said Polt played a style he never used - marauder hellion all-in - but I think I saw Polt use that style vs. Stephano before. But it was always when Stephano was himself all-inning with roach ling baneling, so I guess Stephano thought that Polt was reacting to him. But he wasn't, I think - Polt was preparing to all-in those games. Analyzing replays carefully helps a lot here ![]() Against Inori... Stephano sounded devastated about his match against Inori. In the LR thread I said that Stephano's run was the most disappointing run of high-profile foreigners in MLG, and it sounds like he himself thinks this too. His analysis of the match was that Inori coin flipped with super greedy nexus first builds and took advantage of him not scouting. Going forward, it sounds like he's going to try to play safer and not over-cut corners. The interviewer went into Lone Star Cup to cheer him up a bit at the end, which is nice of him. I think this MLG has been a great learning experience for Stephano but, at the same time, it's horrible for his confidence towards continuing to play SC 2. IPL has to be good, now, and I hope he really does do well there. The foreigner's scene needs players like Stephano.

That's kind of crazy but not too unexpected. He said he doesn't have to practice but everyone benefits from a little practice at least. I'm hoping he'll buckle down soon and start practicing.

1. First game vs Polt, he got tricked into thinking he could A-move and he did. Polt laid a great trap. 2. Second game was near perfect, I didn't see a flaw, but only saw it live. He handled harass immaculately with infestor/roach/ling. 3. Third game, he just didn't scout and he trusted his instincts, he was wrong. Polt tricked him twice basically, once to all out attack in game 1, and in game 3 with the build MVP used to beat him in Blizzard cup. During that game I hoped he'd catch on, but he got locked into the wrong idea. 4. He lost to Inori through similar lack minds game like he did via Polt. His lack of early game scouting cost him again. 5. As a reactionary player, the drastic jump in levels from NA players to KR GM's hurt him. He was unable to get into a groove.... as he is so capable of. He reads the tea leaves, so its hard when he plays randoms because it breaks his reactions in a sense. He needs to scout more early game, especially in short series. 6. He didn't practice in the days before MLG. He didn't get outplayed, but he was barely out thought perhaps. Making key mis-reads in tough Bo3's. Basically, mind gamed by TSL. Which is no excuse, winning is all that matters and that's going to happen, but hopefully he's right and being in groups at IPL will make all the difference. No doubt the KR crowd will have new tricks for him, he remains a target. Game 2 vs Polt was a beautiful show of zerg, pity it'll be lost under the MLG cloud.

His known opponents so far are White-Ra and MKP. White-Ra knows him well, and is going to prepare special taktiks. I can't see White-Ra going into this match playing like he always does because he knows how many times he's lost to Stephano doing that. Stephano has to go into it thinking White-Ra is going to do weird builds. MKP is also going to prepare, since he's a top Korean Terran and they don't go into matches unprepared, but strategically MKP is a wild card and you never know whether he's going to cheese, macro, etc. I don't think his style is going to change, however - he's going to exploit his micro and play aggressively. MKP is a very challenging opponent for Stephano, as he stomped DRG and has a better sense of how to be aggressive than Polt. He's also got a losing record vs. Stephano so he is going to be looking for revenge. Stephano stands to gain a lot from taking a look at the MKP vs. DRG replays. I don't know how Stephano prepares for tournaments, but though he's seeded into IPL, it's going to be his greatest challenge yet in terms of the caliber of players he's going to face. The format is a lot better for him, but the opponents are not.

So next time, he will be more carefull, so that's a good experience for him. And he said that he's going to qualify for the next MLG arena to get ( to try ) in pool play for next MLG championship, so another good news. ps : he's very confident before playing MKP, i hope that he's not going to get smashed, since he doesn't follow the scene, he thinks that Polt is some genius TvZ.

Ha, I was thinking the same thing. MKP is much better at tvz than Polt although Stephano previously has had some success against him.
