I don't understand this. There's no way Stephano did not play against these builds before. DTs are a standard cheese, hit very late, and a lot of Protosses don't think they're worth it because Zergs defend them so well. 6 gate is - well that's just a 2 base all-in and Stephano is known for holding those off.
No idea how this happened at all. Need an interview.
korean 6 gate could be something he just don't have enough experienced with?
Definitely not; his build was pretty secured, of course he had to rely on his impeccable micro to make it work, but it worked almost always perfectly. He 4-0'd JYP a few days ago really convincinly. I don't know what has happened, I have no clue
Anyway, he was due to face Polt (again) 2 rounds after this... thanks MLG for their US-favored system I guess..

Are you upset they dont hand out Code S seeds to Assembly summer winners too?
... if you don't know stephano have a code s spot but he refuse because it's stupid to stay few mounth to koreaz just for one competition where you can lose very quickly !

He said that even if he had won all of his matches after losing to Polt he would have had to face him again (Idra faced him and Stephano would have faced Idra)

They had qualifiers though, but Stephano chose to play Assembly instead which he probably doesn't regret seen as he cam second there.
Under the old system sure MLG open bracket was pretty ridiculous but this year players from all continents had plenty opportunities to qualify for the Arena.

The Stephens build is solid, yes but that's almost how most Korean Zerg plays their zvp from what i see from gsl. DRG for example
The win/lose seems to just be about that one engagement with forcefields and positioning. Or it could be the toss took an even more aggressive style of 6 gating.
I haven't seen stephano zvp against Korean toss very often and I do think that it could be not as insane good as we think he is. I mean at least not like the 80%ish win rate against foreigners anyway.

I think Stephano wasn't very determined after his defeat vs Polt. Nobody in all the previous mlg made it to the top 8 after losing a game in the open Bracket. Stephano is interested only in the victory or at least top4, doing something like top16, even in a very difficult tournament, doesn't interest him at all. He knew it was almost impossible to make it throught the loser bracket and even more for him who don't like to play lts of games in a row.

This style works well vs foreigners because they don't have the mechanics to keep up. However, Koreans will always punish him when he makes a bunch of expansions/drones with no support. I'm sure he'll keep improving, He has a lot of potential
How do you know how he played against Inori since the games weren't broadcast? The only game that I saw he played really greedy in was game 3 against Polt. He apparently had no idea what Polt was going and just gambled that he was not going for the all in build he went for. Polt in turn played just as greedily and blind countered Stephano's build. Polt had lost doing that same build twice in previous games because Stephano went for roaches.
Also, Stephano has beaten plenty of Koreans recently including Inori and Polt, so let's tone down the unsupported generalizations based on a single tournament.
edit: Added "not" in from of "going for".

Stephano is completely and totally chill. He took lots of time for autographs and pictures with fans this weekend. Hard not to love the guy

I am a Stephano fan but honestly i believe that Polt is smarter, i am talking in term of psychological warfare, outside of the game. He's a foxy guy, Stephano get easily flattered and he knows that's his weakness, i would be curious to see/ear their exchange oustide the scene. You know, :"keep your ennemy close". When Polt says stephano is a Genius, keep in mind that he might be one of the rare proplayer that has been selected in a very high ranked university. Just tell me how would you take compliment from someone that goes to the equivalent of Harvard and is a top sc2 progamer?
One more thing, Inori and Polt are very good and old friends. I didn't see the Inori vs Stephano games where Stephano lost but I can't stop myself speculating about those coincidences.
sry for the mistake in my english.

Funny, beause he wasn't that friendly at ESWC. I guess he likes international fans better.. mainly because they don't speak french :d ( french fans can be a bit annoying about Stephano )

Does anyone know if Stephano plan to play the MLG Invite-only Online Qualifiers ? Could be nice for him to play the next MLG spring Championship from the pool.
Too hard to get out of the open bracket ! Still sad that he loose against Inori i'd really like to see him against IDRA, anyway:
Gl hf for IPL 4 !

You forget that JYP tried to take third bases against Stephano in every single game. Imho a mistake a mistake nobody should make. Several broadcasted matches have shown that third bases don't work against Stephano in ZvP. They just don't. Stephano is always able to kill the protoss straight up or at least cripple him beyond any possible comeback while safely taking a forth sometimes fifth base and teching to hive.
While Stephano is also very good at holding 2 base all-ins these seem to be the only realistical chance to beat him. Anybody can fall against All-Ins whereas nobody seems to stand a chance against Stephano in a macro PvZ.

i need more stephano stream!

Polt gets his revenge. Someone explain to me how they ALWAYS meet up before the finals somehow.

That's quite interesting. Idra stated that it is the wrong way to play 2base allins because stephano knows all the timings to the drone. Not saying that he is right, it just shows that Stephano is solid in every phase of the game. But I am still confused how he could lose to Inori ...

Lack of motivation would probably be the right answer. I'd say losing to Polt, especially the way it happened (first game was basically won and yet he managed to lose), plus the perspective to play a lot of difficult matches in the losers bracket for an uncertain result (well more like certain bad result actually, as usual top8 was only pool players right ?) may have been enough to kill his motivation. And an unmotivated Stephano can play surprisingly bad...

So what's the next step? IPL4? or there's something in between?
