Checking match history, Stephano lost to a DT build and a 6 gate.
I don't understand this. There's no way Stephano did not play against these builds before. DTs are a standard cheese, hit very late, and a lot of Protosses don't think they're worth it because Zergs defend them so well. 6 gate is - well that's just a 2 base all-in and Stephano is known for holding those off.
No idea how this happened at all. Need an interview.

How do you know what builds he lost to by looking at his match history? O.o

You have to have him added, then you can see the build orders.

ah I was hoping Stephano would win, but at least I got to get my ass kicked by him in the open bracket

I do have him added since he's in my division and I looked at both games, forgot you can see build orders in match history.. silly me! ;D

I hope Polt will crush Idra, i like this little guy !!

Was hoping he'd perform better at MLG. I always hear Stephano hyped but he is never at the tournaments I watch.

If Stephano doesn't do well at IPL he will retire at the end of the year. Just think about that. His career is on the line at the next tournament.
|
I think Stephano needs to work on being a more complete player. He has skills but he plays very greedy. This style works well vs foreigners because they don't have the mechanics to keep up. However, Koreans will always punish him when he makes a bunch of expansions/drones with no support.
I'm sure he'll keep improving, He has a lot of potential
|
he's still doing reasonably well and is one of the best foreigners, no reason for him to retire at this stage unless he doesn't want pro gaming to be his future goal.

He just needs to work harder, keep training and imo go back to the oGs house. He's already really good but being really good doesn't mean you win every tournament or even most tournaments. He's not Flash, no one in Sc2 is.
Even the absolute elite of Sc2 -- DRG, MVP, MMA, Nestea, MC have only won around 4-6 tournaments each in 18 months of competitive Starcraft. No one can win every tournament if you win 2-3 major LAN's in a year you have done extremely well for yourself.
If Stephano wins two tournaments this year from MLG, IPL, Assembly, Dreamhack, IEM, GSL and places reasonably at a few too that would be a really successful 2012 for him and likely place him amongst the top 5-10 in the world for 2012 success.
People expecting Stephano (or anyone else) to win every LAN or even half of the LAN's they attend are insane, there's way too many great players all capable of beating each other for any player to pull that off right now.
MVP won around 20-30% of the tournaments he played in in 2011 and he was judged to have been easily the most successful and best player by some way.

I feel that people are too much into his statements about retiring/school. Imagine it from his perspective:
You're 18 years old, just finished high school and at an age where your peers will be moving on to university. However, you are very good at this game, and are able to win some online tournaments for some money. You tell your parents that you'll take a year off from school (not that unusual, tbh) to pursue your passion and try your hand at pro gaming. I'm sure this sounds crazy to most parents, but they are consoled by the fact that their son is winning surprising amounts of money and getting paid trips around the world for competitions.
So half a year later, you've won over 100k, and it's time to reassess your situation. Do you continue to defer your post-secondary education to game professionally? This depends a lot on your ability to stay competitive with the other top players, which can be tested during major competitions such as these. If you are, then doing this for another year seems reasonable. If not, then you move on and go to school like most people do at your age.
I see the situation as someone who is simply trying to make reasonable, intelligent choices about their life/career choices.

No, you need to play in the related tournaments though.
Are you upset they dont hand out Code S seeds to Assembly summer winners too?

korean 6 gate could be something he just don't have enough experienced with?

You just can not always win. We all saw him fending of plenty of korean 6 gates(only mc seemed to have his number) and I personally never ever saw stephano losing to a dt build, although I watch very much stephano stream/tournament games. But one loss in a bo3 can be caused by plenty of things. For example he had some drama with millenium's manager this week. Maybe one of his biggest strenghts -his mindset- was not in the best shape this time. Maybe he was on a college party the day before and was hangover(i would prefe this one :D). Another factor is that he always had kinda bad feelings for the mlg system. That troubles ones mindset too. In fact I think the open bracket system shouldn't be that bad for stephano since he is one of the only players that can play 30 games on ladder without losing a single one, so saying that playing many games in a row doesn't suit him is pretty stupid. But when one somehow still thinks it's not good for him it means that he will not be able to play his best. Anyway, we gotta get over it, it is not the last tournament he plays in and most likely not even the last mlg(he wants to retire in september if he retires->so still two mlgs possible at least+2 arenas)

Im very sad stephano lost, but i feel this might help his zvp... He was like u only need to do 1thing to beat P now someone has beaten him and pointed out the flaws of his build this will only make him stronger players as he tweaks his build even more.
