Hmm.. interesting posts on this fanclub, just a passerby browsing. (I can't really call myself a fan or an "antifan", but was curious what happens in this club after the events at IEM).

But, don't you fellas think you're bashing the other side a bit too hard? I see posts here and there about "fakers" and "antifans" and such and such hating on Naniwa because they're stupid / cowardly / mainstream. And, while it's true there are people like that, (especially you, reddit), there are some of us who were genuinely annoyed that we got gimped on a potentially really awesome series.

Polt vs Naniwa, before IEM, anybody would have to admit this was gonna be one helluva match. Both have been playing since WoL and have had huuge success, and hell, this match had a foreigner in it, the only one in the brackets. So many things to look forward to, so much hype, so much expectations.

And what did Naniwa do to us hopeful people? Not only did he not put up a good show, he didn't put up a show at all. Excuse some of us if we express genuine disappointment and disapproval (like TB), it's not to hate on Naniwa because of his character and BM, but because he let us fans down. We're not sitting here frothing at the mouth, hopping on the hate train. We're just sad / frustrated that he has absolutely no regard for the audiences' hopes and desires.

What could he have done? If he didn't practice and didn't care, why bother playing at all? Look at the potential players who could have filled his spot if he had forfeited his spot instead of wasting a potential good match- Jaedong, Hyun, Dear, hell- Leenock even. Any of these players would have given it their all, and even if they went down 3-0, it would have been a good show. But Polt winning 1-0, that's just painful to think about in a tournament as large as IEM.

I'll take my leave, knowing some of you will simply bash that I'm criticizing Naniwa in his own fanclub, but the point is, there are genuine people out there who have good reason to be at least a little frustrated with Naniwa and think "good riddance" after all of this. If you guys are generalizing every single one of us as "haters" and "cowards", then are you really that much better?

First off, I hope you read this, because im not gonna bash your post, I'm simply gonna show you my hand.
Secondly, I wanna stress that your post is nothing but a post about disappointment, and a clarification going with it. I would never call that hate! No one will. Even in the fan club.
I am not gonna try to convince you that what he did was right, but in the end, the tournament allowed for this to happen, so if it happens, it's an okay move. Therefore he has my support. He did not want to play, and he checked with the tournament crew if he could forfeit, then by all means forfeit. People can express disappointment and disapproval all they want, Naniwa is Ok with that, he has stated that he doesn't care what people think. But when pure hatred comes along, then there's the limit.
You are missing the point entirely if you believe that you who are "genuinely annoyed" is the target of the comments here in the fanclub.

Lastly, everyone who's into the scene already knew it was going to be a one sided series since Naniwa hasn't been practicing for over a month, so expecting that is kinda odd if you ask me. I wanted to see the matches because I love seing him play and I love his attitude and spark towards getting better. Without that attituded and spark, and with very onesided games, I do not mind that he left early.

And if you think I am defending Naniwa with this statement, I am not. I am defending my standpoint in this drama process.

I'll not argue with you, and this is not the place to do it either but think of it from this point of view instead. This is pure speculation on my part, mind you.

Why would he do what he did? To spite a lot of people on purpose? Well, perhaps, Nani's got the willforce to do it but I don't think so. I would rather follow the money, always follow the money; and guess that he was forced by contract to show up and play both WCS Eu and IEM Katowice, something he would detest to do, but still had to (be it salary, women, lego, whatever). "Sound-both-gate" was a technicality of getting out of that contract an hour earlier, if a bit awkward. End result outrage.

I think the pre IEM tweets was a way of trying to tone down the expectations, but instead people got extra mad because he intentionally deprived them their entitled entertainment, which certainly didn't help.

But still, I think it's a bit simplistic to simply blame one person for this drama. Nani's actions certainly didn't help, and he might still be the villain. Still, I think this is what can happen when people are forced down path they're not willing to go.

This, this and this. I've tried to raise this point and not many seem to have picked up on it. I know it's pure speculation but it does illustrate a point - namely that most people don't know what's behind Naniwa's decisions, and therefore should not assume and judge.

Other than that, I can only agree with the others. Anyone who's been following Naniwa knows that this match would have been a sad state of affairs. I wasn't even particularly sad that I couldn't be home and watch the games that night, knowing that they wouldn't be good games. And I say that as the biggest Naniwa-fan you'll ever find.

I can understand people being disappointed, hell I guess it's like going to the movies and expecting a great movie and ending up with a technical failure and no movie at all. But if you'd expected a crap movie, or Naniwa most likely getting crushed, as he himself stated beforehand in this very fanclub, you may not have been as disappointed and more understanding as well.

everything that happened was extremly silly, to be honest i told my team atleast 5 times that i didnt want to go and that they should make iem get a replacement for me. but my team didnt agree with this and also IEM said that they would highly recommend me to go or there would be consequenses ( this is what my team told me )

i would ofcourse not want to go to waste my time playing a tournament in a game i dont even practice anymore as it was a huge waste of time but as i said i was forced to because of SPONSOR Things, and ironically enough i got kicked out of the team for going there and doing what i did when i didnt even wanna go or play sc2 in the first place funnily enough. but whatever im not sad and i dont really care anymore about that, im sure that if i practice 2 weeks in the future i can make the comeback as the best foreign player at any time if i feel like it.

its a bit funny tho that ppl think other people deserve the spot ( Yes i wanted to give it away cuz i didnt wanna play the tour ) but i won it fair and square by going top2 at newyork, if other people wouldve "deserved it" then they could learn to qualify to tournaments by their own skill

I think that's actually pretty satisfying.. You go to a tournament that you don't want to go to, simply for promoting sponsors, and then you end up making a scene there, which probably hurt the sponsors, and then you get booted from the team! And it was EG (Alliance), too! If that isn't "Going Out With Style", then I don't know what is!!

I'm sure you have been considering Hearthstone or Heroes of the Storm for what to do next, right Naniwa? ^_~

Thx for explaining your side NaNiwa!

So you're officially off Alliance then?

Btw the last paragraph about the replacements,I agree wholeheartedly that someone else didn't just deserve the spot and should have earned it even if you wanted to replace yourself. GL NaNiwa!

I totally agree with you on this part, you played, you earned it and if other played would have been better they would have earned it.

That said I feel like you really shat on everyone who supports you when you said that you didn't owe anyone anything. You owed the team whatever the contract you signed. You also owed the sponsors some effort for the money they spent allowing you to do what some of us would dream about. Most of all you owe the fans who cheer you on a real effort to win the games they watch hoping you're the victor. This doesn't diminish what you put into Starcraft the hours work, time and thought that made you the Protoss foreign hope. Just something to think about if you do plan on playing seriously again.

I think it's fun to follow naniwa, but this was a bad idea.
I get it that you didn't want to do it, but you've just burned a lot of bridges in not only SC2, but e-sports in general. This is not the adult way to handle agreements.

I think if you're going to enter into a contract with a team and sign up for major events you need to be a grown up about it. If you lose your passion for something that's fine don't play anymore.. but the least a person can do is be mature about it and go through with what you've already committed to. Of course your team wanted you to play, because any team would be crazy to just give in to a diva attitude of " Oh I don't really feel like it anymore".

Regardless what's done is done and it's a real shame that you've lost your passion for the game because it was always great to see you play and cheer you on. Good luck with whatever you decide to do next.

I dont think Alliance is shitty, but since he asked a couple of weeks earlier that him going there wouldn't have worked out, they should have considered rethinking sending him.
