Sorry to say, but I have to agree with you at some extent. He haven't really lived up for his name after TSL, but still got alot of attention and respect from some big Korean names like July and Bomber!
I think Thorzain has bucketloads of talent and he could become one of the really big names (if he aint one yet!) and if he feels at home in Korea and with the heavy training they do there, he can really become a monster!

I think both of you are missing the point. Before TSL thorzain was a no-name to say the least, and after the TSL everyone expects him to be this dominating player that can't lose. Give him some time, hes just barely cracking into the scene.

Yes, well that is my point really. We need to give the guy some time and let him get into the scene and get more experience. What I know he dosen't have had to much LAN experience as one need to be able to handle nerves and such. I bet he feels the pressure to "have to" preform at big events and such, and as you said SorYu, he needs time and practice!
Thorzain Hwting!

He was the last foreigner left in the NASL Open Tournament and got pretty far in HomeStory also. Don't understand how you're saying he isnt living up to hype.

How is thorzain not living up to the hype lol? you must have overrated winning TSL3 or something tbh and equated it to winning the GSL and thought he was best player in the world now.
He's one of the best foreigners, I think that says enough in itself. Thorzain has plenty of LAN experience from WC3, and the only reason he got knocked out of MLG was cuz of MC and extended series. thorzain's tsl3 run was so epic cuz he was a dark horse and broke out onto the scene, joining one of the best clans and had one of the most difficult possible paths to the final
It isn't realistic to expect to win EVERYTHING, even when IdrA was considered far better than everyone else in the international scene he still couldn't win every tournament he joined
he is showing consistent good results and being a successful progamer is all about consistency, dunno what you guys are talking about with this "overhyped " bs

I might have pushed the point abit to much, and maybe not checked the facts as good as I could have. As some of you said, might have been blinded by the TSL victory and I dont think any player goes from one win to another win, when there are so many other great players and there are so small room for mistakes.

lightofdawn and soryu, how exactly is taking a game off of JULYZERG, arguably the third best zerg in the world, not living up to the hype? How is taking 2 games off of OGSMC in MLG not living up to the hype, on a day when he had no water or food? How is everytime he loses to a top korean, it being a game that could have gone either way, rather than getting crushed, not living up to the hype?
Think before you type, please.

Thorzain's future is so bright and he will continue to improve and become even better. 'Nuff said. Please sign me up as a fan! lycka till i korea/gsl!

And all this time Thorzain is still playing with wrists that aren't 100% like TLO. But I won't make excuses for him either, I just think some may think he's an unstoppable beast after this TSL3 win. He's doing well, but I along others don't expect him to place Top 3 or Top 5 in every tourney he does participate in. He's had his off days as much as anyone else (ie: the day Nerchio 3-0'ed him on TotalBiscuit's tourney).
As long as Thorzain's issue with his wrists heal up and he keeps practicing, the sky's the limit for him, he has endless talent and has shown to be an amazing player with proper training and preparation.

After TSL so many people were questioning whether he could perform if he wasn't given weeks to prepare. Then he qualified for IPL Season 2 through the open brackets. Then he finished top 10 in MLG going through the open brackets. Then he qualified for NASL Season 2 through the open brackets. But apparently he's not living up to the hype?
Don't really understand how anyone could think he isn't, and even less why you would post that in his fan thread...

I think you're underestimating "the hype," as his TSL run included Bo3-or-longer wins over the best 2 Protoss in the world and 2 former GSL Champions, and MC referred to him as a "top 5 Terran in the world" in an interview he gave in Korea at a time when MVP and MKP were still owning it up.
Since then, as you say, he "[takes] games off of" good players. Not really the same level of nerd-crushing excitement in that statement.
He's certainly not been exposed as a fraud, but to say that he hasn't lived up to his hype is, I think, reasonable. The same has been true of plenty of players at various points in their (very brief) SC2 careers (e.g. HuK, MMA) that eventually exorcised demons and have reached much closer to their hype-level, so I wouldn't take it too seriously.
Regardless of hype, Thorzain is clearly a very talented player, and I'm sure he'll keep getting closer to living up to his own potential.

Well hype is hype, but calling July and MC merely "good players" is an understatement to say the least... I think we can all agree Thorzain is exceptionally skilled and talented and that the only way is up for him
|
what are you talking about?he had the Game 2 against the best player in the World (overall results not current shape) in his hands, but gave it away. So whats this nonsense all about?
|
Thorzain will eventually become the best terran player in the world. His style is ruthless and to use a DayJism, muscular. He excels at confrontations most terrans balk at - head to head fights against protoss and zerg deathballs and winning at those confrontations. About the only thing he really lacks is the bluff sense he needs to know when an opponent is going for a tech switch - a scan or two more solves that problem.
The level of respect that JulyZerg and MC show to him is indicative of that. Thorzain was thirty seconds off taking the entire series off JulyZerg 2-0 and MC always has to play a hard game against him. Beating MC in any game, never mind a series, is not a trivial task.
Can't really have higher praise than that. I've only seen one terran give MC a harder game. Everyone else has simply been crushed.
|
ThorzaiN has had LAN experience what are you talking about? When you guys didn't know who I was I watched him being interviewed by rakaka on his transition to SC2 and latest WC3 matches. He's played WC3 competetively at LANs and this interview was at a LAN. It takes alot of time to become a SC2 and to live up to the standards. GIve him some time.

Why to people bother to post crap like this on the fan page?

Thorzain is amazing. I just started following SC2 a couple months ago and he's already one of my favorite players -- definitely my favorite Terran player. Hope to see him compete at MLG Anaheim!

I'm obviously a big fan, so sign me up.

winning a few games against MC or July doesn't make you the "best" right away... thorzain is definitely overhyped and overrated, but i do think he is one of the top foreigners out there. his korea stay should allow him to live up the hype.
