To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
No reposting of old material unless justified
Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.
sounds way too reedy, weak, airy, she's out of breath half the time, and breaths at all the wrong times its like an uglier version of jessica with a slightly larger range and a bit more power.
Even though your whole post is about the lack of actual discussion in this thread I really see little to any difference between the type of bad posts you give as examples and the one you made. Both shut down any chance of discussion. No one is claiming that she is the best singer in the world. I was personally impressed not as much as her vocal technique but just the feeling that her voice brings out onto people listening to her. After listening closely to it, she does seem to be out of breath at times like you said but that isn't a reason to belittle her performance. I really think some people before they even watch something they get ready to put it down just because other people seem to hype it so they don't even give it a chance and just try to nitpick as much as they can.
Actually it seems like the opposite happens here. People bandwagon over anything and everything and then when someone comes in and is like "are you serious with this?" they just get labeled a troll or say what you just did. When someone is trying to analyze something and say it is good or bad they need to listen closely and if nitpicking happens then so be it, it's part of the process.

I was wondering about this. Does anyone know how popular Korean metal music is? I assume it exists, but I don't think I have ever heard of Korean metal so I am not completely sure what it would be like.
Dunno how popular it is but it certainly exists. There are a lot of screamo, hardcore, metalcore bands.
U coulda found that out yourself btw.
Gotcha, thanks.
Also people were bitching about discussion so it was easier to just bring it up here than try to search for it myself.

Good thinking.
About the recent discussion: I don't think TuElite (or his kind) is to blame. It's more that a growing number of people a) stopped (or learned) reading the thread diligently, i.e. text, video and pictures and then b) respond to anything without thinking one second about what they're writing. This results in obnoxious one-liner posting that nobody really cares for, in not spoilering quotes, in reposting (which is really stupid because it's unnecessary since the new "subscribed threads" feature came up) and in the perception of those who really have something to say that nobody cares so they don't even try anymore. Vicious circle etc.
I am aware that the thread's substance doesn't exactly invite to quality posting. But that doesn't mean that there's no diligence at all to be had. Or that effort can't emprove this thread.

@Sc2zero7: Hyori is hardly known for her singing. A perfect example of a 1st generation Kpop idol.
It's hardly surprising that a KMD thread on a forum mostly inhabited by males will degrade into a Korean woman appreciation thread, because what does Korean music have that western music hasn't done years ago, to a higher standard? I enjoy the language a lot, which is what got me into it, but many people in here wouldn't care if they were singing in Swahili, so long as they have DEM EYES.
Would I prefer it if there was more music and less spazzing about average looking idols who can barely sing? Absolutely, but if you look at the bigger picture, this thread would have died long ago without the group who are doing that, and I've been introduced to some genuinely nice music through this thread. I'm grateful.
Just don't let it get so bad that it gets closed down.

Yeah I do notice this alot. Like, no one talked about Nicole until TuElite came, then suddenly there are tons of Nicole fans. Ji Sook used to be talked about alot here, then Kipsate/I stopped spamming so much and that went away. No one ever said Hwayoung wasn't a troll until ChinaLife came into the picture, etc. etc.
I wanna preface this by saying that I understand the allure of dem legz or whatever current (most likely overrated) feature of the idols people feel like spazzing over at the time and have certainly overlooked a fair amount of horrible songs because the guy/girl is cute/hot/endearing/I'm a sheep or whatever. So I figured since people were bringing up and trying to distinguish the difference between K-pop and Korean music, and its effect on the forum itself, I wanna ask this question of how many people actually listen to other Korean music in the thread.
Poll: Do you listen to Korean music other than k-pop?
Yes (65)
61%
No (41)
39%
106 total votes

Now the next poll WILL be kind of vague but I want to remind people that I'm asking for the ration based on what they listen to. As in consciously listen to, not just have on in the background while they're doing stuff, or have in their collections of totally legitimately gathered songs
Poll: The ratio between idol and non-idol Korean music I listen to is?
100:0 (33)
35%
75:25 (17)
18%
50:50 (10)
11%
90:10 (9)

64:33 (8)

33:64 (7)

25:75 (7)

10:90 (1)

0:100 (1)

Now another thing I'm curious about is what genres people listen to outside of K-pop. I'm sure this has probably been done before but I'm not gonna go back and reread every damn page from the beginning to find it again.
Poll: My English(or native language) music is mostly
Rock/Metal (42)
46%
Hip Hop/RNB (18)
20%
Electro (14)
15%
FUCK EVERYTHING THAT ISN'T POP (9)

Folk (4)

On a personal note, I only like kpop (other than being Asian and liking Asians) because it's catchy and mindless and keeps me entertained while I'm trying to do work which is something I can never achieve with western pop because the lyrics are usually so mind-meltingly bad that I fail to function when exposed.
But at the end of the day, it's kinda hard to keep a thread civil when a lot of the motivation for listening to the music is purely DAT MEAT. But even true quality of meat versus perceived quality of meat aside, it's hard to keep things in order when anyone without a common opinion is instantly branded a troll, where subjectivism only exists when it's convenient, and when whatever the major topic at the current moment is is whatever one of the major posters feels like establishing/re-igniting [see: idol appreciation trends]
Can't answer the second two. For the second poll, it used to be alot more idol music and now it's alot more balanced/less idol music than ever. For the last poll I honestly don't have 1 genre that I listen to more than others.
I personally like all the idol spam. Even if it's of people I don't really care about, all it does is add some color and I scroll down. And in certain cases, I end up seeing the idol and the spazzing that comes afterwards so much that I start to like the idol. Jisook, PJY, etc.
Actually, I don't understand "music discussion" at all. What are we discussing? It's always going to be "I like x because y." "Well I don't like x because of z" And in order to have that, we first need pic/vid spam. If we really want to generate discussion, we should stop expressing our opinions in such hateful ways. andyrau, jlim, Purpl3, etc.

-Spoiler pictures/videos past the first one unless they're quite small, but even then it shouldn't take up much room. Consider spoilering them all if they're all huge pictures. It's very obnoxious when someone posts a wall of pictures that makes it difficult to scroll past.
-Dial down sharing stories where you sound like a stalker. Tuelite would be fine if he would just tone it down a bit and act like a normal human being instead of someone who is rifling through Nicole's trash.
There's always going to be disagreements on how things should go, but the above 3 guidelines are nicely broad and help quite a bit.

I listen to somewhere between 75:25 and 50:50 idol:nonidol. I have a bunch of Kim Bo Kyung, SAT, Urban Zapaka, Zion, Dia, etc. in my current playlist.
I don't think this was posted, pretty interesting stuff imo. G.na singing and dok2 rapping plus Jay Park "acting" in the first MV and Jay Park singing in the 2nd. 2 different songs each with a Korean and English version.
^ Maybe the boy one was posted when it came out a couple days ago I don't know but the Girl one is new so might as well post both for comparison and what not.
JK. I don't actually think any of the posts here are really hateful. If anything, the only reason you would see it as hateful is because its not positive, and when compared to all the other commentary in other kpop fansites that's a huge difference. I read KMD because of the negative commentary if only to help me reevaluate my impressions. Its very easy to get caught up in the fanboy/fangirlism that goes with following kpop so its nice to read all the "negative" opinions and see the negatives that you may have missed or lied to yourself about.
But lets be fair, the vast majority of this thread is positive or neutral commentary, which would make a pretty boring discussion thread if there weren't the fan-skeptics to go with it.
I find the overly positive posts to be much more annoying then the negative ones, especially the ones that can't/won't spell correctly or the ones that insert random korean in the text.

True, you can't have discussion without differing opinions but what thread have you been reading.
hideous Nicole dumps or people spazzing over a whale called Tiffany Hwang because some fucking weird people are fans of them.
And it easily gets much worse than that. Maybe hateful was the wrong word. Unnecessarily strong, poor word choice, idk. Really, there is no need for anyone to act like that, anywhere. But I do agree with random korean text though. Even as a native korean reader, that gets annoying for some reason..
