Story was childish and cheesy, but I still liked it overall. Think LoTR meets Fern Gully.

Was really beautiful. I stopped noticing the 3d thing 30m in, not sure if I was just used to it or just pulled into the story so much. Unfortunately the glasses were a bit distracting which i kept adjusting, prob just the poor seat position (damn row lights). Great movie to watch even without 3d.

Brilliant special effects and amazing cgi. However, there was always some thing lacking the entire movie, a feeling that I couldn't get out of my head. I think it was the one dimensional characters was never able to feel anything towards them Some of the actors have signed for potential sequels so if that every happens I hope Cameron, with the special effects established really tries to improve the story line.

I just found it stupid that people keep comparing Avatar to Pocahontas or Dances With Wolves. I mean, they're pretty damn similar but obviously if you water down the plot as much as people have been doing it's going to seem like a carbon-copy of those movies. The plot structure is similar but it's important what goes on. Eh, I liked it anyway.

The scenery alone was too much. I'm thrilled at how far we can take animation and 3d. Definetly a must see.

I was not disappointing :-) Because I expected nothing. Look, the story is not that good, really, if you've seen Dances with Wolves and many other movies, or even if you haven't... you'll still know whats going to happen, there's no big revelation, everything in this movie is very very predicable. But the visuals... omg the visuals :-) I recommend watching the movie in 3D to anyone! How he explores the wildlife... it really feels like you're the one walking in that strange planet. Infact, I'd probably rather watch it as a national geographic fantasy planet exploration without a big story... :-)

Also I hate when people say the story is similar to others as a bad thing just because the visuals are sooo good they make people expect the story to change their lives forever. If i had the time/will I could probably link any film made in the last decade to about 10-20 things similar to it story wise. I mean really...what did they think the story was for...it was for showing off the awesome world that they built (Harry Potter anyone? In fact I could probably make an argument that Avatar is extremely similar to Harry Potter), What better way then to show off the environment than to make the characters mission to learn about and explore it. If they had twice the screen time/budget I'm sure they could have made the story much more intricate and philosophical. It seems like something critics say because they have nothing else to say. Now my thoughts: It might have just been my mood, but some of the moments were a bit odd/queasy, I don't know how to explain it..it seems like a new standard and a huge eclipse of most other fantasy films but I don't think they have a mastery of it yet. I found some of the 3D things to be a bit obnoxious, the ones that were not part of the focus but kinda pestered me for attention. Some of the far "out" 3D things going off the screen were distracting because of their transition off of the screen, its a more dramatic disappearance in 3D I because it's more real. It's as if a real person just disappeared as they crossed a line, far more noticeable than a 2D image disappearing. I watched it in 3D obviously.

I agree the visuals are stunning (and I also agree that some 3d effects were a bit off tho, some very close-up stuff etc, but still feckin awesome) and for the first half they completely made me forgive any flaw in the storyline. However, to say "it seems like something critics say because they have nothing else to say" is a bit odd, if the storyline is shit and thats the only thing to say surely that doesnt make it less valid (tho not more then an oppinion either)? Its not the fact that the story has been told before, most stories have, but the complete predictability of pretty much every plot-twist and the very, very lame dialogue combined with some other odd stuff made me feel that they created this awesome, awesome visual world and then bolloxed it up by not taking the time to properly set the story. Again, this is only my opinion tho ^^

I watched it last night with my girlfriend. People were crying all over the theater b/c of the story. Lol we couldn't keep from yawning and giggling at the incredibly corny parts. The characters really really really needed more depth. I felt like I'd seen the story over a million times, some time during my childhood. Graphics were great, but graphics don't make a good movie, imo. James Cameron delivers another cheesefest.
