In the new blockbuster Avatar, humans visit the habitable - and inhabited - alien moon called Pandora. Life-bearing moons like Pandora or the Star Wars forest moon of Endor are a staple of science fiction. With NASA's Kepler mission showing the potential to detect Earth-sized objects, habitable moons may soon become science fact. If we find them nearby, a new paper by Smithsonian astronomer Lisa Kaltenegger shows that the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be able to study their atmospheres and detect key gases like carbon dioxide, oxygen, and water vapor.

A group of friends and I were planning to see it today but because of a foot of snow we're going to wait until Monday. My friends and I are gonna try to be true nerds and brave the snow. ![]() Hope it's worth it, and from what I've read here it should be. ^^

Sfx blew me away, but the storyline was trite and predictable. Why don't the people who are supposed to win ever win? Long range missile weaponry should tear everything to shreds - the plotholes are numerous indeed. A solid movie but not as awesome as some claim. Revolutionary, though - it really is immersive.

That's like complaining that there isn't enough character development in the Terminator 2 ride at Universal Studios. I freakin' loved it, and I'm going to see it again. As one of the many elements of a movie, it is fair game to critique the plot. It does appear derivative as many people have been comparing it to other movies such as Dances With Wolves. I'd rather have my movies have style and substance than just be eye candy. Despite that, I still think it's a great movie. In no way is it the perfect movie. Visual effects are astounding. Pandora looked amazing. I loved Zoe Saldana's voice acting of Neytiri.

and all i want is more more more..would be really excited for a sequel. I thought, despite the other comments on the plot, that it prevailed throughout the movie nonetheless.

Because it goes against the message: No matter how big your bloody weapons are, if you fuck with nature, you're going to eventually suffer from it.
