I heard there is also Digital 3D and 'Read' 3D- what is the difference T_T lol? no idea, are u sure its not REAL 3d? cause thats just the 3d company
yeah I meant Real 3D
apparently some theaters show Digital 3D but not 'Real' 3D -_________-

Graphics were great, but graphics don't make a good movie, imo.
Totaly agree with this. The characters in the movie were all too plain. Another issue with this movie is that it didn't have any exciting plot twists really. Atleast not anything that wasn't expected.
Didn't see it in 3d but as everybody has said - the cgi was amazing.

"Get Some!" "I see you....I see you too"
Atrocious dialogue
|
I saw it, thought it was pretty entertaining, but the name "unobtainium" was just ridiculous
|
"Get some" is a quote from Full Metal Jacket as part of the whole "looks like Vietnam" thing. Also, unobtanium is also a technical term used by engineers to describe unobtainable (har har) for reasons of cost or non-existence.

The movie looks good and the "camera" work or w.e turns out quite nicely, it's nothing new story wise hell it's like half of the movies by disney. Story isn't special here but the story telling is quite good.

Lets settle the one thing on everyones mind, the plot is not cliche
the correct word is Timeless. The plot is Timeless. I felt for the charectors and events in a profound and moving way. When they were in danger you were in danger. When they were happy you were happy. This movie hit home hard.
Go see this movie now. Like right now. And make sure absolutly sure you see it in 3D. Like with glasses 3D. I dont care if you have to drive an hour or what just see it in 3d.
This movie wasnt overhyped. It was underhyped

Well, no one wants a big project to succeed. I guess they have to be able to complain about something, and in this case, it's the plot. Most of the people saying the plot was formulaic walked into the theater already thinking that from reviews they've read. It's hard to take seriously.
And yes, about the same dozen stories have been recycled, repackaged, and reshown since the beginning of time. To complain that you've seen the story before is just ignorant. Think of your favorite movie - now think of what movies, books, stories are just like it. If you can't think of any, you must be living under a rock!

I just got back from seeing this movie in 3D and thought it was simply beautiful.... Stunning graphics and a great story.
Typical tl.net bashing lol

I agree that some of the dialogue was cringe worthy,
Didn't listen much though just watched

There is a great quote about how humans only have 5 storys that they just keep recycling. Ask yourself if you thought Starcraft was lame because it was done before with warhammer. If the answer is no then go see this movie.

I just saw this in IMAX and I have to say its really really really far up there on my best movies ever list. There are times when you want sharp twists and turns but this movie is just a well-paced thriller. The middle of the movie where you learn to fly.. I may have drooled on myself.

I saw this movie a few days ago and i was BLOWN AWAY
I found the graphics amazing but the movie really had emotional pull as well.
I made sure i didnt read any avatar spoiler type stuff before going to be able to watch it with a clean slate.
I totally agree with this:

Any given story is always going to have repetitions from other stories because we are all HUMAN... human emotions arent changing fast so techniques for the manipulation of those emotions arent changing either. Good stories will always have similarities because of this.

on the contrary, Good stories will always be original.
Cheesy shitty monodimentional stories will have strong similarities.

It was so frustrating reading through the previous six pages of reviews, of people that are looking at the plot of the movie from one perspective.
Just think about it: If the movie had a complex plot, you wouldn't necessarily enjoy the breathtaking scenery that everone is writing about, and focus more on the plot!
The plot had emotionally well-developed characters, that you could definitely relate to. I saw it a few hours ago, and I can say that I felt as though I was on Avatar, and the rest of my family did too, so it doesn't really matter whether you think the plot is corny or not. The important part is that the story makes you feel like you're there with the characters, living on Pandora. My mom, after seeing this movie, said that she wants to live there. It definitely has emotional depth.
Please stop viewing the plot so simplisticly, and stop ignoring the fact that a complex plot detracts from visual experience. If you can't get the plot, you feel frustrated; on the other hand a plot that you can predict allows you full exposure to Pandora.
It's like a Pandora's Box of scenery =)
My 2 cents :p

gonna go see this soon, looking forward to it.
although I can't help but think all this "revolutionary" talk is coming primarily from old people who just discovered CGI.
it looks nice -- cool, and I feel like I already know this plot line.
i still expect a sweet action movie, but yeah. i doubt it tugs any heartstrings or will make me rethink my outlook on life.

I think people are getting way too hung up on the plot. It might've been done a thousand times before, but this is an example of where it's done very very right. Plus the action scenes alone were worth the price of admission
