Good movie. Its hard to watch a movie like a critic though, when you're in a bad mood, no movie is good, except tragedies... maybe. I recommend watching this movie if you're in the mood for an epic.

too many pages to look thru for this but this movie was a recreation of Dune. I wouldn't shut up about it the whole movie and at the end amazingly, credits roll, in association with Dune Entertainment.

dont care if they dont actually have anything to do with Dune, im satisfied.

If you're expecting something bad when watching the movie, you're going to try to convince yourself that you're correct and find everything that supports you.

Just go watch it without any expectations, with a clean slate. I find it ridiculous how people keep criticizing everything excluding the visuals.

Why is being critical about the movie suddenly labeled as simplistic? I don't even think most critics are saying people shouldnt go see this movie, I'm personally recommending it to people, simply because the visuals are that good and on a whole new level. But once again, its not so much that the story has been told before, its that it is so incredibly predictable in every twist and turn. Can you honestly say you were surprised at.... well pretty much anything happening?

From the heli-chick rebelling to him riding the big beasty, the final fight with the major, to the bigger storyline where he makes it as a member of the society, him falling in love, fighting with the group he set out to explore

Everything was "to be expected", and altho I do agree the acting isnt bad, the dialogue is just horrible. Combine that with some other cheese and I'd say those are some fairly valid notes for this movie. Wether or not that makes the movie still worth watching or not is an entirely different debate. (and one that I would answer with yes)
I'm a man of my word, and that word is "unreliable".

Wow, that's cool.. I didn't know this before but now that you mention it, it's a very similar story. But it doesn't have all the intrigue that goes on between the houses and assassination attempts which was a good side plot.

It was a pretty good movie though.. I'm going to see it again since the 3d was sold out today the only part that really made me cringe was "unobtainium" which sounded like a placeholder name they forgot to replace later.. seriously, they went to the trouble of making a whole language for the blue people, and they couldn't bother to come up with a word that was already used? Seriously, it's like naming your main character "Protagonist"

haha I thought about the Dune connection but don't think it's particularly strong. Dune's a better story by far.

Has anybody tried to picture Protoss instead of that faggy blue alien race in the movie?
aaughaagwaghu *cums*

I was thinking this the whole time... their psychic braids in the back, how they look kind of human but taller, stronger, and blue, and their jungle homeworld. They're like some weird cross between night elves and protoss. The one battle near the end with the colonel in the robot was like a marine fighting a zealot with no shields or psi blades, heh

You mean "they couldn't bother to come up with a word that wasn't already used"?

And I'm pretty sure the whole point was to use that word, don't get so hung up on something so trivial.

Yeah I did. I don't see how "unobtainium" which is pretty cringe-worthy is any better than something cheesy like "power crystals", or even a real element like palladium. It's not like it ruined the movie because they only said it twice but it made me go wtf.

I just saw the 3d movie and i am still having a massive movie orgasm. That movie kicked ass, and i have to say that the freaking blue aliens were so pretty! They were gorgous and i would kill to have that body (Minus the nose). The movie was epic (albeit a bit predictable) and hot damn the CGI was out of this world. Totally life like and amazing <3 AVATAR

Watched it last night in 3D.
I was not disappointing :-) Because I expected nothing.
Look, the story is not that good, really, if you've seen Dances with Wolves and many other movies, or even if you haven't... you'll still know whats going to happen, there's no big revelation, everything in this movie is very very predicable.
But the visuals... omg the visuals :-) I recommend watching the movie in 3D to anyone!
How he explores the wildlife... it really feels like you're the one walking in that strange planet.
Infact, I'd probably rather watch it as a national geographic fantasy planet exploration without a big story... :-)

Ya, I like that some others are making the connections to other similar story-line movies, like "Dances with Wolves", "Fern Gully" or even "The Last Samurai"..
All about 1 civilization about to be destroyed and it's ppl, being less-capable of surviving it, going on a 1 big last ditch effort to fight back etc..

However, I just got done watching it over the internet and the quality wasn't that great, but I actually liked it overall..
Took me a bit to get into the whole 9-10 ft. tall characters, seemingly looking half human and half cat-like.. but the worlds, colors, effects, overall play of the movie was good!
Was quite skeptical about it and didn't think i'd like it..
Turns out i'll prolly be owning it when it comes out =)

I thought it was the worst movie ever. I honestly felt like walking out around 30 minutes before the end. It was so cheesy and clichey it actually made me cringe. Now, why do I think it's the worst movie ever? Because of the massive letdown; I went in hoping to see something amazing. Had I been expecting a mediocre movie then I guess I wouldn't rate it so low.

Saw the movie, but sadly, not in 3D or IMAX since AMC's IMAX is a rip off. The nearest true IMAX is in San Francisco and I don't feel like driving or any of my friends driving for a movie. I thought the movie was just good and not amazing, mouth dropping, spectacular, etc. I thought the story was pretty generic and predictable. There is nothing wrong with that because a generic and predicable movie can be good if executed correctly. The acting wasn't too bad, but the dialogue was kinda bad.

The CGI is top notch that is for sure since James Cameron did wait about 10 years to make this movie. What kinda bugged me is how uncreative the designers were for this movie. You would think that the planet Pandora would be exotic (which it is sort of), but it had way too many animals similar to Earth's. I understand that it is kinda hard to make a unique creature, but at least try a little besides taking a lion and just change the face or whatever.

I am the type of person that likes long movies, but the pacing of "Avatar" was kinda dull until near the end. Not because of the action, but it just felt like the purpose of the main character was finally happening. Overall the movie will be an instant buy when it comes out on blu-ray for me.

Ok, so you have to see this shit in 3D. If you do, it's cooler than real life. Without a good script or good acting, and with an extremely predictable and derivative plot, it is possibly the best movie ever. That is how cool it looks.
