Pretty nice battle. I'm still kinda amazed that Yang could hold off the entire Imperial fleet. And whatever happened to Mecklinger? Is he still hanging out at the end of the corridor?
This picture is great when taken out of context. Everyone's dead! :O Oh well.
Kircheis still advising Reinhard. And Hilda's still no match for a ghost. I will say though, I really didn't expect peace talks at this point in the show.
lol, Julian's such a player.

The death of Yang Wenli really caught me offguard for instance when i was more or less sure he would be saved (by Julian most likely). I kinda refused to believe it and even thought it was Julian having a nightmare or something. But then I think it was Attenborough who said "this isn't a third rate anime, the dead don't come back", I laughed.
Anyway yeah, I realllly enjoyed watching it and even if it's kinda long, it's NEVER boring. One of the best animes I've ever watched.
The part where Yang died took me entirely by surprise. It was easily the saddest thing in any anime ever. I've never seen Clannad: After Story, but people claim that one is sad... But there is no way that can even come close. Watching Yang bleed to death was like watching a long time friend die. We saw him rise through the ranks, we saw his victories, we saw his love for Jessica, we saw him try to raise Julian as best he could, we really felt for him when Jessica died. We were with him all during his struggles against the Alliance Government. We even attended his wedding. And finally, after many hard fought battles, Yang finally achieves what he set out for, a chance for peace. And then... He dies... Our friend for 82 episodes that we had all come to like and relate to, was gone. No anime even comes close to the emotion from that event.
It didn't help that his death was done in pretty much the worst way possible. There was no glorious battle as there was with Bucock, Fahrenheit, or Steinmetz. There was no passing of the torch. He was just shot by some random mook and bled to death, all alone.
Bloody Yang.
About the Nanoha stuff: I like Vita better than Signum. Its a simple question of "which do you like more, the Goldion Hammer or Lamia Loveless?" Clearly the Goldion Hammer is superior.
More like do you prefer women or loli. Right? Right?
LOLIS! :D
Plus the badass, German-speaking hammer. Goldion Hammer.
Shouldn't you be watching the Superbowl? Traitor. D:
@Sentenal: You crazy? Fate/Signum was waaaay better than Nanoha/Vita Edit: No love for useless Shamal lololol

They are so damn lazy with the art in that show. Somebody had a gif that showed the main character's arm stretching out to ridiculous lengths when he was opening a door, but I didn't save it. And yeah, the sister is a pretty annoying character.

The ending for Tenjou Tenge was trash. It wasn't even an ending... Good lord. I guess I'll have to watch the 2 OVA episodes before I completely feel like I wasted my time on this show.
Ok well I've finished Madoka 3, and I'm now genuinely interested. It took a while for the show to build up to it, but that was a damn good way to end the episode.
Oh, and their teacher's rambling rants are amusing.

I heard the morning rescue (the product in that commercial) is the liquid dripping on the walls in Madoka's room in the OP. (I think they changed the color of it from orange to blue in Madoka 4 or 5 though).
Ahh, well that explains it. I'm steaming it online because I don't have much free space (and I generally tend to stream ongoing stuff, too much of a hassle to download each torrent as they come out, and the site I use is actually keeping on top of releases really well.)
I wouldn't even consider that trolling (well, maybe if I was trying to archive that release, but still), I mean, it made me laugh, not rage.
You know, now that I think of it, there's one thing that kinda really bugs me about magical girl anime (though it can apply to various other situations in other anime as well). The idea that the main character may decide not to do something that is central to the plot + Show Spoiler +
Such as Madoka possibly chosing not to become a magical girl... (not that this is strictly a spoiler, but either way, I'd prefer just to not discuss specifics when possible, and anything specific about an anime I mention will likely be spoilered.)
I mean, the actual result is pretty much guaranteed, especially in the above case since there would be no show if they chose differently.

It actually had potential for a decent story, but then the ending was so bad and the OVA episodes did nothing to help it. Infact it made it worse. Fuck. The show had so much potential and it just left everything open with a bad ending.

It was two in a row. If I didn't mind commercials, why would I be torrenting fansubs from the internet?
Personally, commercials are less of a concern for me than the actual quality of the subtitles, but that's because I have a rather strong opinion against dubbing of anime. I'm more or less completely against it, because it does nothing but help give companies a reason to stifle the fansub community, and on top of that, everything they produce is second rate, with the exception of Ghibli releases, because they get real actors who understand voice acting to voice the characters.
So with that, I'd rather watch a good quality fansub with a commercial in it than a fast, poorly translated one without a commercial...
Though to be perfectly honest it seems like gg's translations are mediocre at best as well :/

Madoka is currently subbed by gg, Nutbladder, Chihiro and yesy, as far as I know. gg and Nutbladder are both speedsubs with comparable subbing quality. gg trolls their audience with commercials and chapter titles in the mkv but has a pretty large following. Nutbladder is your usual speedsub, some mistakes here and there but overall pretty solid and my current choice.
Chihiro has made too many mistakes in the few episodes that are out already, so I won't recommend them for now. Maybe with a fixed batch later on for archival purposes, but I don't think that this is likely, because...
yesy subs are pretty slow at times but are widely regarded as the most accurate and best translation that is currently available for Madoka. They are even translating the runes for the most part, so if you want the best, you should wait for them and get their subs. (Reminds me that I still have to check out their ep5.)

The norm in mahou shoujo anime is for the main girl to be transformed pretty much from the start. Madoka is now at episode 5, and she's still not a mahou shoujo. It doesn't get much better than that.
Anyhow, you said it yourself, certain things must happen, otherwise there is no show. How else would you define a genre?
Edit: For instance, suppose there was a mystery show that follows a murderer around. Then suddenly, as he's about to commit his first crime, he realizes the error of his ways and decides to stop and lives happily ever after. Nobody would watch that.

Thanks for the info. I've seen Chihiro before and despite their occasional messups, I preferred them over the others for whatever it was I was watching (yeah, I forget what it was, lol). I think maybe their encodes were better, or I liked they way they translated certain things better (my japanese isn't good enough to watch raws, but I can understand some lines, and sometimes realize that the subs don't convey the meaning the way they should etc.)
I've also heard of yesy, but I dunno if I've ever watched one of their subs knowingly.
I don't think I'll bother archiving Madoka (it takes a rare anime for me to actually archive it indefinitely) but if I drop it and want to come back I'll try to remember to get the yesy subs if nobody does a higher quality sub for it.
It seems to me like there are too many low quality speedsub groups out there, but I think that if you got the right people together you could make a pretty damn good speedsub group. I mean, some os the subs I've seen are absolutely terrible, and I wonder why they even got released... And the same goes for encodes, I've seen some godawful encodes out there. Just because you use x246 does not automatically mean your release looks good, or compresses well :/
