Its because the real real reason is that he wanted BL, and the BL was not to be

Lol, what is this argument?
You know there are things called High Sci-Fi and High Fantasy, and Low Sci-Fi and Low Fantasy?

I've never heard of High or Low Sci-Fi. Only Hard Sci-Fi (heavy on science) and Soft Sci-Fi (heavy on fantastical or unexplained science) - think of it as The Martian being Hard Sci-Fi and Star Wars as Soft Sci-Fi.
Of course, if you're going to start splitting genre hairs, that's not even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to slicing and dicing. I do think, however, that LotR was probably not quite the example to use in describing what appears to be a desire for low to no magic content in fantasy.
Whatever, though - people like what people like. (Except if they don't like Monogatari - that's a sure sign of shit taste.)

I simply cannot recommend it. The show had an interesting start and then turned into a complete mess. Ended up rating it 4/10 for various reasons. Characters were mostly one-dimensional and the conflict in general was incredibly one-sided. Arslan and his friends were never in any danger because each of his retainers is, in essence, some sort of demigod. + Show Spoiler +Narsus will come up with an ingenious plan in every battle, Daryun will defeat any foe in combat, regardless of number or size or skill, etc... You can say similar things for pretty much every character in his retinue. It kinda kills every little bit of tension when you know that, no matter the challenge, they will roflstomp their way through it anyway. Random villains pop up every now and then for no real reason and the main villains needs a wide range of deux-ex-machina tools to not die right away. Aside from that the technical aspect is pretty bad, the pacing is bad, the dialogue will make you cringe at times, etc. I guess the music wasn't bad, but that's pretty much the only positive thing I can think of.

Perfect Blue and Jin-Rou seem to be missing from the list of movies that you have seen thus far. Sakasama no Patema was fairly good, too... Does Kara no Kyoukai count as a bunch of movies? If so, you should give those a shot. Overall quality is great and some of the movies are pretty damn awesome (Mujun Rasen for example).

Pretty much sums up my view of Arslan. I don't know why people bring up magic as being the downfall of the series when it has more serious flaws, particularly in the plot and presentation. It's pretty hard to stay invested in the series when the way the story will progress is totally obvious. I waited 24 episodes for a LoGH-like twist, and never got it.

Maybe I'm reading it differently than you guys but from the posts he made now (and I vaguely recall back then), I always thought that his point overall made sense to me even if it may not be the best written but I don't really feel the need to argue someone else's views lol.
As for the why portion of your response, sure, consistency is important but sometimes you only come to realizations later on after the fact. Also, the correct answer was no one should lol.

What can i do ? I explained things that should've been supposed to be soooo simple (i prefer medieval over futuristic) i wouldn't have to spell out everything just like i did for you. Still if you really understood there wouldn't be a need to start nitpicking over and trying to mislead it to the point that we got here. And if you couldn't understand how simple that was then it wouldn't be unusual if that didn't make sense to you.
Now you are accusing me of wanting BL even though i'm the one refused to watch shinsekai yori because there was homosexual content LMFAO
Stop spreading bullshit you are just twisting my words now
|
you just lost me bringing up SSY. there's like barely one part and its understandable in the context of the shows story.
|
Preferring medieval over futuristic doesn't have anything to do with deciding a dozen of episodes into an anime (that you professed to love) that you now hate it due to something that's been present since the start of it. Why don't you just admit that when your hopes for BL die in Arslan, so did the anime?
|
Yeah i know about it was barely a minute of kissing i think Unleashing mentioned it once but i was just bringing up that point cause i indeed didn't wanna watch SSY because of the Homo content (and no i don't dislike gay people i just don't like watching them go romantic if i can avoid it), and Sent is just straight up saying that i wanted gay stuff to happen to Arslan lmao

OK, enough. This isn't animu related at all.

Pretty sure this "medieval over futuristic" was the start of the argument you even told me that settings doesn't matter because of it.
And besides can't you change your opinion overtime ? Like so you like the intro can't it be bad later on ? Is it not possible that the show cannot contain your interest ? Or that other reasons outside plot structure would disappoint you of the show ?
|
It's all good goody. The lack of BL in our innitial draft for the Magic Jesus Doujinshi turned you away from drawing it, even after we included some. The project was just ruined at that moment for you. And the same happened with Arslan or so it seems. If you're not comfortable spelling out that you just want the lewd that's fine. We'll just leave it at that and silently nod along.

Finished my rewatch.
+ Show Spoiler [Bunch of FMP shit] +In the first season, when Chidori gets rescued by Sousuke after being mind probed (or whatever), her first thought is "I can't go outside dressed like this". I distinctly remember being annoyed by this exact scene the first time I watched it too. It's like the author was trying to (poorly) inject some humour into a decidedly unfunny situation.
The Afghanistan ("Helmajistan") arc is still my favorite part of s1, probably because it's the closest we get to BOMF-like material before BOMF. The only problem is that it's surrounded by gag episodes, which makes the shift in tone kinda jarring. Fortunately, this particular issue won't be present for BOMF.
Fumoffu is still godlike. In retrospect, it's kinda funny that it has some of the best relationship building scenes despite being a gag series.
I love TSR, and I hate it too. Kyoani totally nailed some parts of the show - the haircut scene, Chidori's paranoia, and the talk with Gauron come to mind. However, the plot has gaping holes that aren't really addressed.
The central problem for Sousuke is that he can't figure out how to balance his life. Does he spend his days at school, living "normally" and being with Chidori, or does he prioritize his work with Mithril? His conflict is symbolized in his relationship with the Arbalest/Al, and his inability to use the Lambda Driver. In the end, Sousuke ends up choosing both, which makes no goddamn sense. Sure, it's supposed to mean that both of these things are very important to him, but the whole reason this was an issue to begin with is because he wasn't able to handle both simultaneously! Aside from that, it's a decent character arc for him.
Similarly, Tessa wrestles with her duties as captain versus her feelings for Sousuke. This isn't resolved either since Sousuke cops out with a "you're my captain, but you're more than a captain to me" type answer.
Chidori's development is centered around her vulnerability when Sousuke is absent. It's meant to illustrate how dependent she became on Sousuke (in more ways than one). She deals with it though because Chidori is a badass.
TSR is also the start of villains who will never be as good as Gauron. Fortunately, it's also the start of Al as a serious character and deadpanner.
I wonder if they'll change the art again for the new series.

Please guys, just stop being unfair. To pick on someone with inferior abilities to word themselves properly (This isn't meant as an insult obviously. Not everyone has learned english on equal terms.) repeatedly isn't going to help anyone. I know what goody said contradicted itself from our point of view but I'm pretty sure that it makes sense in his head. I understand that it's important to bring people to not contradict themselves but I think you are picking on language issues instead of the core problem.
I also agree with BigFan on this point. E.g. I don't think it was made clear in the beginning that the fog was magic related. I remember that I thought of it as a tactical incorporation of weather phenomena. I thought the opponent knew the fog was coming at the time and lured the army of arslan's father into position. Kind of like the upwinds in the first LotGH movie.
Aside from that, I randomly started rewatching Jinrui last night. Oh man, this series is so ingenious/genius, I can't stop smiling.
