I can totally see someone liking one but liking the other. That being said, I think it's way too early to compare the two shows. I havn't read the LN (and haven't seen enough of LoGH), so they can pretty much become much more similar in the future. They are also both story and development heavy shows with a slow start so judging them only makes sense after a certain amount of time. I mean you wouldn't. judge a 1000 page novel after 50 pages, right (besides maybe the style of writing)? I also think goody should do himself a favour and stop arguing against Sent as he is pretty much predetermined to not cut his way out of it.
Only way to win an argument against Sent is to either ignore him and let him ramble on, or shit on his waifus so that he tilts. Ask eca for advice.
That said, I forgot Arslan was by the same author as LoGH until the end of like ep 2 or 3, where + Show Spoiler +they listed out the casualties in a very similar (and amusing) LoGH style.

dissapoited with yona, wasnt expecting much since ep like what 6/7. Im pissed as shit, gonna watch UBW since im still at ep 13.
seems like I have different thoughts about ur oppai, their size is good only when it goes with proportions of the rest of the body. I dont tend to dislike enormous/"flat" just because of the size. Intelligence is #1 factor. still im pissed and this is irrelevant, hope ill break something at work

Haha yeah. However, that isn't exclusive to LoGH. I remember a similar thing from somewhere else but I can't pinpoint it atm. : /

You could break some oppai at work and see what happens afterwards.

anything above the chick in vampire bund, dat really took flat to a new lv is intelligence really ur #1 personality trait? mine is........ princess/girliness i guess this is for anime tho, irl i guess intelligence is probably #1 coz she has to be smart enough for sense of humour (but no smarter...). in anime they are all intelligent "enough" by default otherwise it'd just be awkward lol

I think I picked a really, really awkward time to glance into the anime thread due to lack of a general manga thread. I'll just say that I don't like fan service when it's too blatant and over the top.
After a quick google, I'll assume that LOGH = Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Arslan = The Heroic Legend of Arslan. Latter seems to have a manga but I'm having trouble finding the former, despite wiki saying there's a manga adaptation (tried searching parts of Ginga Eiyu densetsu as well, though didn't look particularly hard) . If you guys find them both interesting enough to bicker over, should at least be worth a read.
Beats sifting through yet another school life manga in hopes of finding areas that the mangaka did something new and interesting beyond the standard formula + series specific gimmick.

Huh? She was just a normal loli in vampire bund. Nothing new when it comes to flat.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes (銀河英雄伝説 Ginga Eiyū Densetsu?), also known as LOTGH (銀英伝 Gin'eiden?), is a series of science fiction novels written by Yoshiki Tanaka.
The Heroic Legend of Arslan (Japanese: アルスラーン戦記 Hepburn: Arusurān Senki?) is a Japanese fantasy novel series.

i disagree completely, even the youngest lolis still have a feminine figure to some degree. they drew bund girl completely boyish , hips and chest , to characterise her that way on purpose. i dont really know why coz its not very likable but it certainly stylised her . u seldom see someone characterised as flat as that (torsu + hips), irl or drawn, tho they do exist, its far from the norm

shamless self promotion
i wrote a blurg about one-sentence manga/anime, specifically oyasumi punpun, tatami galaxy and eden: it's an endless world
no shame

The Arslan anime is actually an adaption of a manga that is an adaption of the novels I believe.

If you want to see what the big deal with this argument is about, then you can watch LoGH, it's 110 episodes, and you can find it on bakabt. If you can't find the manga adaptation of it, it's probably not translated. If you only want to read, then it's originally novels, but probably also not translated.
Arslan however, has a translated manga (it should), that's an adaptation of a novel. Or you can just watch the anime along with everyone else. Unless you specifically want to read.

I just said that they were both originally novels if i wanted to read the source i'd want to read the original source material personally, but the original novel is likely not translated while the manga probably is, however i know that the anime seems to be mostly based upon the manga version drawn by the author of FMA.

I can read a manga way faster than I can watch an anime. Lets me experience a greater number of series (and for many series the anime stops at a certain point while the manga has kept going). To me manga is often the script while an anime often serves to flesh it out - I can get roughly the same enjoyment from both, even if each form has its own strengths. Due to the vastly increased time it takes to go through an anime, I usually prefer not to do it for every single series I come across if there are other options. 110 episodes is also a lot... and I have this bothersome habit of rarely dropping a series once I start it. Has been getting harder to find interesting manga series I haven't already read though, so might end up watching it anyway (and as an older, finished series - finding a non-anime translation of it would probably be fairly difficult). Did have another anime series I've been meaning to watch as well since the manga version is in 4koma style and was too disjointed for my tastes.
I know this is the anime thread. Was mainly looking for alternative methods of checking out the series. I'm aware they were both initially novels. So was 1/2 Prince, and likely several others. There's even a manga of the semi-recent BBC Sherlock series, so at this point I don't rule anything out as being possible. Unless it got utterly butchered going from one medium to another, any should be fairly decent.
Read through the 20 chapters of Arslan I found. Decent enough to keep reading, though doesn't blow me away. Seems to have a theme encouraging open mindedness/potential harm of being too set in a single viewpoint. Only found two chapters of the LOGH manga. Had some interesting points to it, though two chapters isn't enough to really judge the series on - barely enough time to introduce characters. Author really sucks at depicting scale in both series, but I guess he just focuses his attention on other areas.
|
I don't even know what I just read. How can you judge something you barely read. Also the original novel is going to be better than an adaption 99% of the time no matter how good the adaption if. It's extremely rare for an adaption to be better. I can only think of The Mist as an example of that happening. Read/Watch what you want but you shouldn't judge the original story based on an adaption.

He said he'd like a general thread for Manga. He obviously just prefers Manga over Novels in general, thus searching for the Manga version rather than the original. Nothing wrong with that, I'm the other way around and prefer LNs over Manga
Just ctrl-f "manga" in his post.

I briefly considered creating a consolidated MDT thread much like the ADT but decided against it seeing as there won't be enough real discussion and pretty much any good manga will eventually get a thread of its own.
most of my manga discussion happens here anyway, plus I wouldn't want a thread to be filled with goody's weird manga reports.
as for vortok, LoGH is a series that needs to be watched, I don't think there is any other way you could get enjoyment from it outside of actually getting your hands on the novels, as inconvenient as it may be for you.
