On July 06 2010 21:46 Lucumo wrote: You just said it yourself..."that most utilize". That means that it's not universal. Also, your definition is not really useful. As I already said, it's meaningless in regard to non-physical things. You can interpret "a grade of excellence in different ways". In my opinion, this applies better: "The most progressive view of quality is that it is defined entirely by the customer or end user and is based upon that person's evaluation of his or her entire customer experience." I never disagreed with that, but I said that "quality" is different for us. A computer game is good example: Some people say: "Wow, this game has really good graphics, it's a sign of quality". Others say: "Graphics? I don't care, it doesn't matter at all. It's all about the story and the gameplay". Why is it not realistic how the characters act? I mean, look at a shounen anime. The main character says: "I'm going to save you all, I'm won't let "good" characters die, I will defeat the "evil". Is that realistic? No, definitely not. Fate/stay night is a pretty good example. Shirou says: "I will save everyone, even the "bad" people. I know it's just an ideal, but I don't care". In contrast to this, the shounen character really believe that way, while Shirou knows it better. It's more realistic. You have to be like 6 years old to think like a shounen character and I don't think they are like that. In that regard, Code Geass was like Fate/stay night. They think so for a reason, they act like this for a reason. Honestly, Lelouch's actions are understandable, aren't they? It fits and that makes them realistic, in my opinion. Also, it doesn't matter with genre it is since the environment, or whatever is in this world, has no impact on it. "That most utilize" is good enough in this situation. That argument you're presenting is horribly fragile and really has no weight here. I don't accept your definition because it has no relation to the word "quality" as it's used anywhere that I know of. Seeing as how there are a number of other options available to you in communicating your point, there's no reason to ascribe a new meaning to a word because, so it seems, you feel like it. Graphics in a game are a sign of quality. A customer's personal evaluation of their experience with a company or store is a sign of that business's quality in their customer service. Story and gameplay in a game is a sign of quality. The fact that an anime is "mature" by your oddball definition of "mature" does not make it quality. It makes that anime "mature" by your oddball definition. The anime may be more endearing to you, but you're talking about apples and oranges here. There has to be some kind of less subjective marker or par by which to examine something. It just doesn't work, as a native speaker of the English language. And as for your train wreck of a third paragraph, you seem to like it when traditional morality is called into question, and characters are forced to make more difficult choices than "good = good/bad = bad" or something like that. That's fine, but that's hardly a sign of "realism"...at least now how I understand it, and how I imagine most others understand it. Too much disbelief has to be suspended to consider such anime as realistic period. Robots that roll around on rollerblades and a main character with a magic eye that mind controls people? Sure, it's interesting seeing the characters react to these ridiculously outlandish circumstances and situations, but why does that a character has to make a decision make the show realistic? That's a pretty shoddy standard in my opinion...

So I finished Eureka 7. What the heck happened at the end there? I'm so confused. + Show Spoiler + ![]() So the only two characters of note other than the bad guy who get killed were the two who weren't complete jackasses the entire time (Well, I guess Axel was okay too)? Screw you, Bones. I was previously warned that Renton would be annoying the entire series. However, nobody told me that the kids were even more annoying than he was. I wish Eureka had never saved them. They just don't shut up at all. ![]() Care Bear Stare? -_- ![]() So the Nirvash can talk now? I wish they'd explain some of this stuff. ![]() What was the point of revealing this? So that we can say "oh my god he was there the whole time"? Fuuuuuck. And things were going so well around episode 40

To be fair, BONES is ridiculously bad at tying everything up in the end, cause they always want to make everything an existentialist debate of some sort. Brotherhood worked out because the source material was on the same wavelength as them.

I thought it was great, and am looking forward to more.
