+ Show Spoiler [Bakemonogatari 15] +Dunno if they explained in anime, but afterwards Araragi thought that Shinobu chanced upon him first, and without him noticing, slid into his shadow as to avoid his detection. Basically stemming from them both being vampires and consequently have the ability to manipulate the shadows as well as how now Shinobu is more or less subordinate to him (if you didn't know that part, well, you know now). Don't recall there being much of any classical precedence on the shadows thing though, not too into Western occult

so I'm about to start Angel Beats ep11 and I was wondering
why is Yui in the pre-afterlife purgatory high school world thingy? the way she speaks it's like if she was still alive or something + Show Spoiler [cause of death] +since she was hit by a car and paralyzed...what killed her?

The ability to look at characters and just know roughly what it might mean is nice, so is the fact that there is no effort spent on recognizing kanji, but I don't know if it is such a decisive factor.
In my experience, my Korean-speaking classmates often did the best and looked like they put in the least effort, followed by Chinese-speaking ones, followed by those with no other language backgrounds, with the gaps being pretty small. We did notice some distinctions on the tests, where the Koreans would own up grammar and most vocabs and all of the Chinese speakers but me do great on kanji writing (that reads sad tale of someone who hated writing Chinese and so moved to US), but if we look at kanji reading and definition there is very little difference. With Hangul's use of Chinese characters being pretty rare, I don't really think that Chinese was that big of a dealbreaker. Though I did enjoy a significant edge when it comes to seeing kanjis for the first time in class, but that was purely due to reading more material than others. Going from an Asian language to another Asian language is going to be easier than going from English to an east Asian language. I know of a study (didn't really read it, though) done that apparently pointed to the learning of English by a native Korean speaker to be one of the more difficult second languages to learn. I imagine it's similar the other way around, and I imagine it's also similar for Chinese and Japanese speakers as well. I don't know for sure, but this is just my guess.
I can definitely understand that your Korean-speaking classmates did the best...the languages are so damn similar it surprises me all the time lol.

I've heard people say that, though it never quite made sense to me given how both Korean and Japanese have a writing system that's more or less alphabet based and construct their words more similar to the Western languages. There is the issue of grammar though, which does pretty much work the opposite way across East and West, so maybe that alone is enough to make it easier for us.
Well, umm...have faith folks, some of the most fluent speakers of Chinese and Japanese that I know are white, tis effort I tell you!
Every day I don't get bungaku shoujo OVA 1 I shed a lake's worth of tears, some uploader please pity me.

Well...all languages and their corresponding written forms are completely arbitrary, so they should be looked at at least somewhat independently. The Korean written language is nearly 100% phonetic with a good amount of exceptions, but it's extremely easy to pick up. Japan's primary writing system, which I believe is a hodge podge of different things, but predominantly borrows from Chinese Kanji, is still a lot more symbolic than Korea's much more basic phonetic alphabet (I believe every symbol, aside from having its own meaning, refers to a certain syllabic sound).
The two things that are important here, I think, are word and sentence formation. Beyond that, actual accent would have quite a bit to do with it as well, I think. I think it's definitely fair to say that there are more similarities between most, if not all, dialects of Chinese and Japanese than English and Japanese.

I just watched the last episode of Working, and I was just thinking:
![[image loading]](http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/8154/fffpeepsworking13480pc8.jpg) is the exact opposite of
![[image loading]](http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/9964/1270626341780.jpg)
+ Show Spoiler [Working] +The episode itself was pretty funny. I didn't expect much to come out of that date, and indeed, nothing really changed. ![[image loading]](http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/8154/fffpeepsworking13480pc8.jpg) :D I hope there's a second season.

Yeah, I hope Working!! gets a second season cause nothing really changed except how much Takanashi gets punched lol.
and while I wish AB! would get a 2nd season, the way it ended it'd take an entirely new direction and i'm not sure how that'd work. That show shoulda been 24-26 eps, not 13. fail character development is fail. wtb TK back.

I can't see Angel Beats getting a second season. Like you said, the plot is all wrapped up, and unless something stupid like "they all died again" comes into play, how are they even supposed to get together? Even some sort of Angel Beats After would be difficult to do considering the ending. I'd rather see Key work on some other production, personally. I mean, there's still one unanimated VN...
New chart just got uploaded:

If it helps, my Korean coworkers all say it's easy to pick up Japanese, and encourage me to pick up Korean.

Yeah I know what you mean...I guess at best he could do an OVA or a special episode to fill some of the huge plot holes he left alone but I doubt that's gonna happen.
@ summer chart: holy shit Cat Shit One. been waiting for it for a while.

Hi everybody, I have been recently reading this topic and decided to try "haibane renmei" because of some of the comments here. I watched it and liked it, not the way I usually like anime's but it had a different feel to it. Anyways I decided to ask you for more reccomendations since I'm having a really hard time finding animes worth to watch. I made a list here which took like 1 hour for me to do, there may be few I forgot to add but most of the anime's I watched are here: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/fevax&show=0&order=4 I'm open to any reccomendations you have, thanks!
