If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

What Zaku did you get?

Age-2 Zaku normal.

I just thought of in ZZ when they put a Zaku head on the Zeta gundam, I guess ZZ stands for Zeta Zaku!

How can someone get Age-2 Normal rather than this one:

Let's be honest, if you have the choice you always go for the originial unless it feels really weird for some reason.
I can't watch Simpsons in english because I started watching that when I was a kid in german and I'm so used to the german voices. Pretty much everything else just feels better in english if it's an english production (except for movies with Bruce Willis, his german voice is bad ass).

It's just the same with anime just that the originial language isn't english here. No big deal. I prefer swedish in TV when I'm visiting my relatives there as well. Thought it's like that for everyone and everything.

Even if you don't care as much about that, I'm not sure why you would voluntarily pick bad/mediocre/lifeless/awkward voice acting over the superior alternative. But to each his own I suppose.

Some would argue the Bebop dub, FLCL dub, Black Lagoon dub, and a few Ghibli dubs (and for pure hilarity...Ghost Stories?) are better than the original.

I'm not in particular agreement, but I can see where they're coming from.

Exceptions prove the rule.

Huh? I'm not saying that dubs are better than subs, but you make it sound like all dubs are bad.

And honestly half of Japanese voice actors have really off putting voices, so I don't understand what's with putting down dubs when I can imagine that Japanese voice actors can be just as bad.

It just so happens that one can be ignorant about whether or not their voices are bad.

I'm not saying that all dubs are bad.

Just out of interest, can you name some examples of bad Japanese voice acting?

I don't think understanding has anything to do with it lol. Like others have mentioned, VAs hired for dubs just tend to not be high quality. It's not to say english voice actors couldn't voice anime as well, it's just in general the good ones aren't hired.

When you watch it in Japanese the "bad" VAs tend to be overlooked more because the language barrier covers up for it somewhat. However, when you watch it in your native tongue every single thing you notice.

I think a lot of the time its more a combination of "I saw it in Japanese 1st and for some reason I don't think the English voice fits the character" and "Oh. My. God. THATs how they chose to translate that line?"

Other then that it just seems like Japanese VA tend to take the job more seriously and it seems like they enjoy it more then the english ones because they deliver their lines with more passion.

From what I've heard, while voice acting is actually a thing in Japan, most of the people who end up dubbing your average not-so-good dub are failed actors. Or something.

Seriously, I wonder how it feels to voice act alongside such newbs when you're a top-tier voice actor such as Fujiwara Keiji or Horie Yui.

It would be like Leonardo Dicaprio acting with Michael Cera with Cera in the lead role.

Oh my ears, they hurt just remembering...

List of seiyuu I can recognize 80% of time:

Hayashibara Megumi
Inoue Kikuko
Mizuki Nana
Tamura Yukari
Yukino Setsuki
Saito Chiwa
Tanaka Rie
Nakahara Mai
Sawashiro Miyuki
Sakamoto Maaya
Kuwashima Houko
Horie Yui
Inoue Marina
Koshimizu Ami
Kitamura Eri
Shimizu Ai
Ueda Kana
Itou Shizuka
Nabatame Hitomi
Shiraishi Ryouko
Yukana
Takano Urara
Park Romi
Noto Mamiko
Kawasumi Ayako
Nonaka Ai
Chihara Minori
Kugimiya Rie

In fact it's somewhat a problem with me as I recognize all the role a voice had and it's quite weird sometime, like:
