by Elf, 1996. http://vndb.org/v1377 This review might spoil some minor things though I try to avoid it. Genre: Visual Novel, Interactive Adventure, Sci-Fi, Time/Dimension Travel, Mystery, Drama, Romance, 18+. Description: Takuya Arima is a young student whose father, a historian who has conducted various researches, disappeared recently. During a summer vacation Takuya receives a peculiar package from his missing father, along with a letter containing information about the existence of various parallel worlds. At first Takuya doesn't take it seriously, but soon he realizes that he possesses a device that allows him to travel to alternate dimensions. Is his father alive, after all? If so, where is he? Intro: Art: I don't really like the older anime art style. However, the art in this game is mostly all right. Still, art of the faces of some characters, especially Mio, is just really strange. The bodies are drawn significantly better, even though the women tend to have slightly extreme proportions. There's too much ecchi in my opinion, there's pantyshots at just about every excuse, for example, and plenty of nudity. This hurts the game's credibility quite a bit in my opinion, because it makes it harder to take it seriously which you need to with this kind of a story. The backgrounds are very well drawn though, and this game even has some animation. Some scenes were better than what I see in most VNs made in the past 5 years. I'd probably go with a 8/10 here, slightly forgiving it due to it being 16 years old and managing to do so well with such a small color pallette. Sound: The soundtrack is amazing. The intro track, first of all, is incredible and the atmosphere of it is amazing. There's like a hundred tracks and while playing through the game I didn't find a single actually annoying track. The action tracks are great, horror/mystery tracks, even the love tracks are good. The daily life tracks that I generally hate also were quite good. Even though it's from 1996 and they were quite limited by the machinery, I still really liked the soundtrack. I really believe that the soundtrack itself deserves a 10/10. The sound effects were... pretty good, I guess. Didn't really find a problem with them. Phone rings, bell rings, bangs, clings, what have you. All fit quite well. Still, nothing special. 8/10 I'd say. That's generally what I feel you deserve just for not being annoying. YU-NO later on had a voice acting patch added. The voice acting here is really good, with at least some high-profile actors. Most of the voice acting I liked, even though the main actor's voice could probably be a bit better, and some of the later characters have too high voices. Still, probably... 9/10. Overall, I prioritize soundtrack the most and as it's so good, I'll still give 9.5/10 for the sounds overall. Gameplay: As listed in genres, this is an interactive adventure game. However, that only begins after the prologue, before that it's just linear mashing. Basically, the gameplay is about going to different areas, interacting with the environment and talking to people, collecting items, using the items when needed, and so on. An unique thing in my opinion is the fact that they managed to actually implement an in-game savegame system properly. You have jewels that act as "beacons" that you can save at different points in the game, and then at any point you can "recall" yourself onto the jewel. However, you keep all your items. This means that you can, say, save the game in front of a locked door, play the game, and after finding the key you recall back to it and then you can open the door(this is just an example). You start with 2 jewels and your goal is to collect all 8. You need to have 1 jewel left over to recall to one, so at the start of the game you can only have one "save" active at any time. This means it's really important to try your best to collect jewels. You find them scattered all over the game, in all the routes. There's a few puzzles as well, and I think that they're quite good. Not impossible, but require some creativity. Apart from this, it's just going to the right places, talking to people, and clicking around until something useful happens... I'd say it's 9/10 because even though the clicking around gets annoying, it's still an interesting idea to collect jewels from all over the routes and moving around with the savegames like this. I give major props for incorporating savegames into the story in a sensible way. The existence of a few puzzles is also a decent bonus if one is into that sort of a thing. Characters: http://vndb.org/v1377/chars#chars The main character is... Okay. He's quite perverted and it can become pretty annoying, but still he was... all right, acted properly as the situation called for most of the time and so on. Has some good moments, but has his share of bleh moments as well. Not terrible... But nothing amazing, either. I guess it'll be around 7.5/10. As for the female characters, they were... mostly all right. Eriko was good, Kaori was good in her own way, Kanna was as well. Still, I wouldn't really have the female characters as a good reason to play this game... Maybe 8/10. As for other characters, nothing too significant so 8/10 overall for characters. Story: The story is definitely the main reason to play this game. There's many mystery and horror elements and many shocking moments. Each of the routes were interesting to me, many were very dramatic, there were a lot of surprises and mysteries. Some really good plot twists as well. This was a really "heavy" game so to say, reminding me of Sharin no Kuni because at times there's just so many bad things happening that it was pretty difficult to continue. The writing of the story is genious, there's numerous mysteries and things that will keep one interested until the end. I can't even count the amount of "Are you kidding me?" or "Oh no they didn't" moments I had throughout the game. I was mindfucked quite severely by the end. With this game, I really doubt that one is going to want to stop after just finishing one route, especially considering that the Epiloque is the most interesting part of the game in my opinion. Oh and 10/10 for story of course. Even if there might have been some minor plot holes, this one definitely deserves full score. I would say it's the most complex story for a visual novel that I've read, and also requires quite a bit of thinking to understand properly. There's definitely surprises all over the place and most of them are quite difficult to predict. My overall score is 9.5/10 even though the scores don't add up, simply because I weigh the story the most heavily by far. I would recommend this to anyone with an open mind who's interested in Sci-Fi, Drama or Mystery and even recommend to at least finish the Prologue(perhaps 2 hours) for even those who initially aren't interested in those. There's an English patch available, too.

+ Show Spoiler + Great show so far, and Alexander the great is so damn awesome. It's really a shame fate/night came out first and ruined the ending. This would have really been a great show to root for one of the characters to win, since they all seem pretty even. Not looking forward to Alexander losing/dying ![]()

Which is why when teenage Haruka Amami auditions for something called the Idolmaster Project, she THINKS she's trying out to be a singing idol. Instead, Haruka finds herself at a secret school run by the Mondenkind Agency, living with a group of other girls who have also been selected as candidates to pilot an iDOL - an advanced robot specifically designed to intercept falling chunks of moon rock. Except, the people who run the Mondenkind Agency aren't exactly knights in shining armor. And then there's the question of whether the iDOLs are really JUST robots. Because from almost the first moment, Haruka starts to feel emotions resonating from within the iDOL called Imber.
