After watching the first couple episodes again, I can see it hasn't aged well since I was 10, sadly. It's still enjoyable, but I can start to see some of the pitfalls of it. Still, it was my first Gundam, and I'll like it purely for nostalgia and the sweet Gundam designs.
So, my question is, what are some of the best Gundams to watch? I've seen SEED (but not Destiny), Wing, and G all the way through. Others I've seen parts of, but not enough to know full stories and what not. Recommendations. I hear Turn A, 00, and 008th MS team are good ones.
I'm a bit biased but SEED has rocketed back to the top of my list. Following that would probably be Unicorn (ongoing), 08th, and Turn A. The original was ok I guess but the voice acting has really not aged well at all, neither has the script, which has really irritating stutters and shit.
Its so refreshing to finally know someone else who has SEED as their favorite lol.
Anyway, Gundam 00 is a mixed bag. Season 1 is good, Season 2 is not.
Zeta Gundam and Turn A are both extremely good. Unicorn too, but as said, its not finished. Zeta Gundam is more or less the "favorite" Gundam among Gundam-fans. Turn A Gundam is really good, but it is also very different from virtually every other Gundam, while at the same time being stuff full of references to previous series.
Zeta is a sequel to the original, takes place about 8-9 years after MSG, but still like 9 years before Unicorn. I would highly recommend at least watching the MSG Trilogy before Zeta, since it IS a sequel, rather than a side story. And its alot easier to watch 3 movies than an entire series lol (unless your name is Zergneedsfood).
08th MS Team is good as well. Its another side story, taking place in the same war as the original, and its pretty much about grunts.
THE NEW OP IS FUCKING AWESOME. Now its time to watch the episode
Edit: kk watched the episode. So my question is will Kirika perhaps play a larger role than we previously thought? Did C3 just pull a Rewrite on us? Or is the op just there for the Kirika fanservice?

I loved Wing mainly because of the nostalgia factor, it was my introductory gundam series. I still loved it when I rewatched it a few months back. Same with SEED, SEED was really good, not SEED Destiny. I've been working on the MSG trilogy and was shocked at how much SEED took from MSG after watching the first movie. Still have the other 2 remaining movies and Zeta/ZZ on my to-do list.
What's with people using western name orders for Japanese people here. On the topic of Kitamura Eri though, her performance as Suzutsuki did impress me a fair bit.

If you are reading English translations, just treat it like you would a book. Frankly there are no real differences unless you are actually anal enough to want to listen to every line.
I've always wondered why people would do that.

Definitely read ever17 :D Mindblowing VNs are the best.
Although I personally feel Higurashi is too hardcore for me
How exactly is hardcore defined here, lol. Higurashi actually isn't too overkill in any aspect. Umineko on the other hand had a bit more impressive gore descriptions.
Ecael: and to show our difference, you post the two combat crazies for kajiri kamui kagura I'd link+ Show Spoiler +
Eh well I havent exactly looked into that many VNs but I feel the plot of Higurashi is a good example of a relatively strong horror VN. I guess I meant to define hardcore in this case as fear-invoking. Besides the Higurashi/Umineko VNs, are there any other strong horror (non-eroge) VNs? I'm curious (not sure why)
I don't really think that Higurashi is exactly horror, but that's just me. Other than some old psychological horror type stuff, I don't think people do the genre all that much nowadays though.

I've never seen the original MSG. Do I need to watch the show itself, or will the movie trilogy suffice? Do I need to watch it at all before Zeta?
Where do Zoids fall in the Mecha spectrum? I remember liking it as a kid, but I feel like it might have been terrible, and I'm afraid to ruin my nostalgia and watch again.

I know I've proved not to be the best source of nostalgia-fueled suggestions, but Zoids was awesome. At least NCZ, the first one that was translated.

I saw only the series, but according those who've seen both, the movies should suffice. You should most definitely see 79 before Zeta.
I REALLY love anime, I watched Clannad, Clannad after story.. and after that, a lot more similar animes. But one question guys, why do they make the girls so sexy, often? Just to get more views?^^

Thats one of the things some people like to hate on about SEED. SEED was meant to be sort of a reboot of the Gundam franchise, since prior two SEED, both of the previous 2 didn't sell very well. Someone who hates SEED would say they stole and bastardized 0079, someone who likes SEED would say they reimagined it. Since there are alot of similarities.
Once you get to Zeta, you are going to be like "lol look how much Destiny stole from Zeta lol". And in Destiny's case, what they "stole" was somehow made a ton worse lol.

If you like something, you like it. I don't let other people tell me what I can and cannot like. I'm a shallow person who will generally watch a show if it has an ojou/one of my favourite voice actors in it even if it's not intellectual. Of course, that doesn't mean you should ignore the recommendations of people with good taste either. Just enjoy watching whatever you're watching.

To put it simply: 1) People like moe blob so more people watch the show 2) Merchandising is an important part of making money from a franchise. This could be anything from DVDs, key chains, posters, ecchi dakimakura, etc. 3) People are more willing to buy moe blob merchandise. It's less risky to make a gamble by creating completely radical and hoping that people will like it compared to serving up moe blob shows that follow similar formulas and that you know people will generally lap up anyway. 4) Have I mentioned that moe blob sells?

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. You need pretty thick skin to hang out on /a/ and still actually enjoy anime (or /v/ and gaming). I like my favorites, even if they're hated on. I'm just looking for other opinions for discussion and recommendations to see if there's something I'll like as much or more.
