To be fair, as someone who used to do that, I did it with pretty great accuracy. After you get used to it, kanjis alone can give you a very good idea of what's happening given a writing style that isn't too fucked up.

I just can't care for Lloyd et al as much, I'm really tempted to just look up spoilers, especially given that you mentioned Lixia won't/shouldn't really figure prominently in the future.
Edit: I love the world but Zero/Ao made me realize how much Estelle in particular had grown on me

every time VNs come up in this thread, I get so tempted to start reading some. Maybe for winter break...I'll try one. Maybe.

I've always wondered why people would do that.

Umineko on the other hand had a bit more impressive gore descriptions.

I cant imagine reading that many without being a bit tempted to. When you are reading a book, do you skip everything up until the "interesting" parts? If someone "read" a VN like that, they better include those quotations, since they didn't actually read the whole thing.
Well people do it, wether they are serious readers are not is questionable and besides the point which is why I asked the more serious ones. VN's for alot of people who read untranslated ones can be difficult for when they dont know the language to well and here hence very slow but still want to read them. This is absurdly time consuming aswell. Alot of it can be really pointless banter that contributes very little to the actual story at times and you can get a grip of the character pretty quickly without it. Im sure any experience reader will have had the thought creep up on them in the least. Reading a book and VN is a reasonably different exercise aswell if you want to listen to it. Some people cant read well and just listen to it. I didnt say you do it for everything either just at times there can be moments where you feel like this is taking more time than I need to get out of it. Thanks for the bad analogy though, its not your fault though since I didnt make it clear it was a directed question to people who read alot of them and hence alot of untranslated ones.
I could just rephrase the question as "Ctrl the relatively and clearly uninteresting/irrelevant parts." Ive only read a couple myself and havent done it but I can see if someone is prolific at it, it could happen. Hence the question was reasonable even if you personally deem it an undesirable exercise. Which is good I guess, doing something justice properly you need to read the whole thing obviously.

So, I posted a couple pages back that I really like Gundam Wing, and was called out on it.
After watching the first couple episodes again, I can see it hasn't aged well since I was 10, sadly. It's still enjoyable, but I can start to see some of the pitfalls of it. Still, it was my first Gundam, and I'll like it purely for nostalgia and the sweet Gundam designs.
So, my question is, what are some of the best Gundams to watch? I've seen SEED (but not Destiny), Wing, and G all the way through. Others I've seen parts of, but not enough to know full stories and what not. Recommendations. I hear Turn A, 00, and 008th MS team are good ones.

I would only listen if there wasn't any English translation since my listening is infinitely better than my reading abilities. Or if there was a particular voice I wanted to listen to, but then that would only be limited to that character and I would still skip over the other characters' lines.

I'm a bit biased but SEED has rocketed back to the top of my list. Following that would probably be Unicorn (ongoing), 08th, and Turn A. The original was ok I guess but the voice acting has really not aged well at all, neither has the script, which has really irritating stutters and shit.

Eh well I havent exactly looked into that many VNs but I feel the plot of Higurashi is a good example of a relatively strong horror VN. I guess I meant to define hardcore in this case as fear-invoking. Besides the Higurashi/Umineko VNs, are there any other strong horror (non-eroge) VNs? I'm curious (not sure why)

Continuing what Ecael said, I used to listen to every line, but now I just listen to it if the CV is awesome. Like Kitamura Eri. Damn I'm so high on her right now.
And since it is the in thing to post what games you are reading/playing atm, Atelier Totori is pretty addicting.

It's like going around leveling up my Herbalism and Alchemy skills in WoW, coupled with occasional instances, and I get to play as one of the cutest lolis I've ever seen. Nazuka Kaori does such a great CV for Totori too. And Kitamura Eri is in it too, as well as ADT's sweetheart Makise Kurisu Asami Imai. :3
The game is pretty girly, but I love it.
Also I've been playing Hyperdimension Neptunia.

I like this game too. As an RPG it is pretty generic (so far), but the genius of the game lies in the awesome parodies of other games and games in general.

I hope you dont have a gathering proff on a main char dude :p that would get people kicked out of my guild when I played.

I feel like VNs are fun and awesome but take a lot of time. Like it took me a while to get through Tsukihime. Probably easier to read VNs over breaks like winter break and what not.

The only thing I hate is this time aspect. It's a killjoy. I want more RPG and less time management

Some of her voices are really amazing; I can see why you would get high on her voice Actually, she's one of the reasons I looked forward to C^3. I like her character but the voice seems to be lacking compared to her best roles. That or Saito Chiwa just completely overshadows her in my eyes despite getting like 2 lines an episode. Also, Kurisu definitely made me an Asami Imai fan hehe.
