I think Rukia represents Kubo and this Quincy weirdo represents whole community. Even quotes fit!
"You are kidding, my ability makes you fear everything!" "I am dead!" "??? More nonsense" "No seriously, I freeze EVERYTHING, myself included!" "You continue to spout absurdities!" "No really I'm dead because I'm super cold which makes me hyper fast!" "That..Cannot be..." "Ha! You are dead like me!:D:D"

I feel like this chapter was written in 5 minutes.

On toilet paper. Before it was promptly used.

The amount of logic is overwhelming

"SWOOOSH I don't fear you do you fear me now that I'm dead?"
"I'm a frozen pizza in a refrigirator BANG"
"BOOM My sword doesn't even make sense anymore RATATATATA"
LOL nicely summed up what i had in mind.
On a serious note, my concern is that when your temperature dropped that low...how the hell can she still see anything (just ignore all other organs for the moment caused' only eyes are directly exposed to the air).

Now that I think about it, when Sodde no Shirayuki was walking around in the Zunpukuto spirit arc she would touch stuff and it would freeze... so I don't think this power is as ass-pulled as I originally thought...
What I'm coming to realise is that there is a difference in the ability and power of the zunpukuto spirit and the wielders maturity, ability and knowledge of how to manifest those abilities and that power. However, that does break the concept that the shinigami imprints their soul on an asauchi.... meaning, the imprint is smarter than the shinigami creating that imprint... doesn't make sense... The only way this would make sense is if there were several Zunpukuto spirits floating around and the spirit chose the Shinigami with which he would build a partnership. Perhaps we have an error in translation here... because I rememember in one of the movies Toshiro and some other dude had the same zunpukuto and they said one of them would have to give up their sword because two people are not allowed to wield the same zunpukuto... and then Kyoraky kept going on about how Toshiro has a unique sword that appears once in a decade. So, which is it... are zunpukuto free spirits that chose their opponents and hence understand all their abilities from having honed them with their previous shinigami... OR are zunpukuto an imprint of the shinigami's soul and if so why do they know more about the shinigami's power than the shinigami himself?
Anyways, when's Zaraki fighting again? Can't ichigo just arrive already...

The whole logic of her sword I can sort of understand if I just agree that she trained herself to be able to withstand her sword's power. Her reishi acts like a sort shield, pretty much. What I don't get is where the dances are. Previously, all her powers were dances. Now, it's as if her sword is really different than how it used to be. Makes sense for Renji, but don't see any explanation for her.

My brain was itching right till I thought of this:
+ Show Spoiler +
Good metaphor for Bleach at this point. BTW guys, watch Top Gear.

The dances are just a way Rukkia previously controlled her sword and manifested it's powers. There are previous instances where, like for example Yumichika, zunpukuto respond and manifest different powers based on their wielders instruction. The dances may not be gone, she may have just discoevered another way, a more complete way, to manifest her sword's power. She couldn't do this before because she didn't have the training or the benefit of Ichibei telling her everything as opposed to her going through a process of self discovery and learning...
I don't think it's the fact that you CAN'T explain what Kubo does.. I think it's the way he tells the story and the completely unrefined way in which he tells it. The guy seriously needs to take some courses in story telling. However, most people think that NOT refining things is a common device to allow for "plot insertion" in the future... so, perhaps Kubo never wants to fullly explain because he wants to give himself leeway and ability to change things in future chapters... Perhaps japs are used to this way of story telling but I think it's quite clear the rest of the world doesn't agree with it. I think that's where our frustration comes from... the way Kubo is telling the story.

opposed to her going through a process of self discovery and learning...
you mean opposed to her actual sword going "hey heres how to use my power"

if you follow Kubo's argument... the Zunpukuto is all knowing and reveals power to the shinigami through constant communication and relationship building. Also, a zunpukuto may deem the shinigami unworthy of certain aspects of it's power and will chose to mislead its wielder.
The question still remains, who is the master... is the Zunpukuto an imprint of the wielders soul and thus grows in unison with the wileder (which is what has been explained) or is the Zunpukuto somehow a complete spirit chosing to partner with a Shinigami choosing to reveal it's power and share information as and when it deems the wielder to be worthy.. I'm still not clear on this.

when did rukia get so stronk
|
Maybe when the wielder of a sword makes the imprint, his personality splits and one half becomes part of the sword. Thus the sword spirit finding very quickly what he can do and then deciding whether or not to tell his wielder.
And I don't think japanese people(not "japs", in which decade were you born) especially like this kind of story telling either. I have no numbers on hand but its popularity has been declining for a long time. Sadly this is still enough to be Kubo's meal ticket.

As ridiculous as it was, you have to admit Rukia was pretty badass ... lets just hope her badassness doesn't get blown away in a second again by the next opponent who shows up (finger-fire-dude?).

It's not something new as a narrative device, especially when it comes to comedic works. But what sets Rukia's case apart is that it's trying to be scientific about it, and "explain" that her being dead also makes her fearless. Had she just said she was temporarily undead, I might have kept my suspension of disbelief active. But just technically dead, and still conscious/sentient/moving around? Fuck that.

I actually like this villain a lot, the design is very nice

Figures Rukia couldn't actually defeat anybody without getting hurt.
