You can't develop a character all of a sudden who has been completely underdeveloped until this point and expect people to be okay with it. I mean seriously, that's pretty basic. It takes a long time to become invested in a character, and when previously all they did was: get beaten with one punch and be absent in the fighting at Karakura (or whatever the town was called), it's not likely that we'll care. The whole chapter could have been done a lot more quickly. Just end it at "he gave me this scar with his bankai", emerge from the attack and slash him, saying "his bankai isn't that weak!" Then the chapter could have covered more, like Ichigo's state, Urahara's state, the state of the other captains, etc. especially since all the character development is being done after said person was killed OFF PANEL

You could give more credit to Ichigo. Besides its not like he was going to release his bankai and have an epic battle. He was holding back as per the manga.

Give credit to Ichigo? He struggled oh so much to take down Byakuya but destroy this guy that easily? You can't talk about holding back as well, he used his shikai which is, even though it's not a bankai, is supposed to be fairly powerful on someone said to be this strong.
I'm pretty sure Kubo wasn't even planning to develop that character back then and the way he's doing it now makes no sense.

So flash backs are annoying to me for that reason more than the content. yes they age, we saw Byakuya grow up and Genryussai grow old no souls cant die of old age, Genryuusai is way too old for it to be feasible for souls to die from old age yes they can have kids Byakuya was born in the SS since they can have kids they have some form of sex
And yes they eat. Eventhough they cant die from hunger, they can still get hungry and can taste. (it was explained in the rukia/renji flashback, if im not mistaken)

They can die of old age, and are then reincarnated in the real world. Powerfull souls, like Shinigami, age more slowly, and the most powerfull ones can get very, VERY OLD.
They only need to eat to replenish spiritual energy, so most people never eat.

so did the old man punched or slashed him? Can't really tell..

I think he just slashed his sword to throw a pretty big fire wave at him. No physical contact.

+ Show Spoiler +Since I see an intact skull with no face in the final frame, I think its safe to the Quincy is burned to a crisp.

I actually liked the back story this week. It was quite touching, sad that we didn't get to see more out of Sasikabe or whatever his name was before he died.

Holy shit middle-aged cap-commander looks funny
Interesting chapter I guess.

the dude is supposed to be strong enough to put a freaking scar on the most powerful person in the manga (Aizen himself said in a straight fight he would probably lose thats why he made that special Arrancar) theres no possible way he should be unable to dodge Ichigos blow or at least take more then one freaking hit
and where was he while the Aizen was allkilling everyone and the CC was in huge trouble? hows he supposed to be his right arm if hes watching the fight and not actually participating? why didnt he kill the Extinquir before he got close to the CC?
why the fuck was he even outside the barrier watching it anyway? if he has such a strong bankai why isnt he in there fighting instead of palying house? he even ahd a lightning type bankai when theres a water type arrancar have Hinamori watch the barrier, what are they even worried about? the Arrancars breaking into the Barrier? they planned on that
and why is his Shikai completely unrelated to his bankai? every bankai weve seen is jsut a suped up version of the Shikai except for his crappy rapier which had nothing to do with lightning at all

read all 504 manga chapters this week.... man, i'm glad i did. awesome manga so far!
|
first good chapter in a long while, hope to see more of cc
|
Normally I like the whole chapter set up where the enemy is supposed to be incredibly strong then the hero turns out to be a complete badass and defeats the other guy like nothing (even if it's pretty cheesy). But it feels like Bleach pulls this shit all the time
|
Wait did the Commander Captain release his Bankai? I admittedly stopped reading forever ago but that'd be pretty awesome
|
CC has not released Bankai yet because + Show Spoiler + the Quincy can steal the Bankai's

Something is very wrong with you, but well done sir.
This is probably worth cookies somewhere... or a medal... or something. Physical copies, or online/torrent/etc?

Who knows right maybe we hate it so much because we've been reading shit chapters week by week, but if we read it all at once perhaps we'd enjoy it more.

Oh, I'm not one to criticize preference. Too subjective to complain about. Particularly when it is something we've done ourselves, it would be incredibly hypocritical... I'm just trying to imagine the volume of panels and text and images this man has looked at in 1 week.
Could have been 504 chapters of anything really. Hell, I'm realizing as I type this that it is something I haven't even done myself. Two or three years ago a friend of mine convinced me to try watching an anime, and suggested Bleach. I watched every episode to date in about a weeks time, then found where it left off in the manga, and read up to the current chapter.
My only complaints about Bleach are that it suffers greatly from lack of character deaths (which really all of the ongoing manga/anime stories do) and variable levels of consistency/logic/quality. It doesn't make it bad, just easy to complain about. The second you stop enjoying any work of media, be it a book, game, show, movie, etc. I think you might as well ditch it. You aren't going to be getting extra credit, or a gold star upon completion. For a lot of people, particularly in online forums like this one, complaining about how bad it is becomes a huge part of the enjoyment. (Which is also fine!)
