Castaway on the Moon: 94/100
Really good movie. I thought both leads were really great, and the story was simple yet had a kind of depth that I really appreciated. The girl was a cutie, even with the weird scar, and I really liked the end. Definitely worth a watch if you're not a curmudgeon.
Welcome to Dongmakgol: 85/100
Decent. Started off better and lost a bit of it's luster. I liked the American actor a lot, and the High Comrade and Second Lt. Pyo were really good. Had a kind of magic to it that I definitely appreciated, but still felt a bit forced in the end.
Doomsday Book: 93/100
Very interesting. Three stories were all well written and directed, and especially the second story, with the robot, was really intellectually satisfying. Nothing too complex or deep, but just a genuinely interesting moral question with a satisfying answer. Doona Bae is awesome, but I wish she had been in it more, lol.

What's the difference between a 93 and a 94? How did you get that number? What was the factor that you said "no this gets one less"?

The Edge 1997 - Excellent film with special emphasis on contrasting rationality vs fear and whim. If you liked "The Grey" then you will love The Edge.

Xmen: First Class 5/10 and X-men origins: Wolverine 3/10
haha holy shit these were bad. Thought I'd give them a chance since I enjoyed X-men 1 and 2 when they first came out. Not entirely sure why Professor Xavier is standing when he's greeting the escaped mutants at the end of Origins. Thought he was paralyzed at the end of First Class? Also, Gambit was not as badass as he was in the cartoon.

And considering the film that scored a 94 is "really good" and the 85 is only "decent", I wonder what the range between 0-85 is supposed to be.

75 would be a C, which is mediocre. anything below 70 is starting to be bad.

The movies I have watched recently which stands out for good or for bad. Max rating is 5.
Moonrise Kingdom 4.5
Well this is a colorfull, sugarcoated and overly sweet movie if I ever saw one right to the point where it is almost too much. Almost, but it isnt too much. It somehow works really well and is just a really nice enjoyable movie to watch.
Silver Linings Playbook 5.0
I dont like romantic films and I really hate romantic comedies so I was pleasently surprised by Silver Linings Playbook. The story and the plot is nothing out of the ordinary except for most of the charecters being somewhat crazy or obsessive. And that is what makes the movie so interesting. The charecters are so well written and the actors are just amazing. The reason I actually bothered watching it in the first place was the 4 oscar nominations for the actors alone and those nominations are well deserved. If you like me despise this type of movie, go watch it anyway and be pleasently surprised.
Looper 4.0
I dont like timetravel movies, especially if they take themselves too seriously and try to make sence. Looper makes a clear statement; sure timetravel doesnt make sence and to hell with that, enjoy the damned movie! It is a medium paced action/sci-fi flick with a nice story that works really well. It is entertaining all the way through with a couple awesome scenes and twists.
End of Watch 3.5
The movie sets a nice pace with a good amount of action and a raw feeling to it. The violence and fighting scenes are intense and very well done. The acting and story is good even though it never really stands out, it is enjoyable and worth to watch, especially if you are into this kind of movies.
The hobbit 2.0
If you liked Lord of The Rings you are going to like The Hobbit as well. I did not like LoTR so not surprisingly I was not entertained much by the The Hobbit. I understand where the producers are comming from when they make these movies. They have the widest appeal possible to aim at every possible agegroup and background so naturaly it comes out a bit bland to someone who wants a bit more then all around average from a movie.
Dredd 3.5
Dredd is what you expect it to be and a bit more. What you'd expect is a mediocre story, mediocre acting, some nice action shots and a shitton of cliches. You get that, except that it is better then the average movie of this type. While nothing really stands out as particularly spectacular it is overall wellmade and works well. The movie is entertaining and perfect for when you just want to be entertained and not have to delve to deep into it to enjoy. I watched it in a great hangover and enjoyed it all the way through.

A Fistful of Dollars (1964) - 8.3/10

Pretty cool stuff. I preferred Yojimbo, though.
Shepard & Dark (2012) - 6.0/10
![[image loading]](http://media.tiff.net/contents/stills/sheparddark_01.jpg)
A fairly uninteresting documentary. The best part was when one of the old men who didn't know what a flash drive or a flat screen TV was watched Desperate Housewives.
For a Few Dollars More (1965) - 8.5/10

Some parts of this made no sense, but it has Clint Eastwood looking cool and saying stuff and shooting people, so who really cares?

Yeah, I always wonder why some people rate so precise. It seems kinda silly to me. someone's opinion of a single film is already subject to so many stimuli, it seems a little ridiculous to try and be that dead on, like you were able to judge the merit of a movie down to the 1/100th of scale in one sitting. maybe if the popcorn someone was eating, while watching the film, had a little more salt on it, they would have a more comfortable viewing experience, leading them to a better "vibe" about the movie and their rating would bump from a 75/100 to a 77/100.
Another thing that bugs me is how meaningless all these rating are in the wide context of this thread. One person's "7" may be another person's "4". It seems like a lot of people just use such a small chunk of the 1-10 scale, only ever ranging between a 6-10.
Regardless, I'm probably going to keep assigning my ratings, however meaningless they be, because I like how it makes me think about the movie ;p

Yea, those were terrible. Xmen First Class probably rates as one of the worst movies I have seen in a theater
Anyways, just watched Silver Lining Playbook with my family.

Good acting and good script. I usually enjoy watching movies about people with mental obstacles. It was neat to see how all the different characters in the movie had their own mental quirks, and it was fun to see them all tie together. The first half of the movie was much stronger than the second half in my opinion. Though the climax was much better than I anticipated based on the build up.
8 /10 The movie was a well mixed variety of comedy, drama and romance.

Jiro's dreams of sushi: worth-watching documentary for those who loves food, japan & ofc sushi in particular. Although I would prefer better directing, story-telling and characters' insight, theres not much to expect from a documentary 7.8/10
Argo: a somewhat boring first half turns into a breath-taking thriller. It's really good, but not Oscar-good 7.5/10
