To be fair it's not that easy to find an amazing movie each year when you limit yourself as much as the Academy does.

You are totally right.

Fully agree. I didn't even watch any awards shows this year, and doubt I will next year. Shame they don't properly equate the box number value with the awards--not saying the most viewed should always win- but it should play a larger part imho.

Shawshank Redemption Not a bad movie. A guy innocent of his crimes goes to prison and improves the lives of everyone there. I'm sure most of you have seen it. It's an old film so I avoided seeing it on that pretense, but it's really not that bad.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/x97VZMH.jpg) Pirates of Silicon Valley This is a movie about how Apple and Microsoft first got started and the start of the "rivalry" between Jobs and Gates. I didn't know that at one point Apple was larger than Microsoft.
Many of the things in the movie are false so I don't know what to believe. Jobs forms a cult out of his company and his employees become servants to the cult. Jobs steals the idea of graphical UI from Xerox when Xerox CEO's laugh at it. I thought this scene was golden. The board room members passed a "mouse" around the table until the head of the board looked at it and laughed. Then everyone else in the board laughed as if they were given permission to. Gates is an overcompetitive kid who hates Jobs after Jobs shrugs him off at a tech expo. Gates works hard to steal Job's work to create Windows, all the while assuring Jobs that he is not a threat.
In Gate's AMA though, he stated that his character portrayal was spot on, but that Apple and Microsoft weren't rivals and in fact did work together on the macintosh so this part of the movie may have been false. Also Gates and Jobs spent some time together when Jobs was on his deathbed so I'm not sure if they hated each other like the movie says and they got over it, or the movie was too dramatic.
It's like Social Network, only made years before SN. It's a nice look at a fictional Steve and Bill instead of what we normally have seen: Jobs and Gates.

Chasing Mavericks + Show Spoiler +http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1629757/
The surfing movie/biography of Jay Moriarty.
Watched it twice over the weekend. Really enjoyed it. A film, that can help give you some perspective on life imo. If nothing else its a very well done surf movie, but there is a lot more to it. Thought the movie was hugely underrated and didnt get enough attention.

I watched it this weekend and enjoyed it a lot. One of the better movies I have seen in a while.

Beneath Hill 60
Was really good. There aren't all that many movies about first World War (as opposed to second) and it's harder still to find something really good among them. This one was pretty exceptional, it was nicely made, captivating and going into the less-known aspect of trench warfare - tunneling.

I was so fucking pissed when Brave beat out Wreck it Ralph.
Wreck it Ralph was so much more of a better movie than Brave.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0882977/ Saw Snitch over the weekend. Surprisingly good. Surprisingly not as much of an action flick as you would imagine, actually it had very little action until later in the movie. It seems The Rock is trying to break free from typecasting a bit. There is a scene somewhat early on in the movie where I was like, "wait... what? Did that just happen to The Rock?"
7/10

The Room
This is the greatest trainwreck of a movie I have ever seen. Oh my God. So bad, it is enjoyable. I mean this is the worst movie ever. But I wanna see it again.

I watched There Will be Blood yesterday and WOW DDL just amazed me. I think that's the best acting I have ever seen. It was almost perfect! Other than the fact of the awesome acting which I think makes 70% of this movie, the movie was great and really interesting add to that the cinematography of this movie and you get a really great movie. After this movie I'll definitely watch the movies that DDL played in and the writers other movies. I saw Magnolia and it was really awesome and one of the few several interrelated stories movie that I really loved and Boogie Nights is in my watching list for quite some time now. 9.2/10.
