Really good comedy, and a great film overall. Excellent performance by Hiroshi Watanabe; his dry humour delivery steals the show. The movie itself is half in Japanese (with subtitles), and the other half in English.
Wow, wow, wow. I just saw The Name of the Rose with Sean Connery. About a pair of Franciscan monks arrive at an abbey where monks keep on getting bumped off. Part medieval religious film (Franciscans vs Papal envoys is rather interesting), and part mystery come Sherlock Holmes. But does Ron Perlman play anything other than unlovely looking 'simple' man? Really enjoyed this film.
Also saw Black Death with Sean Bean. It was interesting although a little more nihilistic than Rose. I quite liked Sean's "Vengeance is mine" bit. But as far as stumbling upon hidden villages, I think I prefer The Last Valley with Michael Caine and Omar Sharif.
I wish I could figure out this one film that I watched when I was quite a bit younger. I only saw the beginning and I have no idea whether it was any good, but it's rather maddening not knowing what it is called. (Especially since I've figured out so many other films that have stuck with me from childhood that I later rediscovered.)
It's a film during the sailing age and early on there's a murder (pistol) and the murderer I believe ends up impersonating the fellow because he winds up on the ship, possibly as second command. There's some boy as the main character and the old bearded captain dies while at sea- possibly poisoned. I had thought it might be an adaptation of Stephen's Kidnapped, but I rather think not now. It certainly isn't any of the Mutiny on the Bounty, although I had a feeling the crew was going to turn mutinous. Does this at all sound familiar?

I highly recommend the book if you haven't read it already, it is a rather different but wholly satisfying experience when compared to the movie. Umberto Eco is a literary magician.
Fun movie. It gets a lot of flack for some reason, "worst Pixar movie" etc., but I thought it was great. Granted I don't exactly have a ranking of their movies or anything. Just thought it was a pretty fun movie ^^ good for kids and whatnot too. Thought I got tired of coming-of-age works and the ilk, but apparently not.

8.5/10
I think Brave is probably the worst Pixar movie ever, and that's only really comparing it to other Pixar movies. If you compare it to a normal movie it's still amazing. Cars is excellent.

It's mostly due to self-selection bias I think. People mostly watch movies they think they will like. If you forced me to watch every movie that comes out, I'm pretty sure I would be handing out many, many (probably a majority) below average numbers. But I mostly watch stuff I think I'll like, and very often I'm right and I do like it, so 7 or so ends up being the average.
The last movie I watched was The Dark Knight Rises. It was really good, but I just didn't like it as much as The Dark Knight. Bane is just not as good of a villain as the Joker in my opinion, which took a lot away from the movie for me. Spoilers: + Show Spoiler +
One thing I hated about the ending of The Dark Knight Rises: Unless the flying batmoblie thing could fly at like 10x the speed of sound, the city would still have to be evacuated due to radiation...
Watched a German film called Hell last night - Earth is about twenty years into the future where solar flares have raised the temperature by ten degrees, basically making it impossible to be outside for any real length of time and killing the majority of people through drought and crop failures. Pretty cool survival-horror/thriller.
